harryloop · 20/08/2022 19:19

My dog is a 1 year old whippet
He has just stole a packed of Richmond sausage from the fridge...ate 2 and the package and I got the rest from him.
Is this going to kill him?
He eats all sorts and I'm terrified that this will really hurt him.
It's a paper packet the skinless sausage packet (small one )
I was trying to get it off him and he was just snacking at me..he swallowed it.
My partner said it's my fault
It is isn't it
I don't know what I'm going to do if anything happens to him
It's all my fault isn't ut

Nah he should be ok. It will pass through though you might need to help if it gets stuck half way

harryloop · 20/08/2022 19:24

It was a papery type wrapper if that makes any difference

He'll be fine. Just make sure he's eating/drinking and pooing. You'll find it over the next couple of days.

The packaging is probably more nutritious than the sausages. He'll be fine.

harryloop · 20/08/2022 19:29

Thanks it's just because my partner said it was my fault and if he dies I'm to blame so I'm distraught now.
I love that dog so much
I just opened the fridge for milk and he dove in

My dog once ate the contents of the food bin including the bag. It came out in her poo a couple of days later. She was fine. Keep an eye on your dogs poo.

Your partner sounds lovely 🙄

autienotnaughty · 20/08/2022 19:31

Totally fine. He will do worse. My dog ate 750gram of chocolate £275 later he was completely fine. Btw if your ever worried you can buy charcoal from pet store to counteract toxins.

FlyingMasticatedParticles · 20/08/2022 19:33

Is your partner always so awful? The dog will be fine

GardenersDelight · 20/08/2022 19:33

Our rescue dog ate a lasagne ready meal packaging and all and suffered no ill effects!

TheSmallestOneWasMadeline · 20/08/2022 19:35

Another one saying fine. My dog has got hold of all sorts of hideous things and eaten them and barely gets as much as the shits, they have strong stomachs!

Hopeandlove · 20/08/2022 19:38

I can’t tell you what my dogs have eaten. The best one was the entire Christmas dinner - the lot - the whole turkey etc

m a very unpleasant 48 hours clearing up poo and vomit but they were so pleased with themselves and the chocolate log especially - nothing left 🙄

it is not your fault - your partner sounds dire though

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 20/08/2022 19:50

Years ago my dog ate 1lb butter plus wrapper. Everything passed through OK that night in a 'pebble-dashing a bungalow' fashion...

ExPatHereForAChat · 20/08/2022 20:02

They don't have any issue with paper, he'll be fine.
Why is your DH so horrid? He should be comforting and reassuring you.
You did nothing wrong. I'm guessing he too opens the fridge at times?

Ihatethenewlook · 20/08/2022 20:03

Your partners a twat. The dog will be fine. Mines eaten far worse

Itsthelookitsthelook · 20/08/2022 20:06

I think he will be fine, I would just keep an extra close eye on him to be sure for the next 2 days. Monitor his food & water intake and make sure he's weeing and pooing as usual. Any change and I'd be on the phone to the emergency vet.

harryloop · 20/08/2022 20:08

He does but he has a way of saying things to hurt me.
I said is it my fault ?
He said it is your fault ,I was sitting in the chair
I wasn't the one opening the fridge
I said it was a accident
I did it not even thinking
He is a whippet and so fast he just snatched it and ran
I chased him
I just keep thinking when he was snacking I should have just tried harder to get the wrapping out but it was so far down his throat.

He is playing with his toys and running around
Il see what he's like in the morning
I really hope it passes through okay
Il never forgive myself

My business partner's dog ( Jack Russell) ate 8 Easter Eggs leaving only the foil and cardboard and was fine .

Soubriquet · 20/08/2022 20:22

Please calm down! Your dog will be fine.

Your dp on the other hand…he needs to go and eat a sausage wrapper

Frequency · 20/08/2022 20:26

Mine has a penchant for food wrappers. No matter how far into the outside bin we push them he will find them and he will eat them.

We try to limit his wrapping consumption to one wrapper per week but he is determined. He particularly likes the small plastic bags his raw food comes in.

They pass through without issue usually within a day or two.

If we wrap your H in small plastic bags he might eat him for you too, if you want me to send him over?

Beachsidesunset · 20/08/2022 20:27

OP, you have bigger problems than a greedy whippet with a dicky tummy.

Fusillage · 20/08/2022 20:30

Your dog will be fine!! Mine (very young at the time) whipped two cocktail sticks off the floor. I wept and all sorts and then waited (it was fine and the advising vet said she would do the same thing). Get rid of the arsehole P tho.

mountainsunsets · 20/08/2022 20:32

The dog will be absolutely fine!

Your partner is a dickhead.

crazeekat · 20/08/2022 20:32

Your partner sounds like a bit of a sausage himself.
It is the dogs fault for eating it not yours, so stop stressing and tell ur partner to do one if he says it again.

Spanielsarepainless · 20/08/2022 20:32

My puppy has snatched full poo bags from two people's hands and they came through all right. Four days the first time, two the second. Am going to do a set up with some but sprinkled with chilli paste.
