How many towels do you own?

Deptofdebt · 13/09/2022 19:17

Family of four, (2 adults, one 4 yo and one baby) we must have about 15 towels. I am endlessly washing towels. They seem to be constantly piled up. I’m so tempted to throw them all away and just keep 1 for each person.

also, how often do you use your towel before washing? I will use the same towel for a few days. DH takes a new one for every fucking shower!!!

Towels are changed weekly

LibertyLily · 13/09/2022 20:22

Two adults.
Two dogs.
About 40 towels of various types/sizes.
Changed weekly or sooner if visibly dirty.

takingmytimeonmyride · 13/09/2022 20:24

So many! I gave some old ones away to a cat rescue as I'd bought new huge fluffy bath sheets for all of us. But we still seem to have tons, they keep appearing!

So a bath sheet each, some hand towels, a couple of old ones for hair dye/spillages, some microfibre ones for holidays. Theres six of us so that's quite a lot.

And then all the millions of others! I will donate again and see if more appear like magic!

Notplayingball · 13/09/2022 20:25

Once a week they are washed. Have loads in my upstairs cupboard.

elm26 · 13/09/2022 20:26

2 towels each, a thick one and a thinner one.

A flannel each.

4 hand towels for the bathrooms.

4 guest towels in case we have anyone to stay

About 6 old colourful towels that sit at the back of the airing cupboard for things like swimming or beach.

We use the towels all week and they get washed and dried on a Sunday. You're clean when you get out of the shower, dry off and hang it up so it doesn't smell and it's fine.

GOODCAT · 13/09/2022 20:27

Only two of us and have seven bathroom towels. One is for me for swimming. Then use one large and one small a week, then they go in the wash and the two get switched in while they dry. The other two get brought out when we have guests. I had a massive cull as we kept getting towels as Christmas presents!

We must have about 30 tea towels though and they go in one big wash together once the first 29 have been used.

2x bathsheet and hand towel for the four of us
Beach towel for each of us
Microfibre towel for each of us
4 guest sets of bath sheet & hand towel
2 hand towels for each of the bathrooms.

Bananalanacake · 13/09/2022 20:38

DH showers every morning and uses a bath sheet, they are bigger than the bottom sheet on a single bed, no way am I washing them after one use, all bath towells get used for at least 10 days before they need a wash, mine and our 2 DC, but we have smaller towels. Complete waste of energy to wash after one use. I'm hoping the increase in electricity bills will make people think twice about washing every thing after one use.

We each have a bath towel on the go and I wash them weekly.
Downstairs loo hand towel and kitchen towel are usually washed twice a week.
I have about 8/10 big towels on the go all at least 15 years old , mostly a bit stiff and a terrific mixture of colours and makes.

lljkk · 13/09/2022 20:56

About 60 but we only use about 8 & only wash them about once every 2 months.

Penguinfeather781 · 13/09/2022 20:58

At least 30 I expect if you include a swimming towel each. Of various sizes, vintages and colours - people take which ever one they want from the airing cupboard, I don’t colour coordinate or allocate to particular people. Many of them I inherited from my Grandparents who had vast numbers of unused “fancy guest” towels it seemed a shame to waste.

There’s absolutely no way I’m washing towels after one use - they’re used on clean bodies, I expect them to last a couple of weeks or so. Exception for hand towels in kitchen and downstairs loo which get done every few days as they’re well used and by multiple people.

SomethingFast · 13/09/2022 21:01

I hate to think how many, rough guess maybe 50? Really should throw away the tatty ones though.
They are washed once a week generally.

Annoyed200722 · 13/09/2022 21:03

2 adults, 2 children here.
6 bath sheets
4 mid size towels
4 hand towels for bathroom
2 hand towels for cloakroom

(2 big swim towels and 2 quick dry camping towels)

probably do a towel wash about every 5 days

MaryJoLisa · 13/09/2022 21:06

Loads. Me and DD have a bath sheet and bath towel (for hair) each. Washed weekly. 3 hand towels. 6 beach towels. 3 baby towels with hoods (DD is 16). 3 random, very elderly, bath sheets I use on the windowsill because my window leaks. One microfibre one I use for the gym. Last went in 2017. 2 hand towels I put in the cat baskets for vet trips so the spoilt ones have a comfortable ride. 2 guest bath towels and hand towels. 24. Don't think I've bought a towel in over a decade and some I had at uni 30 years ago.

Yes, I can't believe people wash a towel after one use, one cos it's unnecessary but mainly the environment! Crazy!

Littleguggi · 13/09/2022 21:14

Family of 4
3 large bath sheets
2 bath towels
2 hooded bath towels for the kids
8 hand towels
A million tea towels!

Atm it's only me and my boyfriend. We have 6 big towels & I think 5 small towels.

We use ours twice before they're washed. I tend to get down to the last 2 towels then I'll wash them so they're ready when the last 2 are ready for washing :)

Boxowine · 13/09/2022 21:22

I have ten bath towels and twelve hand towels for four people. Hand towels are changed every day, bath towels are used no more than twice and they all get washed once a week in their own load. They go on the line. They are all bamboo fiber and dry quickly but at the same time are absorbent and don't need fabric softener.

I got rid of all of my extra towels and sheets during Covid. I find it's much easier to have fewer of these types of things than to have "extras."

emmathedilemma · 13/09/2022 21:23

I’m genuinely gobsmacked by people washing them daily and I guess those who said they can wash them be back in use quickly are using the tumble dryer? If nothing else, maybe energy price rises will do something to help the environment 🙄
