What unexpected thing have you found in your handbag?

I was rummaging in my bag for my car keys this morning, and found a Cadbury's Creme Egg. It must have been in there for months, and I've no idea how it had remained hidden from my chocoholic self for so long. It was a bit battered and squashed, but I ate it anyway.

Please tell me I'm not alone in finding random surprises in handbags!

Shawl pin. Haven’t worn one for several years!

Angelofthenortheast · 26/08/2022 17:19

A keyring with my uncle's face on one side and Chessington World of Adventures on the other.

alloalloallo · 26/08/2022 17:19

I found a chicken cuppa soup in mine the other day.

It must have been in there ages, I haven’t had soup for months. I had it with my lunch.

Surtsey · 26/08/2022 17:22

@alloalloallo I wonder if your soup was as out of date as my creme egg?

I found a couple of boiled sweets today, I was rummaging around for some change. No idea how they got there as it's not something I would buy. they can stay there until I need a sugar rush.

Sachet of HP sauce turned up in mine a few days ago. I don’t even like HP sauce!

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/08/2022 17:27

A pound coin in a bag I was taking to the charity shop. It had been in a cupboard for ages.

RovenderKitt · 26/08/2022 17:28

A sweet potato. I’d accidentally taken it to work.

musicandpassion · 26/08/2022 17:31

Tweezers. Not too surprising, until you know that my bag was searched by me and two security guards before I went into court and no one found them!

RitzyTitzy · 26/08/2022 17:34

A few weeks back I found some loose, old McDonald's nuggets floating around that one of my dcs probably threw in there thinking it was for safe keeping Hmm. They'd started to go mouldy and had spread a lovely oily sheen of mc chicken nuggets oil over all my stuff.

Purplepjs · 26/08/2022 17:35

A live mouse. Quite the surprise!

Poppins2016 · 26/08/2022 17:39

TV remote.

@musicandpassion similar to you... an unopened pack of Wilkinson Sword razor blades... a day after going through airport security!

Watto1 · 26/08/2022 17:41

I had forgotten about the cat poo in my handbag incident until this thread. The door between the cat and his litter tray was accidentally left shut overnight so the poor thing thought the best place to ‘go’ was in my handbag. That was a nice surprise when I came downstairs in the morning!

KingscoteStaff · 26/08/2022 17:41

3 wrapped sugar cubes - stolen by my son from the cafe table and secreted in a little-used pocket in my bag 'just in case we meet a horse, mummy'...

Gubu · 26/08/2022 17:42

My wedding ring. It was a handbag I hardly ever use that lives in a drawer in the hall. I'd remembered taking my ring off in the kitchen 🤷‍♀️

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 26/08/2022 17:43

A broken light switch.

I vaguely remember dumping it in there around May after I changed one over at my son’s flat. No idea why I didn’t just put the crap one in his bin.

Surtsey · 26/08/2022 17:43

HP sauce? That reminds me... goes off to check... yep.

Two sachets of tartare sauce in the front pocket.

totallyaddictedtocheese · 26/08/2022 17:46

A tub of clotted cream. It was miles out of date (and warm) when I found it.

Ugh. Just as well you found it when you did then!🤑

When DD was in nursery, one Easter they decorated hard boiled eggs for Easter. We wrapped it in kitchen roll and put it in my bag to show my DM later and promptly forgot about it. Weeks later, I must have bashed it accidentally - we were in the car and suddenly there was the most horrific smell. We nearly passed out. I would much rather find a crème egg!

ohthehorrorthehorror · 26/08/2022 17:54

A dead mouse. Deposited there by the cat. Thankfully I saw her fussing around my bag and realised something was up, so it wasn't long dead when I fished the poor thing out.

Cheesechops · 26/08/2022 17:55

A mouldy lemon

StiggyZardust · 26/08/2022 17:56

A fossilised satsuma.

GingerAndLemonn · 26/08/2022 17:56

Back when I was a teen, drunk me used to like cooking for sober me and there was one time I got to work and opened my handbag and there was a cold fish finger sandwich just wrapped in a tea towel crammed into it.
