How many towels do you own?

Family of four, (2 adults, one 4 yo and one baby) we must have about 15 towels. I am endlessly washing towels. They seem to be constantly piled up. I’m so tempted to throw them all away and just keep 1 for each person.

also, how often do you use your towel before washing? I will use the same towel for a few days. DH takes a new one for every fucking shower!!!

We have one each in a different colour. And then a few spares for swimming, guests etc.

SheWoreYellow · 13/09/2022 19:18

Oh and I wash them about once a week.

BIWI · 13/09/2022 19:19

Does your DH do the washing? If so, I'd leave him to get on with it. If he leaves it to you, I'd be handing him his towel back and telling him he can use it for the rest of the week!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/09/2022 19:20

About 20ish, I scoop up the ones in the bathroom every 3 days and put them through the wash.

greenacrylicpaint · 13/09/2022 19:21

about 30 handtowels that we use for most things.

about 10 guest towels (double the size of a flannel)

2 bath sheets (that we never use)

5 microfibre towels (one each) for swimming/beach.

sofiasurfer · 13/09/2022 19:22

2 bath towels and 2 hand towels each for 4 of us plus a couple of old spares. I wash then every day.

declutteringmymind · 13/09/2022 19:23

2 per person plus surfing types for swimming and water activities. We have one beach towel each and 4 guest towels. They are used for these purposes only and don't tend to get mixed up.

It's a revelation when you start rationalising things. Eg 2 sets of bedding for each bed, kept in those bedrooms, 1 each of a type of shoe or coat etc.

Rutland2022 · 13/09/2022 19:24

We have 4 sets of adult towels plus a few odd ones. A set has 2 bath sheets and 2 hand.
I also have about 5 hooded towels for DD. We are me, DH and DD.

Our bath towels get changed weekly usually, hand towels more often. We have kitchen ones too that get changed every couple of days.

I usually only wash one load a week.

woodhill · 13/09/2022 19:25

I have so many towels, washed weekly

TheGoodEnoughWife · 13/09/2022 19:27

One bath sheet and one hand towel each, in our own colours. Washed and hung back up same day every 1-2weeks.

Few hand towels for downstairs toilet.

Don't see the need for more than one bath sheet each considering I can get them clean and dry in a few hours.

... about 11 sets :)

2 bathsheets and 2 hand towels per person who lives in the house. Plus 2 handtowels each for the kitchen and other bathrooms. Plus enough spare towels for about 4 or 5 guests (DH's family tend to visit en masse). Plus a dark coloured swimming towel each, plus hamman towels for camping/holidays. Bloody hell we have a lot of towels.

I wash DH's towels and my swimming towel once a week (I swim 5x a week). Kids towels plus my bathsheet once every 2 weeks. Swimming towels of kids sporadically depending on how often they swim each week. Hand towels from bathrooms and kitchen every 2 days (I have a 10yo boy, he looks at a towel and it's smeared with mud). Guest towels after the guest leave, hamman towels after they are used so only a few times ayear.

olympicsrock · 13/09/2022 19:29

Bath towels and hand towels washed weekly. Tea towels every 2 days.
DH needs to stop taking a clean towel every day ridiculous!

Uptowntwirl · 13/09/2022 19:31

I was actually thinking about getting separate storage for our towels today they all just like up in the conservatory as there's no room in the bathroom. It drive me nuts. Must have about 20 of varying shapes and sizes, none match it's like a jumble sale.

Uptowntwirl · 13/09/2022 19:33

In terms of washing after every use and hand towels probably every few days up to a week depending how lazy we are being. I'm going to cut back on washing the main ones this winter as determined not to use tumble dryer unless necessary.

Cantbelieveit12 · 13/09/2022 19:33

Too many towels in my house. It's a source of definite friction. Two teenage girls who shower and wash their hair daily. That requires two bath towels and two hand towels and a towel to stand on. DH showers twice a day, works in construction so he will use a bath towel. Nobody hangs them up properly so they can dry. I wash them everyday, at least 7 towels. Its a nightmare.

ScarletWitchM · 13/09/2022 19:33

We had lots of old random towels so invested in a set in different colours for each person (we are 2 adults and 2 teens) and bought a guest set as well - bath sheet, hand towel and flannel. Doesn’t reduce the washing but stops everyone taking a different towel every time

Randomword6 · 13/09/2022 19:39

I started hiding most of our towels when I realised they were only used once. Now there are about about 2 per person and they get more use. I live with 4 adults, by the way!

summergone · 13/09/2022 19:39

Same as you op , too many and can't keep track I took about 5 a while ago and put them in a cupboard haven't missed them at all

ShinyPikachu · 13/09/2022 19:47

More than I ever see in the washing pile. They seem to vanish forever as soon as a teenager uses them.

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 19:52
