A Thread For Lovely Autumn Things!

ChickPeaChic · 22/08/2022 11:22

I’ve got a little bit of the Monday blues as I keep thinking after next weekend summer is pretty much over and it’s time for the dark and cold again 🙄. Thought I’d try and make a list of nice autumn things to enjoy/look forward to so I can make the most of this next lovely season, anyone fancy joining?

So far I’ve got:

Getting out all my autumn candles, cinnamon/berry smells etc
Buying some gingerbread syrup for my morning coffees
Going to try and book to do something nice for bonfire night if anyone has any suggestions!

I’ve started washing all my blankets and throws ready for cuddling up on the sofa!
Love the smell of a crisp Autumn morning.
Been picking blackberries to freeze for crumble later in the year.
I love summer so much but by this point in August I’m ready for Autumn 🧡

Covetthee · 23/08/2022 16:37

I love the autumn and the lead up to xmas, everything just seems magical.

looking forward to lots of comforting winter foods that I haven’t wanted in the summer like roasts, pies, Soups, lots of tea and flavoured coffee’s, esp if its raining outside and i can snuggle up
on the sofa

my lovely winter candles, summer ones don’t do it for me

Love autumn fashion, jumpers boots, coats, hats. cosy pj’s and dressing gown and socks.

clichè but walks with crunchy leaves everywhere.

And lastly TV, bests shows are on then.. A lot of the american shows I watch release their new seasons in the autumn.

Unusually, I love dark mornings and the shorter days. I love the "cosseted" feeling that comes with it.

Strictly!

New series of All Creatures Great and Small plus His Dark Materials to look forward to.

Hot chocolates in a cafe on a rainy day.

Cold, clear, frosty days.

Wood fires.

Bonfire night.

Candles that smell of wood smoke and leather.

HippyDippieTrees · 23/08/2022 17:14

I'm almost ready for autumn. I love summer and have really enjoyed the weather but I am ready for lots of nice walks, roasts, red wine, pumkins, and I like the dark mornings and evenings. Candles and cosiness.

LadyHelenaJustina · 23/08/2022 17:20

I love the variety of our seasons, and enjoy each one in its turn. I’m looking forward to log fires, roast dinners, and bed socks. And that wonderful feeling of putting on a jumper because I’m feeling a bit chilly (though the joy of that may be short-lived this year as hearing bills are so high)

I dislike summer and love autumn/spring. 🍁

Candles and fairy lights
Snuggly jumpers and scarves, woolly hats.
New pyjamas, fluffy socks.
Hearty soup, stews and casseroles (I hate eating in summer heat!)
Changing colours of the trees
Crisp mornings
Back to school feeling - I always tend to stick longer with resolutions made at this time of the year.
Boots and tights.

HippyDippieTrees · 23/08/2022 17:23

Oo I am looking forward to wearing tights with dresses again.

ChickPeaChic · 23/08/2022 17:29

Yes to jumpers! Might treat myself to a new one.

I've been burning a cinnamon vanilla candle today, I've got a gingerbread one ready for Christmas. There's usually some decent new telly to watch in the autumn.

Solosunrise · 23/08/2022 20:11

Blackberry picking!
Walking in golden mornings
Gazing at spider webs
Planning a seasonal display this year
Getting to see the sun rise at a more sensible hour
Organizing my winter woolies
Attending an autumn bulb planting workshop at the local garden centre
Ive got stuff to do in the garden that it's been too hot for!

I'm very excited!

Solosunrise · 23/08/2022 20:14

Pumpkin carving too!
And i think this year I'd like to go to a professional firework display
I too love a bit of autumn telly!

I have a weird thing where I can only read certain genres during certain seasons. Got a lovely pile of historical drama and gothic horror waiting to be read!

I’ve got wolf hall on my list to read so you’ve inspired me to do it in the next couple of months!

Wolf Hall is on my pile!!

Northernsouloldies · 23/08/2022 20:51

Kicking through piles of fallen leaves. 😁

Devo1818 · 24/08/2022 17:31

Cinnamon rolls, bakewell tart, pumpkin pie and roasts

CruCru · 24/08/2022 17:50

Early to mid September is my favourite time of year. It’s crisp and sunny and I have the back to school feeling.

Nice thread. I think I’ll check out some new jumpers.

AlternativelyWired · 24/08/2022 18:00

Lentil soup and dumplings.
Crumble and custard.
Christmas shopping.
All Creatures Great and Small
Strike
Walks in the countryside
Picking blackberries
Making Christmas decorations on rainy days.
I love autumn.

lollipoprainbow · 24/08/2022 18:06

Personally can't wait to see the back of summer and get my lovely autumn here please. The heat has been way too much for me this year.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 24/08/2022 18:07

I've rotated my many candles into autumnal scents- spices, tobacco, vanilla and sandalwood scents. And swapped from lavender to earthier scented incense.

Changing over cushions and throws into autumnal colours as well as bedding- going to Asda tomorrow to collect my autumn bedding order. Lots of burgundy and forest green this year.

I've unboxed my autumnal kitchenware- orange utensils, halloweeny mugs, pumpkin shaped dishes etc. Plus tea towels.

I've ordered some autumnal fairy lights, a purple green and orange pom pom garland, fabric pumpkins and some little glass pumpkin sweetie jars!

(Hopefully) a bit of rain to sort the grass out, fill the reservoirs, and get rid of the hosepipe ban.

Not being too hot in bed.

Being able to wear my (lightweight) coats with pockets without overheating, as my summer heatwave clothes don't have good pockets.

Starting to write my Christmas letters and cards (my overseas post goes at the end of September), glass of wine in hand, candles flickering.

My partner not waking up far too early* because of the light and the birds (inc parakeets) chirping and not being able to get back to sleep and disturbing me.

*he says this, it's inconvenient to him, he then gets too tired later in the day before he wants to

Cosy food, good telly, crisp morning walks with less crowds in my favourite woods and gardens.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 24/08/2022 19:32

I love Autumn 🍂

but it's currently 30° here, I just can't focus on Autumn!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 24/08/2022 19:34

I've put you all on 'watch' though. I'll be back soon to absorb the Autumn Love!!

maybe even tomorrow as it's supposed to be much cooler, grey & wet
