If you could go on any short break right now, where would you go?

Fed up with the cost of living crisis and having no money. I thought a little fantasy thread would be some nice escapism.

So you can go away for say 3/4 nights, all expenses paid. Where are you off to and what would you do?

I would love to go to Iceland in the summer. Been in the winter years ago but id love to see what it looks like not covered in feet of snow. Id go whale watching.

I'd go to visit family in Noth Carolina USA.

HappyChloé2 · 02/09/2022 20:08

We’re in Ibiza, seeing some friends. We’re likely to go to Bordeaux or the North of Spain in the October half term, and to the South of France for Christmas.

If we didn’t have the children it’d be Monaco, Los Angeles and Vegas in the cooler months.

Verbena87 · 02/09/2022 20:09

I’m going to Venice with a sketchbook and some watercolours and an infinite gelato budget please. I am going to waft around aimlessly with nobody asking me to wipe bums/find bits of missing lego.

Verbena87 · 02/09/2022 20:10

Then San Sebastián for pinxos and mouth-strippingly dry cider.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 02/09/2022 20:13

Ooh Rome please and thank you. I’ve been before but it was a last minute thing and so I’d like to go back now I know the lay of the land.

They do night tours of the Colosseum which would be amazing and I’d very much enjoy sitting in rooftop bars eating my own body weight in suppli and other delicious Italian snacks watching the sun go down.

Prague. Wandering around the old town, sitting on Charles Bridge, visiting the little cafes. I love it there but haven't been for a good few years now.

Venetian Harbour Hotel, Crete

Keladrythesaviour · 02/09/2022 20:36

Rome. I travel there a lot but I just never get tired.

Hoppinggreen · 02/09/2022 20:39

I love Seville, we often go in October so maybe we will this year.
I have also been looking at lovely Riads in Morocco. DH has suggested NYC at Christmas but I’m not sure

Hawkins001 · 02/09/2022 20:40

London, for British museum.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 02/09/2022 20:40

Rome too for me. I’ve been at least 6 times and never get sick of it.

I’d eat my body weight in polpette cacio e pepe in Il Tonnarello in Trastevere.

Mumwithsons · 02/09/2022 20:42

Glencoe, Scotland. Wild and magnificent. Just heading into autumn. Perfect.

MangosteenSoda · 02/09/2022 20:43

Havana. Can I go in business class? The quick turnaround will be tough.

MintyGreenDreams · 02/09/2022 20:49

Benidorm.I love the old town and all the tack at the other end.

OrigamiOwls · 02/09/2022 20:58

Budapest

Valencia. I studied there on my year abroad years ago and haven’t made it back since. I’d love to see how it’s changed (or not) and eat amazing paella at the beach.

Decidualcast · 02/09/2022 21:33

Terra Nostra Garden Hotel in the Azores. I’d soak in the thermal pool at midnight under a full moon and the stars. I’d enjoy the silence and warmth. It’s one of the most delightful places in the world.

Cuck00soup · 02/09/2022 21:40

Somewhere warm & pretty. Thinking Corsica, the Italian lakes or the Scilly Isles.

Taking wine and a good book. Or several.

DeborahVance · 02/09/2022 21:41

Porto. Wandering round, stopping in a cafe with a book whenever I please.

TheBikiniExpert · 02/09/2022 21:42

Probably against the spirit of a free holiday but I'd like to camp somewhere beautiful and wild. I slept in a tent in a relative's garden recently but it gave me a taste for the real thing.

BarrelOfOtters · 02/09/2022 21:45

New York, drinks, theatre, walk to Brooklyn and eat pizza.

whatatanker · 02/09/2022 21:49

Nice for me please. Some autumn sunshine and quiet beaches in September. A mooch around the gorgeous vintage shops and a soothing glass of rosé in the evening.

Free is free, whatever you like! That sounds amazing in theory but I'm terrible at camping 😆

These suggestions are great. The thermal pool under the stars sounds lovely.
