Disney Plus doing Jilly Cooper's Rivals

This is just the best news. I've been waiting for an adaptation of Rivals since I first fell in love with the bounder Rupert C-B in circa 1997.

But the question is who will play him? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fill those boots - any suggestions?

Some of these RCB suggestions are stressing me out. Yes I am a Jilly Cooper fanatic 😂 I’ve read the books about 5 million times and I’ve literally never been able to conjure up a face to the name that does him justice. I genuinely think they would need to find a stunningly attractive unknown that actually fits the description - blonde, tall, long green nose etc. It needs to be someone exceptional. Ideas so far:

taggie - Marion Cotillard if she can do gruff Irish accent
declan - Liam neeson or a younger version
patrick - agree with pp cillian murphy
Cameron - the girl who played Anna in This Life or younger version
maud - agree with pp Helena B-C
Johnny friedlander - has to be Johnny depp!
lizzie V - agree fern britton perfect!

Used to be RPJ for RCB for me but I think he's a bit old for Rivals era. I would accept Chris Hemsworth as a worthy alternative.
Liam Neeson is Declan in my head. I could make my peace with a roughed up Colin Farrell. Y'know, if I had to.

Chris Hemsworth is no good for RCB. Two types of blondes - surfer himbos or icy toffs. RCB is icy toff while Hemsworth is himbo. Alexander Skarsgaard would be a great RCB actually, he was basically playing the part in Big Little Lies.

Literally no one is hot enough to be RCB. I think we have to brace ourselves for disappointment.

Even so, I’m totally “ squeeeee!!” over this news.

I think Caitlin is my favourite non-main character. Who can we cast for her..? I would like to have been like her when I was younger. Sadly I was more like poor old Sharon.

I agree RCB and Declan amongst others are going to hard to cast, that's what makes the books so good there just isn't anyone like that IRL!

That sounds interesting. It was several years ago that Riders was done, and I don't think they cast RCB right then, so lets hope this lot do a better job.

Alexander Scarsgaard is gorgeous, he has the right look for sure. I loved Michael Praed in Riders, gorgeous but didn't find Rupert attractive at all, he definitely wasn't like that in my head!

I hate it when books roles are badly cast in films. I hated Tom Hanks in Da Vinci code, nothing like the character at all. Ruined it for me.

I’ve been thinking about this all day at work 🙈 and again on the Derry Girls cast list, how about Louisa Harland for Taggie? She’s tall, big eyed, husky voice, gawky yet gorgeous, not actually from Northern Ireland so her real accent may fit…
