Do you get dressed before breakfast?

We don't. We tend to get up, wash faces brush teeth and go downstairs for breakfast. This came about (I think!) because of FS when he was a wee lad. And he got his clothes messy at breakfast.

Anyway, we then go back up and dress etc. We shower in the evening most of the time.

What do you do?

I get dressed as soon as I get up, otherwise I'm much more likely to laze around for longer. So I'll get dressed, have breakfast, then brush teeth etc and I'm good to go!

No. It doesn't taste funky. For example, If we get up at 7, teeth are brushed by 7:15, and breakfast would be around 8. So any minty toothpaste flavour is gone.

Its recommended to do it before breakfast. Otherwise you'd be "feeding" any nasties on your teeth, and then would have to wait another 30 minutes after eating to brush.

I only drink coffee in the morning, so I like to brush my teeth after to minimise staining (probably is around 30mins after eating as I wash up breakfast things, dress the baby, then have a shower). At weekends I don’t have lunch, so It makes sense to be to brush after breakfast so I don’t have food and stains in my mouth all day. And yes, I brush my teeth after dinner!

Our routine is:
wake up
breakfast
shower and teeth
Get dressed

MicksMate · 23/08/2022 12:56

We breakfast in PJs whenever possible. DC dress first in termtime because it was easier than shepherding them downstairs then up again when they were tiny.

Whataplanker · 23/08/2022 13:35

I have breakfast the minute I wake up. I can't function until I've eaten!

FunsizedandFabulous · 23/08/2022 13:58

No because I'm clumsy and would inevitably spill something down my clean clothes.

UpsideDownDownsideUp · 23/08/2022 14:48

I get dressed literally 2 min before leaving. I get too hot and sweaty trying to sort kids and everythingm
So wash, teeth beds, kids breakfast, wash up, load kids stuff into car ( on drive) load of washing out on line, get kids shoes on. Run upstairs and get dressed, walk out door.

Shower and dress before FC is up, down for breakfast, FC has breakfast in PJ's otherwise they end up needing another change of clothes once breakfast is done.

FreezyFreezy · 23/08/2022 15:07

I don't have breakfast.
If we're going to school or work then yes, we get dressed when we get up; if it's a holiday then we don't get dressed at all and spend the day in our PJs unless we're going out.

Allmarbleslost · 23/08/2022 15:10

On work days I shower and get dressed before having breakfast. On weekends breakfast and a cuppa or 2 first.

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/08/2022 15:23

I dress first, but I sleep in the buff and have breakfast at work, so the alternative is a bit 🫢

Rosehugger · 23/08/2022 15:25

Yes, because I don't often eat breakfast.

Never. Breakfast and laundry / dishwasher etc first.
Brush teeth an hour or so after breakfast. I have IBS so add in a few toilet trips first thing. No point in getting dressed before all that.

MinnieMountain · 23/08/2022 15:28

We get dressed, then have breakfast on weekends. Although DH doesn’t eat until 10.

Weekends DH and I will still, but DS puts his dressing gown on and plays whilst he eats.

mast0650 · 23/08/2022 15:29

Yes. Always. Very very very rare that I don't. Having a shower is a crucial part of waking up and the first thing I do. Feel yucky otherwise. Then I get dressed and have breakfast. Plus I don't normally wear anything in bed so I have to put something on!

Children used to when they went to school. Now they are 18 and 20 and generally don't at the moment.

mast0650 · 23/08/2022 15:31

Teeth brushing is definitely after breakfast though, otherwise it tastes funny.

TimeAtTheBar · 23/08/2022 15:32

I don’t start work until six today…I’m still in my pyjamas.

justusandmoo · 23/08/2022 16:46

In the work/school week we always dress and then have breaky. Mostly do this on she weekends too but occasionally have a lazy weekend so have breakfast first.

I'm a big morning person and so is my partner. We love to be up and showered early and then eat breakfast together x

RhubarbMoon · 23/08/2022 16:48

Never ever dressed before breakfast. I don't want to risk ruining my clothes before even left or having to change the DC because they now have marmite on their top.

I don't feel awake enough to get dressed before a tea and/or coffee anyway.

If I'm not going out, me and DC won't get dressed and all.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 23/08/2022 16:49

When I worked, I ate in my dressing gown. I have a tendency to wear my food, so that way I kept my work clothes clean.

Now retired, I get dressed before I eat.

Ragwort · 23/08/2022 16:49

No ... unless we have guests.

Joystir59 · 23/08/2022 17:31

I walk the dog before breakfast so I alays get dressed

weegiemum · 23/08/2022 21:07

Always. I'm disabled so only go upstairs in an emergency. So up, dressed, down, breakfast (well, coffee). Up again at bedtime!

Dc (young adults now) - ds only has coffee but has it as soon as he wakes up so often only in his boxers! Dd2 isuallly grabs something as she leaves the house, usually late!
