Meteors galore!

JuneOsborne · 12/08/2022 23:26

Just been out stargazing to see if we can see any of the meteors and there's so many! I have never seen one before, but in 40 minutes I've seen a dozen!

If you're up, too hot and fed up, get out and look up. Really puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Although, that might be the wine. Smile

Also been out too and saw 8 in about 30mins. Amazing.

wohmum · 12/08/2022 23:29

Whereabouts are you to see them?

Dotcheck · 12/08/2022 23:29

Are you using binos or anything?

JuneOsborne · 12/08/2022 23:34

No! Naked eye. Super outing but less than 4 miles from Birmingham city centre. Honestly amazing.

Currently in Peterborough but fairly rural part I think so not much light. I’ve seen them this good in Somerset once but tonight was amazing. No binoculars

Horcruxe · 12/08/2022 23:36

I saw one

My neightbours have got their security night on, which makes it difficult. Hoping they'll turn it off,.but now I'm not sure if they keep it on all night . I've never really noticed it before.

FrazzledFirefly · 12/08/2022 23:38

I've just seen one. Surrey

bloodywhitecat · 12/08/2022 23:40

Thank you for this, just seen a couple while leaning out of the bedroom window. The moon is too bright at the back of the house but I can see them in the sky above the bedroom.

DappledThings · 12/08/2022 23:42

On holiday in Somerset and I just saw the biggest and clearest one I've ever seen. It was brilliant.

Sleepyafternoonsinthesun · 12/08/2022 23:44

We've no light pollution at all, but the moon is so bright that it's hard to see the stars, never mind the meteor shower.

JuneOsborne · 12/08/2022 23:48

Ah, the super moon, aka the sturgeon moon. It's a sight to behold.

The sky is clear here and I can see lots of stars but no meteors so far. I'm in West Yorkshire up by the moors.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/08/2022 23:50

Which direction are you looking?

mummalog · 12/08/2022 23:50

I'm in Rotherham seen quite a few, really bright too!

I have no idea! Am I supposed to look in a certain direction? Blush

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/08/2022 23:50

Which direction are you looking?

North East is supposed to be best

BackAffYaSpookyBint · 12/08/2022 23:53

Aww, I'm in NE Scotland on the coast. We have a low level haar (sea-mist) over head so all I can see is a strange pulsing light being reflected by the haar!
Gutted can't see meteors, but it is what it is!

Haggisfish3 · 12/08/2022 23:54

Here you go! Use compass on phone to find direction

Meteors galore!

Thank you!

I've been out for the last 3 nights and saw two yesterday but only one tonight!

We're at the caravan in a very rural area with no light pollution and can see thousands of stars so am a bit gutted to see hardly any meteors.

Have you tried lying on a blanket? Look up and shift your gaze like you're looking at a magic eye picture.
I saw the Perseids last year this way. I'm at work tonight and there's too much light pollution.

Raquelos · 13/08/2022 00:03

Ooooh in South London zone 3 and even here we saw 4 in the last 50 minutes. Nice and cool too (bliss) on the sunbeds in the back garden with a glass of wine. Yay I have never actually seen a shooting star before so quite exciting!!

confusedlots · 13/08/2022 00:07

Really clear here tonight and can see lots of stars but no meteors unfortunately.

Thecomfortador · 13/08/2022 00:16

Seen quite a few maybe in 20 mins out in our back garden ( not helpful on direction - looking upwards?!). Very small patch of sky. Moon also impressive. Suburbs of northern city. A few bats floating around as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2022 00:22

I've seen a few, lots of satellites, a bat, and my cat charging crazily around. The moon is so bright tonight!
