Travel post-concert at Wembley Stadium?

I’m taking DD (11) to the Foo Fighters gig in a few weeks. I’m a seasoned London traveller having lived there several years ago, but never been to Wembley and obviously protective of DD.

We live in Wales so I’m looking to book a cheap hotel somewhere along the M4 as we need to get back home sharpish on the Sunday. DH will take the car there and then I’ll need to get DD and myself there on public transport after the gig. Is Heathrow the best option? How well Organised are the tube stations post-gig? Does Wembley have a 10:30pm curfew at weeekends?

any hints and tricks appreciated!

We went to Coldplay last night. We parked at High Wycombe and then it's just 3 stops in on the train. The return trains run frequently and until after 12. Easy

Purpleavocado · 14/08/2022 15:36

We get to the tube as quickly as possible as we have to then get a train, which gets packed. We get ready to leave and out as soon as the doors open then walk fast / jog to the tube.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 15:38

Which train station did you go to? Did you not have to use the tube at all?

I thin

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 15:39

My daughter has had foot surgery so won’t be running anywhere. Maybe we’ll have to wait out the crush somewhere.

Is it easier to stay near the stadium, theres a premier inn 5 mins away and near wembley stadium station. What station are you travelling from.

Cookerhood · 14/08/2022 15:44

You need to be somewhere along the m40 - the Chiltern line, not the M4. Easy journey to Wembley on the train from places like west Ruislip, Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe etc. Or a convenient tube line. I think anywhere along the m4 would mean a journey into London & put again to Wembley (quite prepared to be wrong though).
Don't know about curfews I'm afraid.

Cookerhood · 14/08/2022 15:46

Or Wembley of course

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 15:48

That’s my question. We’re travelling back from France the morning of the concert.

Hotels near Wembley are £££s or fully booked.

We’ll need to be on the M4 on the Sunday, hence looking at Piccadilly line to a hotel near Heathrow.

M4 J8/9 along the a404 towards Marlow/high Wycombe and onto J4 of the M40 runs straight into A40 so anywhere along there. Trains run to Wembley central from the Beaconsfield line. Or high Wycombe as pp said.
You could park at Hillingdon tube or south Ruislip and work out a way in from there on the tube.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 15:54

Won’t need to park because DH will keep the car with him. Need a hotel in walking distance from the train station though.

This has given me some options to look into. Thank you.

High Wycombe to Wembley Stadium station is 3 stops on the train line. No tube

MySleevesMayBeGreen · 14/08/2022 15:56

Gerrards Cross, Denham, Beaconsfield etc are all really easy to get to the M4 from.
There’s a hotel at Beaconsfield Services and you can walk to the station from there and get a cab back when it’s dark.
The last train from Marylebone was 00:10 when I went to the o2 the other week so you should be fine to get back fro, Wembley.
There’s also The Bull Hotel and Crowne Plaza near to GX but I don’t know how expensive they are.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 16:02

Tube to Marylebone though?

We're very popular as a parking spot for friends going to Wembley concerts at the moment. If you park at Chorleywood or Rickmansworth station, it's about £5-6 and loads of spaces.

Then 30 minutes and £4 odd on the Met line to Wembley Park. Both CW and Rickmansworth are on the M25 and it's a couple of junctions to the M4. There's a new Premier Inn in Rickmansworth or loads of hotels a 10-15 minute drive away in Watford (also on the Met Line and M25).

We went to Coldplay last night. Think it finished at about 10.40ish last night, we left at 10.30pm to get out the car park early. In fairness there were a lot of road closures for pedestrians etc and it seemed fairly well organised.

Is it worth looking at National Express to see if you can get back to Wales that evening? We did that last time, and the coach parks are right next to the stadium.

MySleevesMayBeGreen · 14/08/2022 16:06

Sorry wasn’t clear, , Marylebone is where the train starts that will get you from Wembley, I did get a tube to Marylebone but you won’t need to!

Download the Chiltern Railways app, some of the trains are fast ones and don’t stop at all the stations,

2anddone · 14/08/2022 16:08

We park at Stanmore and get the tube in, at the end of the night it's fab as most people are heading the opposite way!

Nadal · 14/08/2022 16:08

Coaches are excellent at Wembley.

We’re stopping in London on the way back from a self-drive holiday in France. Will have a car to get us back to Wales the next day. :)

DH not coming to the concert so will drive to the hotel and stay there.

We stayed at the premium inn at Wembley station. It was an ace location but we got caught up in the crowd going into Wembley station. Steps were shut off so couldn’t access any way other than waiting our turn. It was very well organised.

I sat outside the premier inn having a drink and the queues were long to get into the station.

This was 2019.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 16:45

That’s fully booked so we won’t be staying there. Also need somewhere to park the car.

OP posts:
MySleevesMayBeGreen · 14/08/2022 16:54

You can park in some of the stations, although I never do so no idea of the cost.
There’s residential roads around the stations, some of the bays (which are residents only in the mornings to deter all day parking) are fine after 12pm to be there all day.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/08/2022 16:59

I doubt DH will want to sit in a station car park all day/night.

I’ll check out hotels along the Chiltern line from Wembley. That way we can get out of London quickly and DH can chill in the hotel with the car.
