Imagine you were invited to someone's garden for tea and cake, and there were three types of cake on offer.

Which three cakes would be the perfect types to choose between?

Recipes welcome 😋

Coffee walnut, lemon drizzle, home made battenburg

NumptiesIncorporated · 22/08/2022 07:53

I would say a richer cake - so think chocolate or fudge/caramel or coffee and walnut

A fruity cake so maybe lemon drizzle or white chocolate and raspberry or mandarin gateau

And a spicy cake - so maybe carrot cake, or cardamom or gingerbread

I haven’t made it yet, but Anges de Sucre is a fantastic independent baker in London who has shared her sponge recipe. Loads of people are raving about on Instagram. www.angesdesucre.com/blogs/anges-de-sucre/the-most-versatile-and-moist-cake-recipe

Coffee & Walnut (Delia)
Lemon Drizzle (Mary Berry)
Chocolate Guinness (Nigella)

Couldn't possibly choose between them so I'd have to have them all!

Queensize · 22/08/2022 07:57

@summertime has it right! A hard no to carrot cake from me.

PurBal · 22/08/2022 08:10

Lemon cake (but not drizzle, yuck)
Victoria sponge (traditional recipe, no cream/buttercream just jam)
Coffee.

cavebaby · 22/08/2022 08:18

Whoops, didn't read the 3 cakes part.

Carrot cake
Chocolate brownie (does that count as a cake?)
Lemon drizzle

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 22/08/2022 08:25

Victoria sponge
Lemon drizzle
Carrot cake

CakeCrumbs44 · 22/08/2022 08:28

Scones cream and jam (maybe not technically a cake but yummy)
Carrot cake
Moist chocolate cake - not a sponge with a few spoons of cocoa powder in

Carrot cake, chocolate fudge and a lemon drizzle for me! This would be a dream, I'd love someone to invite me and offer three cakes! 🍰

helogast · 22/08/2022 10:37

Lemon drizzle
Victoria sandwich
Chocolate cake

Fallulah · 22/08/2022 10:40

Definitely a Victoria Sponge.
Something rich - chocolate, toffee etc
Maybe a lemon drizzle.

Proper cakes, always, none of that cupcake schizzle!

motherofawhirlwind · 22/08/2022 11:57

Choose between?? Eh?!? Grin

I'd have a slice each of
Red velvet
Carrot with cream cheese frosting
And a scone with butter, jam and clotted cream (yes, all 3, in that order, with cream so thick it may end up on my nose)

There's a reason I'm fat.

hellosunshineagainx · 22/08/2022 12:11

Carrot, lrmon and chocolate

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/08/2022 12:18

A Victoria sponge with blackcurrant jam (less over sweet) is a favourite, maybe with buttercream - I don’t like actual cream though that’s a bit weird, I know.

I also love a lemon drizzle.
Apple cake is lovely, too.

CornishGem1975 · 22/08/2022 12:18

Lemon drizzle, a good chocolate fudge cake and a carrot cake.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 22/08/2022 12:21

I usually do the Macmillan coffee morning and the favourites that I always serve are:
coffee walnut
a really rich chocolate cake
something with fruit, like a lemon drizzle with raspberries. For something a bit different, lime drizzle with blueberries

This chocolate buttermilk cake is fab, ignore the easter decorations:

Or to kill two birds with one stone and have a gluten and dairy free offering:
www.nigella.com/recipes/chocolate-olive-oil-cake

toastofthetown · 22/08/2022 12:26

Does it have to be three cakes? Biscuits, scones or mini tarts would add some variety. But I’d choose lime and blueberry cake, Victoria sponge with fresh strawberries, not jam, and a spiced pumpkin cake with chocolate chips.

AdaColeman · 22/08/2022 12:27

Lemon meringue tart

Coffee & walnut cake

Fruit cake with cherries

Perhaps offer a couple of different types of tea also?

MissyB1 · 22/08/2022 12:30

Absolutely has to be
Coffee and Walnut
Victoria Sponge
Battenburg
