What do you use your food processor for?

I've just bought a decent food processor and can't wait to try it out. What magic do you make with yours?

Crumble topping.
Pastry.
Cake batter - better than the useless Kitchen Aid.
Curry paste.
Coleslaw.

Off the top of my head.

Bunda · 31/08/2022 11:07

Grating cheese when you need a whole block! Saves so much time! Now if only I had a dishwasher too.

WTHamIreading · 31/08/2022 11:11

I use the jug to make smoothies every day
grate cheese
Blend chickpeas to make protein bars
Blend dates to make ‘caramel’ for healthy treats
shredding veg
thinly slicing potatoes for dauphinois
Roughly chop bags of nuts
I use the spice mill to blitz dried peas to make pea protein powder.

I don’t use it to make cakes, my hand held whisk and a bowl are easier to clean than my processor.

I use it for batch cooking so grating disc for cheese, mine has a multi sized feed tube, carrots, slicing disc for onions, chopping disc for onions, peppers, blitzing up tinned plum tomatoes. I use it to make crumble topping and the pastry base although I use a pat in pan method rather than rolling out.

I use it in the summer to pulverise fruit to make home made ice lollies. There are probably other things but I can't think what they are. I have had it for years and it is a helpful gadget for the kitchen.

BenchOfCompany · 31/08/2022 11:12

Oh yes it has the jug attachment too. So smoothies or milkshakes. I did used to make oat milk in it too.

isthismylifenow · 31/08/2022 11:21

I use it all the time, for all sorts.

Last night whipped cream to go with nachos. Used the blender bit for guacamole.

Made pasta dough over the weekend.

I have attachments so use it for smoothies, chopping big batches of veg I bought marked down (I blanch and freeze).

Ds made brownies.

Used the citrus juicer to make fresh orange juice as the oranges were just sitting there looking forlorn. Oh used it to squeeze lemons for iced tea as well.

The uses are quite endless.

I have a Kenwood btw.

BeesKnee · 31/08/2022 12:14

I use mine almost every day.

any grating or shredding.

Dough for bread/pizza/flatbread.

cake and muffin batter.

Nut cheeses.

sauces and soups.

hummus and other dips and spreads.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 31/08/2022 12:26

Pesto. The cheese disc grates the cheese and the blades pulverises the basil or parsley and then emulsifies the mix with the oil ( I do use ground almonds though for smoothness)
Obviously I use it for all the cake, pastry veg slicing etc as per the book, but the pesto is just so much easier, it’s our fave,

goldfinchonthelawn · 31/08/2022 12:29

In the past week I've used it to make:
crumble
chocolate truffles
butter icing
grated cheese for a massive mac n cheese
breadcrumbs to top the macaroni
guacamole

In winter I make a lot of soups with it.
Also use it for coleslaw and other salads

I find it a real pain in the butt to clean

Do you mean the attachments?

I usually rinse them off, sometimes that does the job, otherwise I put them in the dishwasher.

I keep the shedder/ slicer set up though, so once it's clean it's ready to go again.

First it makes it simpler to use, and once before I lost the small little blade scoopy part when I hadn't assembled it again.

Which I should add in here that I found this part a few months ago. It had been missing for about 8 years. I was looking for something else kitchen related, and it was in the most ridiculous place. Clearly I had not been looking in the box it had been in for a fair while 🙈😂. I still cannot fathom out how it got there though....

Whipped cream on nachos?!

Yes...sour cream... it's a side along with the guacamole.

Bloody delicious too

😀

TheVanguardSix · 31/08/2022 15:23

Borscht (The T at the end of this word was furiously debated on MN the other day... just donning my hard hat in advance).
Yes so, mostly borscht, mushroom soup, coleslaw/red cabbage and carrot salad, veggie chopping
guacamole

Disneydatknee88 · 31/08/2022 15:49

Some great ideas. Thanks everyone for sharing 😊

Great thread, I’ve only used mine for coleslaw, this has inspired me to get it out of the back of the cupboard

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 31/08/2022 15:59

Taking up space in my already already full cupboards...Grin

I will be reconsidering that on the back of this thread though!

@isthismylifenow we just buy a pot of sour cream. Do you mean you whip normal cream and add lemon juice (I don’t care what DH says, it does NOT taste the same Wink ) or are you whipping cartons of sour cream?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 31/08/2022 16:07

Smoothies.
Veg if making a big portion of something, especially onions!
Tomatoes for tomato and chili jam
Pastry

Yes I just used normal cream and added in lime juice. It was half a carton that needed using up. I'm with your dh here... I think it tastes the same 😊😂

SpaghettiSquash · 31/08/2022 16:12

Falafel
Coleslaw
Dips
Pastry
Grating whole blocks of cheese
Pesto
Slicing potatoes for Dauphinoise Pots

gogohmm · 31/08/2022 16:20

Very little, I hate cleaning it. I do drag it off the top of the pantry if I'm make coleslaw for loads of people. I have a little spice grinder to make curry pastes separate

TeenDivided · 31/08/2022 16:27
  1. Making breadcrumbs for bread sauce at Christmas
  2. ?
That's it. Smile
5zeds · 31/08/2022 16:33

Yes the attachments. Just huge and annoying. I rinse and dishwasher too, I’m still not convinced. Mines a kitchen aide and I thought I’d love it.
