The reviews aren't great but it's reasonably priced
Anyone stayed ? Or live in Manchester and know the area?
It's on Portland street

Britannia are consistently rated the worst hotel chain in the UK, year on year. So I wouldn't go there, tbh.

Runningincircles · 08/09/2022 16:28

I stayed in the Britannia Hotel in Folkestone. I would never ever stay in another Britannia Hotel ever again. It was absolutely disgusting. I seriously considered sleeping on the car instead.

Nospringchickendipper · 08/09/2022 16:29

I wouldn’t stay in this hotel it is frequently in the Manchester Evening News about things that have happened there.
Mainly drugs and violence related

lots, and none of them have many favourable things to say about it! www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187069-d191562-Reviews-Britannia_Manchester_Hotel-Manchester_Greater_Manchester_England.html
It's not reasonably priced, it's cheap and that should ring alarm bells! There's plenty of Premier Inns nearby which should be a safe bet.

titbumwillypoo · 08/09/2022 16:31

We stayed there, check in took over an hour and the bar wasn't open, but as somewhere cheap to sleep it was fine. We payed extra for a window, but wouldn't bother next time as it was a view of an alley.

This. There are plenty of other hotels in Manchester. Try somewhere like Jury's Inn or Premier Inn - not very exciting but ok.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 08/09/2022 16:31

I stayed in the one in Nottingham. It was a long time ago but it was really basic facilities and not worth the price I paid.

Movinghouseatlast · 08/09/2022 16:32

It's pretty bad but it's cheap. Quite grand inside but very, very faded. Eg carpets are very old, the room I stayed in a few years ago was probably last done up in the 70's. It's a great location right in the centre and a beautiful old building.

When I was a teenager I used to go to the nightclub there, and it was down at heel even then!

Which hotel, out of interest?

carriedaway · 08/09/2022 16:32

Try hotel Brooklyn, basic but stylish. they often have deals on and the rooms are really nice

EL8888 · 08/09/2022 16:33

It’s scummy apparently. Someone l know described it as a glorified knocking shop

mynewname25 · 08/09/2022 16:33

i booked it 7yrs ago, checked in and then checked out 30 mins later.

room was filthy and stunk if weed.

bar and restaurant were closed.

it was awful, however that was 7 yrs ago so it might have improved

Cas112 · 08/09/2022 16:33

I wouldn't bother

It literally gets compared to hotel Cecil

I did 15 years ago.

It was like the hotel from the Shining. I vaguely remember having to climb over the toilet to get into the bath.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 08/09/2022 16:35

Desperate place. Choose anywhere else in Manchester. Except Sashas. Which is also Britannia but even worse.

RiftGibbon · 08/09/2022 16:37

About 30 years ago. It was perfectly adeqate at the time.

blumes · 08/09/2022 16:37

Yes years ago on a work trip one of the PA's booked for me & a colleague: Never again.
Carpet was threadbare and pulled up in the corners. The window was fake so no natural light in the room and the bulbs didn't work so only had the bathroom light or the telly.
Was really noisy during the night with drunk people walking past the room. I was terrified the door lock wasn't working properly. Colleagues room just as bad.
Wasn't the PA's fault but we flagged it with her to never put anyone up there again! I don't think we even stayed for breakfast.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/09/2022 17:18

Stayed in the Stockport one-shithole.

AmbushedByCake1 · 08/09/2022 17:24

The one in Birmingham looks like a crack house.

YesitsBess · 08/09/2022 17:29

Brittany’s is owned by the parent company that owns Pontins. Make of that what you will.

Having said that, the one in Canary Wharf is a time warped delight and I love it!

MercurialMonday · 08/09/2022 17:31

Decade ago we had some family stay there on visit- next visit was ibis hotel which was apparently better experience.

yoshiblue · 08/09/2022 17:31

It's a shithole! No!!!!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 08/09/2022 17:32

it's a hole.
you'd be better booking one of the premier inns or budget Ibis

PauliesWalnuts · 08/09/2022 17:33

Please don’t - tat hotel and Sashas are infamous as the worst hotels in Manchester. Motel One are clean and stylish and v reasonable, and if you’re on a totally tight budget even the YHA hostel in Castlefield is clean, nice and safe.

Yup, I'm sure there's been a few murders and suicides. I'd give it a miss.
