Do you get dressed before breakfast?

We don't. We tend to get up, wash faces brush teeth and go downstairs for breakfast. This came about (I think!) because of FS when he was a wee lad. And he got his clothes messy at breakfast.

Anyway, we then go back up and dress etc. We shower in the evening most of the time.

What do you do?

I normally get dressed first, usually while the DC are either still asleep or just messing around on their tablets first thing. They get dressed after breakfast, because of the potential for mess.

WendyAndDave · 23/08/2022 09:10

Yes, because I sleep in the nip. I'd much rather get dressed than put a dressing gown on and risk flashing teen DC 😭

ShadowoftheFall · 23/08/2022 09:10

No

Bakingwithmyboys · 23/08/2022 09:10

If it's a work/school day or we need to get going. We get dressed first.

If we are not going anywhere then we have breakfast first. Currently still in PJ's but thinking about getting sorted for the day.

For us it seems to signify a relaxing day if we don't get dressed first and we lounge around a bit. Can be a bit of a shock to the system for DC (7 and 4) at the end of a holiday though. Lol.

We brush our teeth after breakfast no matter what.

Cynderella · 23/08/2022 09:12

Almost always get dressed first - I'm always slower to start in the morning if I start the day drinking coffee in PJs.

JenGin · 23/08/2022 09:14

If we've got people staying, which feels like every day at the moment, then I do but otherwise I tend not to. Especially on weekends. On weekends I may not even get dressed before dinner, either!

Craftybodger · 23/08/2022 09:15

Bathroom, dressed, downstairs, breakfast and sort pets, then leave the house. We flow from up to down through the house in the morning

notacooldad · 23/08/2022 09:16

When the children were at primary school it was breakfast first and then get ready. I didn't want breakfast and toothpaste down their jumpers just before we left the house!!

ShirleyJackson · 23/08/2022 09:16

If I’m not at work, I’m lucky if I get dressed before lunch Grin

Allschoolsareartschools · 23/08/2022 09:17

I get dressed before breakfast but I do get up early & have a coffee in my dressing gown first.
When dc were young they always got dressed afterwards because they usually spilt something!

HideTheCroissants · 23/08/2022 09:19

Weekends - breakfast (usually in bed) before showering etc.

Weekdays - shower, dress, make up (if going out) then breakfast downstairs. In term time I have breakfast after I get to work (I get to work about half an hour before my start time).

AdoraBell · 23/08/2022 09:21

No, if I eat breakfast in my pjs I never drop toast/yoghurt but if I’m dressed it’s almost guaranteed that raspberry jam will land on my light coloured top. Law of the university type guarantee.

IceStationZebra · 23/08/2022 09:21

I used to, but not since having DC. Same as @Cynderella it does make me feel slow and sluggish if I lounge around in PJs for too long though.

My ideal weekday morning without needing to sort DC out would be wake up, straight into hot shower, dry hair, go get breakfast and coffee, teeth, dress, makeup, leave house.

goldfinchonthelawn · 23/08/2022 09:22

No.
I used to for decades. Now I have declined into slobbing around in PJs and dressing gown.

LionessesRules · 23/08/2022 09:23

Kids:always breakfast in PJs
Me: term time (I work TTO), clothes then breakfast. Holidays breakfast in PJs.
DH doesn't eat breakfast.

LittleLlama · 23/08/2022 09:25

No - because I might spill something on my clean clothes (I am a little clumsy in the morning).

Greengreengrassbluebluesky · 23/08/2022 09:27

No, breakfast before dressing. But I couldn’t clean my teeth first!

dmask · 23/08/2022 09:30

No breakfast during the week, but at weekends we breakfast in nightwear, then shower and change. I can’t imagine brushing my teeth before coffee and breakfast, surely it tastes horrible and then you have to do it again after breakfast?

No. It doesn't taste funky. For example, If we get up at 7, teeth are brushed by 7:15, and breakfast would be around 8. So any minty toothpaste flavour is gone.

Its recommended to do it before breakfast. Otherwise you'd be "feeding" any nasties on your teeth, and then would have to wait another 30 minutes after eating to brush.

On schooldays it's breakfast, brush teeth then getting dressed otherwise the kids spill stuff.
If we aren't going anywhere we stay in pjs all day

Have to brush my teeth as soon as I get up - has no effect on coffee, but it does make orange juice taste wrong. I do often give them a quick brush after too, but not always. That's more about brushing after coffee than breakfast, as I only eat that on holiday.

LaFemmeNicola · 23/08/2022 09:39

Yes, I always have breakfast at work, as it seems does everyone else in the office.

QuietYou · 23/08/2022 09:57

School mornings shower, teeth and dressed first. When the children were younger they'd eat in just t-shirts incase of spillages.

Holidays, anything goes although I encourage teeth done first.

EquallyDivided · 23/08/2022 09:58

No, our only bathroom is downstairs so I come down as soon as I get up, then potter about a bit, have breakfast and shower/ go back up to dress is the last thing before setting off for work.
