Do you say fizzy drink or juice?

My husband says juice to refer to sodas. I had only ever heard people use the word juice to refer to fruit juice.

He says it depends on where you live.

What do you say?

In Scotland everything is juice except water and milk

DeanStockwelll · 12/08/2022 22:35

Umm fizzy drink if its a fizzy ( soft ) drink
Fruit juice it is pure fruit juice, the type you get in a Tetra Pak carton or bottle and cordial if its a concentrate that I would add water to
I can't really see why anyone would describe them any other different way

Blueberrycreampie · 12/08/2022 22:36

So fizzy drinks, squash or fruit juice all have the same name - juice! Sometimes it's fizzy juice to distinguish between but mostly not.

No idea why it baffled me when I first moved here and now DS1 baffles grandparents when he asks for juice and they give him apple and he says no red juice (meaning squash!)

Redpanda99 · 12/08/2022 22:39

I'm Scottish and I call fizzy drinks fizzy drinks.
Juice is fruit juice or squash.
Squash is squash.

I've never known fizz to he called juice.
