Does anyone remember this?

I’ve got a really vivid memory of walkers salt and vinegar crisps being blue then changing to green. I can remember the shop I was at when I noticed the change. I’ve listened to a great podcast about this, and apparently it didn’t happen, but I am curious does anyone else remember this?!?!

I've often heard people saying this, but I honestly don't remember Walkers salt and vinegar crisps ever being in a blue packet. I'm nearly 60,and I've been eating Walkers crisps for decades! I must admit I've always thought it a bit odd,as most other crisp manufacturers put salt and vinegar in a green packet.

I had always thought this happened too

But I must be mixing it up with the change from when golden wonder were everywhere to suddenly it being all walkers.

I do miss golden wonder.

This definitely happened. Salt and vinegar packets were always blue, cheese and onion were green then Walkers switched it. Nice bit of attention seeking confusion which worked as here we are talking about it today. I would like crisps now please.

Except it definitely didn't.

Walkers packers were always blue for C&O and green for S&V. It's the fact that they were different to the other brands that has caused the confusion.

all photos of vintage Walkers crisps are this way round.

If it was true there'd be lots of pictures and evidence and the supposed switching advert would have been put on youtube by somebody!

My theory is that Walkers were not really the most common crisps sold in shops in the 1980s - we are all just remembering other brands where salt and vinegar are blue.

BettyBootsie · 03/09/2022 15:17

I'm from NI and from what I remember, Walkers were only sold here from around the mid-90s. I remember being so confused that they had blue for cheese & onion - here, blue was always for salt & vinegar whether it was from Golden Wonder or Tayto.

To confuse matters further, Tayto cheese & onion are yellow 😆(it's Tayto spring onion flavour in a green packet)

inkworks273 · 03/09/2022 15:23

Nope. They've always been green for salt and vinegar and blue for cheese and onion. I remember when walkers first came out and being confused as I was so used to the golden wonder colours.

I got a walkers fiver, out of my green salt and vinegar walkers !!

Knittynanna · 03/09/2022 15:31

I spent it on a giant gob stopper which took weeks to eat and resulted in me having two ugly amalgram fillings

BeautifulWar · 03/09/2022 16:21

I conjoined have sworn this happened too, but looking back I did prefer GW, so it must have been the switch in prevalence playing mind tricks on me!
