MintyGreenDreams · 31/08/2022 10:50

Occasionally I like a bottle of wine to myself if dh is working away,I watch trash on TV and enjoy the alone time.

One bottle never seems enough iykwim I could always do with another glass Grin
Of course I could buy 2 bottles but I don't want to I just want a litre bottle of wine is that too much to ask!

Before anyone starts

1.no I don't have a drink problem

2.its occasionally.

3.this is a lighthearted post aimed at wine drinkers.

There are a few more that are litre sized.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/08/2022 10:53

get to the continent and buy litres of wine there

a litre of wine in a night is pretty spicy though, I could do that in my early 20s but I have to drink bio, organic wine as otherwise anything above about 2 glasses now leaves me a bit fuzzy

JustALittleHelpPlease · 31/08/2022 10:54

I used to be able to get catering packs (house wine) 6 x 1lt at £2.58 per bottle, it was perfectly reasonable wine too...

Excellent value for a party however it does make me very reluctant to pay restaurant prices for house wine these days Grin

I feel pleasantly drunk but not so I'm incapable I've always had a high tolerance to wine.I only drink it around every 3 months now as I understand that amount isn't ideal.

We buy our wine in 5litre boxes.
Problem solved :-)

oldwhyno · 31/08/2022 10:55

they do 18.7cl bottles in sainsburys (not just good for cooking), 20 and 25 cl cans and the odd 150cl bottles for "sharing".

DottyDotAgain · 31/08/2022 10:57

Oooh - I dream of finding a really good box of wine to have in..! Just worry that I'd buy one and then not like it. But the dream is good Grin

HiVisAndWellies · 31/08/2022 10:58

There are smaller bottles and cans, and bigger boxes

TeaCosyApplePie · 31/08/2022 10:59

I would like a non-magnum sized bottle of Prosecco containing 1litre rather than stupid 750ml bottles! We share a bottle on a Friday night and trying to measure out that last little bit after 2 glasses is a pain! 😆

RiverSkater · 31/08/2022 11:01

Buy a box? That would be lethal for me though, I don't have an off button,

I'd prefer a half bottle as that would be perfect!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/08/2022 11:03

M&S sell a litre bottle.

Hopeandlove · 31/08/2022 11:04

Do a box of wine far better

There are half bottles of wine available in lots of shops. Pretty much all the supermarkets I know do them.

I’m the last one to criticise really, but a litre of wine is 14/15 units isn’t it…? I drink most nights, but I’d seldom want that much so I can’t imagine there’s that much demand for a 1 litre bottle. For drinking by myself, I’d quite like a 500ml bottle of champagne…I believe Pol Roget used to make 1 pint bottles, which Churchill was partial to :)

MintyGreenDreams · 31/08/2022 12:28

Never tried box wine is it as good? I like a dry new Zealand Sav

You need a box of wine 😉

gogohmm · 31/08/2022 13:14

Box, 1.5 litre bottle. Just buy 2 Grin

We buy a case normally because there's 4 adults, a case lasts a couple of weeks

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 31/08/2022 13:20

I buy wine boxes for the opposite reason, I live alone and only want a small glass or maybe two and once a bottle is open I end up drinking 3 nights running because I don’t want it to go to waste, which I don’t think is a healthy habit.

Majestic Wine do an admittedly limited range of wine boxes, but some of the same wine is available in bottles so you can see if you like it before you commit to a box.

Do boxes of wine keep for long after they're open?

6 weeks apparently.

nauticant · 31/08/2022 13:54

I'm a big fan of the 50cl bottle but they're rare in the UK and are often heavily marked up in price.

You can buy 187.5, 250, 325, 750, 1l and 1.5l, and boxes...

In France you can go to the local 'cave' and fill p any receptacle you like for about 1.5 euro / litre, just make sure you have gaviscon in!

😂

@hedgehoglurker loving your use of "apparently".

user1471554720 · 30/12/2022 18:13

I would love something like 2 thirds of a bottle. I can drink a little over half a bottle on Fri and Sat nights myself. I drink one and a third of a bottle in total. It is annoying to have two thirds of a second bottle left. This does not really keep fresh for the next weekend.
