Disney Plus doing Jilly Cooper's Rivals

This is just the best news. I've been waiting for an adaptation of Rivals since I first fell in love with the bounder Rupert C-B in circa 1997.

But the question is who will play him? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fill those boots - any suggestions?

Actually I'm withdrawing my James Cordon for Freddie and replacing him with Daniel Mays - I think he could do the twinkly charm better.

Maybe Phillip Glenister for Tony - he's a bit old but I'm prepared to overlook that.

I actually think Philip Glenister would also be a brilliant Paul Stratton - slimy hypocritical Tory MP who dumped solid dependable wife Winifred to run off with his secretary who is half his age. So he must be at least early fifties and google tells me Philip Glenister is 59 so that would work.

@Hels20 Gala is the character name not the book name, they’re from the last book Mount.

She is an absolutely godawful character too which makes the betrayal worse. 😫 There’s another element that makes it worse still but I’ll not spoil it is case you want to read it yourself.

Yes I gave up on Mount too, was very disappointed. I've never not finished a Jilly! Quite the opposite - I've usually rationed myself so as not to finish them too quickly.

I read as far as the art one, Pandora? I think. Then decided that my Rutshire chronicles only go as far as Score! because everything after that is terrible.

Hope they get the locations right too, I have a very clear image in my head of penscombe, penscombe priory and Valerie's house (can't remember what it's called now, green lawns? Maybe!). Clearly I have spent way too much time living in my imaginary rutminster!
