Dressing gown in the afternoon

And no plans to get dressed. It's heaven but do feel an undertow of guilt.

I was supporting a family member with health issues this week and feel exhausted.

Ah enjoy it and don't feel guilty. Everybody needs some guilt-free me time

LaDamaDeElche · 20/08/2022 15:37

Don't feel guilty. In Spain more than half the population are in their PJs at all times at home. Some people even go out on the street in their dressing gowns to neighbours and I've seen people doing the food shop in them 😂

Mitsouko67 · 20/08/2022 15:42

It does mean dishes mounting up but will sort later and am getting lots of laundry done while reading Vanity Fair in the garden. Not many more summer days left.

It must be too hot in Spain these days to do anything.

We had a gorgeous au pair from Elche years ago.

Don't feel guilty at all. Relax and look after yourself.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2022 15:46

I've taken to wearing a 'house dress' at home sometimes, essentially a long, floaty dress which is basically like a dressing gown. I don't know why I didn't do it years ago!

Pinkcadillac · 20/08/2022 15:47

LaDamaDeElche that sounds very unusual for Spain! Do you live in an expat enclave?

knackeredagain · 20/08/2022 15:48

I’m still in mine, powering through loads of laundry and messing around online. I feel a bit slobby and will probably get dressed shortly but you aren’t alone OP.

Mitsouko67 · 20/08/2022 15:49

I'm obsessed with my lovely light M and S dressing gown and seasalt slippers (bargain in sale), don't know what I'd do without them !

Sounds like you are being very productive knackered!

I think I will think of today as a laundry day.

I wear pjs when home regardless of the time.

😂😂😂 No, my partner is Spanish and I live in an area with barely any English people - Elche.

Really? Is that a thing in Spain?
Looking at the media, you'd think it was just us lazy Brits!

balalake · 21/08/2022 10:37

Please shower regardless, have some self-respect and consideration for others in the house assuming you are not alone.

I think you'll find this pretty commonplace in the towns and villages. There was even a bar that banned locals from wearing dressing gowns there in Malaga. Normally the older generation on the street in dressing gowns, but most Spanish people I know from many different areas wear pjs if they're lounging around at home.

LaDamaDeElche · 21/08/2022 10:43

*Maireas" In the supermarkets not so much, but you do see people, more so in the colder months, shopping in dressing gowns and pjs. On the street you see people chatting in their dressing gown a lot where I live. When I first moved here I didn't own a dressing gown or slippers. My Spanish MIL couldn't believe it and bought me both straight away 😂

Blimey, what do you eat/sweat through your pores that you smell so bad, you have to consider other people in your house after less than a day? 😱

You poor thing, I feel for you but you have to remember it's not particularly normal for everyone to smell so strongly.

She's hardly going to kill everyone off with fumes because she's in her dressing gown, possibly unshowered fgs.

JustTheOneSwan · 21/08/2022 10:47

It's like armour against cat hairs in our house.
You only put outside clothes on as you're leaving armed with a sticky roller.

That's very interesting! I had no idea that it was the culture there. It sounds friendly and informal!

I saw a lady 20 ish getting a takeaway in her dressing gown last night (UK)

AlisonDonut · 21/08/2022 11:03

I now live in France and unless I am leaving the house for shopping or an appointment, I do most stuff in PJs. Not the ones I sleep in, I have different sets for different purposes.

Did she have slippers on, or shoes?
