Is it exciting going to the hospital and knowing that it's go-time?!

9pm
9pm
9 am
all three hour labours, I was very fortunate.

Iamnotaloggrip · 14/08/2022 22:20

With DS I was induced but contractions started about 4pm, he was born 6.30 the next morning. With DD I went into labour naturally…had a show about 12.30pm, MIL (here to look after DS) rang DP to come home from work about 3pm, then we left for the hospital about 4.30 - so right into rush hour. I remember having contractions in the car next to a van driver in the lane next to me! He looked at me a little strangely. I also remember scaring the life out of our plumber who was here looking at our boiler when I ran into him in the hall screaming at DP ‘we need to go to the hospital now’ 😂DD arrived 3am the next morning so no rush really. Don’t remember excitement tbh, just pain.

I was induced at 40+12 at 10:30am. By 3pm I was getting cramps, these very quickly ramped up and at 5pm I was in labour ward and I was 3cm dilated and I was having 3 or 4 contractions every 10 mins. I had an epidural at 8pm and kind of chilled out after that, it was all really quite calm and pleasant. However, at around midnight lots of activity started to happen as apparently DDs heart rate wasn't getting a chance to recover because I was having too many contractions and it was getting to a point that it was affecting her. So she arrived by emergency C section at 1:56am and we were back on labour ward around 2am :-).

I have 3 children and have only gone into labour naturally once.

ds1 - induced. Went in for monitoring for reduced movement and was advised to stay in for induction so has no idea when I went in that I’d be coming home with a baby! Went in Monday evening, he was born in the early hours on Wednesday morning.

ds2 - induced, again no idea I was going in to have the baby. Went for a sweep as was overdue and they asked me how his movements had been, I’d been rushing around and not really felt much that day so was sent for monitoring and as I was so overdue they advised induction. Upon examination I was already 4cm so all they had to do was break my waters and he was born 1.5 hours later at 7.40pm.

DD - I was about to go to bed at about 10.30pm, rolled myself off the sofa and my waters went in a big gush. Nearly had a heart attack as it was so unexpected. I was 39 weeks and fully expected to go 2 weeks over again and thought I’d at least have some inclination when it was about to start but apparently not! Contractions started a few hours later. Baby DD born at 9am.

MintJulia · 14/08/2022 22:33

10am Saturday, I started with twinges in my lower back. They ramped up slowly through Saturday, I called the maternity unit Saturday evening to let them know. They told me to try to get some sleep and to go in when they were 5 mins apart and/or getting hard to talk through.

I drove in Sunday afternoon, they checked me over and said I had time to go and get a pub supper 😂which worried me slightly although Ex was very keen . I went to the loo before heading out, and my waters broke. Then I couldn't speak, never mind eat chicken and chips. DS finally arrived after a fair bit of help, at 7.50am Monday.

I was absolutely shattered. Not doing that again !

Longdistance · 14/08/2022 22:33

9pm Thursday, arrived 4.20am Friday, quicker than the MW thought ‘oh, you’ll be here until lunchtime’ 🙄 nope.
2pm Sunday, arrived 5pm Sunday. We were home by midnight for a bbq in the garden and a drink 🍾

mindutopia · 14/08/2022 22:39

With dc1 it was 2:30am (waters broke first), she was born at 1pm.

With dc2, it was 6am and he was born at 3pm.

Both born at home so never been to hospital. I can’t actually say it was exciting. 😬 With dc1 it felt like a very surreal and foreign experience as I didn’t know what to expect. With dc2, I just got on with it, laboured mostly alone with Dh downstairs with eldest, midwife arrived about 50 minutes before he was born, so very peaceful.

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2022 22:39

DC1 - first contraction 03:15, baby arrived 00:10 the following morning.

DC2 - had niggles for a few hours, but first proper contractions started around lunchtime and he arrived at 01:20 next day.

DC3 - niggles all the previous day, but a definite contraction about 03:00 and he was here just before 08:00.

When I woke, about 7:00 am I realised my waters had broken. But it was men's final day at Wimbledon (Rosewall and Newcome, I think) the final went to five sets. Went to hospital afterwards and baby born at 9:50pm

Chattydoll · 14/08/2022 22:45

Dd labour started around 11pm and she was born at 10.30am (according to my midwife I wasn’t in active labour until around 9.30am so the last hour went fast.)

Ds I had my first twinge at 8.30am and he was born at 10.10am - We just made it to the hospital as I was convinced I had more time.

Lilbunnyfufu · 14/08/2022 22:45

All 3 labours have been in the morning and all 3 born before noon.

Hohofortherobbers · 14/08/2022 22:52

Dc1 went to hospital at 2am, she arrived at midday after a very extended 4 hour pushing phase from 8am. Dc2 went to hospital 10pm, 8cm dilated on arrival!! He finally arrived at 10:30am by forceps. I'm not very good at labour. Confused

Woke up about 6am on Thursday having contractions she wasn't born till 6am Saturday morning went into hospital on the Friday were going to send us home as wasn't very dilated. Eventually broke my waters and that progressed things

Veryverycalmnow · 14/08/2022 23:06

Started labour around 4am. Used tens machine at home. By 4pm we were on way to hospital, I was 10cm when we arrived, Ds not born til 3am. I was so excited before and elated when he finally came out. Take earplugs and eye mask is my advice because I hated hearing everyone else's (and my) baby crying and other people's conversations while you just need to rest. Everyone popping in saying, 'you get some rest' and I was like, 'I'm trying to!' That bit I was not prepared for!
Good luck.

TheTeddyBears · 15/08/2022 08:44

First I was enduced, second my waters broke as I was attempting to get comfy I was 37+4 it was about 11.30pm. For me it was a little excitement but also anxious as I was supposed to be having a planned c section and contractions started 10mins later and very painful right from the off. Tried to stay at home until morning but only lasted until 2am. Also had to wake my parents in middle of night to drop off toddler baby was born at 11am thankfully by section but that labour was so bad for the 11hrs I endured without pain relief.

OhAmBackAgain · 15/08/2022 08:49

DC1 7am started with mild contractions, went to hospital about 11am ish
born 7.15pm

DC2 very light sporadict contractions from about 9am throughout the the day. went to hospital 10pm was born 3.05am

ShantayYouStay · 15/08/2022 17:32

Waters broke at 10pm, contractions started around 11pm - had my baby just before 3.30am the next day :)

lilroo87 · 15/08/2022 17:37

Was woken at 3am, thought I just needed a wee but quickly realised it was contractions and by 10am my DD was born.
Hospital is an hour from me so it was a pretty tough journey and then labour with no pain relief was also pretty intense. Pushing the head out was the worst part for me but then I had my beautiful baby in my arms and I didn't care

Crunchymum · 15/08/2022 17:48

DC1: about 7pm on the Sunday night (DC arrived at 1am on the Wednesday)
