Sheewee for festival

MissMarplesNiece · 09/08/2022 22:22

I'm going to a festival & will be camping with DH. In the early hour every night, I have to get up for the loo. The thought of traipsing across a small, very dark campsite, risking tripping over other people's guy ropes because tents will be so close together fills me with dread. I have been wondering about a sheewee type device (I could maybe just nip behind the tent to use it) or whether to buy some of those Tena pads that my mum uses, to sleep in.

Please share any experiences/opinions/ideas about sheewees or pads while camping. Also its a bit late now to buy off Amazon so where else could I get a sheewee?

The only person I know who has used a shewee regretted it instantly. She said the flow of her wee was clearly too much and it didn't flow out of the bottom as its supposed to, instead it came out the top and completely covered her in pee. Perhaps user error, but she would have been better off squatting behind a bush.
I have considered getting one a few times, but I've always found it pretty easy to hide behind a tree etc.

I used a shewee for the first time last weekend when I was camping.

I only practised once in the toilet at home which turned out to be a mistake as it went all over my jeans when I tried it for the first time outside.

So I’d recommend practising a few times over the toilet at home before you dare do it outside with clothes on! Although maybe I’m just an eejit

You can not wear a Tena pants and purposely piss yourself that's ludicrous. Look at portable camping toilets or use a torch to use the loo in the night

We are just back from a festival and it was tents as far as the eye could see- as quick to walk to the toilet block as find somewhere to pee (assuming you don't want to pee on someone's tent). I will consider a sheewee to be able to use the urinals and not have to queue for the loos next time though.

Orangesare · 09/08/2022 22:35

Just take a few size 5 nappies and pee into one of those.

travailtotravel · 09/08/2022 22:38

You can get bag things to wee in, they're better. There are crystals in it that solidify. Cant remember the name...

MiniDinosaur · 09/08/2022 22:38

take a bog in a bag, genius invention, and use it inside your tent.

SunshineThelma · 09/08/2022 22:39

As others have said, I'd you get a shewee you need to practice beforehand and crucially not just wait until you're absolutely busting to use it, it'll overflow. I have one, but despite several rounds of practicing at different times in the last few years at home, I've never managed to get confident enough to use it 'for real'.

YesJess · 09/08/2022 22:40

Use a potty in the tent?

YesJess · 09/08/2022 22:40

Also wondering if there's a market for the YouPoo. 🤔

CatLadyDrinksGin · 09/08/2022 22:41

Get a shewee and practice in the shower!

I agree - you can get these bags from Amazon. They are brilliant as you just do what you need to do, the crystals absorb the moisture, and then you just need to drop it in the bin the next morning. I used to use them when camping a lot as I need to pee a couple of times a night (we've got a motor home now).

SkankingWombat · 09/08/2022 22:44

It definitely takes practice at home starting well before it is needed 'in the wild'! First try at home naked from the waist down (might even be worth trying in the shower first if you think it might go wrong and don't fancy mopping up puddles of wee...). Once you've cracked that, move on to using it with just knickers on, then finally trousers too.
It does take some getting used to especially accurate positioning, as keeping it square to your body whilst also maneuvering around fabric (your pants) is tricky. You can buy special women's Y-fronts to get around this problem, but I haven't tried them. You may also need to train your body to release whilst standing, as it can feel like that goes against everything you've ever known and is just plain wrong at first. Like you are knowingly about to wet yourself!

I've got a shewee and I've practiced using it in the shower, it's very hit and miss - sometimes it works great, other times It runs down my leg. I don't use it when out hiking as it's just not reliable.
When camping, I take some commode pads (same sort of thing as bog in a bag but much cheaper) and binliners for emergencies.

MissMarplesNiece · 09/08/2022 22:46

Bog on a bag looks quite good. They sell them in Argos too so I could easily pick one up.

I use mine all the time when hiking/camping. Brilliant, but practice in the shower first!

Thatboymum · 09/08/2022 22:49

I used to take a sheewee out in the lorry for when we weren’t parked up at toilets, mine didn’t have a bottle attached it was literaly just the silicone shape that moulded to my vag and a pipe that looked like a Willy and I could literally piss like a man everywhere and anywhere with no worry’s about overflowing etc it was £10 and it was worth every penny 🤣

Lifeadmin · 09/08/2022 22:59

I used my shee wee in lockdown when public toilets were shut, and I was visiting DC but not allowed inside their house.
Stand in shed for privacy, get shewee out , wee into an empty milk bottle, pour wee down drain, rinse bottle in outside tap. Job done. It was a definitely great,
I can even turn my car into a moving facility by clever draping of sheets for privacy, then get into back seat to use shewee into milk bottle. Cap on milk bottle so that wee can disposed of hygienically when convenient.
don’t need it so much now but in lockdown, when visiting DC hours away from home it made a visit possible.. of course if I’d been PM I wouldn’t have bothered with the rules.

I bought a Shewee for a safari holiday in May, having been unhappy squatting behind bushes full of insects and potential snakes on a previous trip. I practiced at home, mostly got the hang of it, but it is made of hard plastic and I nicked myself (the important bit of using it effectively is to make sure the back part is right up against you, very close to the perineum). Then a helpful Mumsnetter on my similar thread. Recommended this little beauty. It’s thick, soft, flexible plastic and extremely comfortable. Other women on the trip were envious and one ordered her own after getting home!

Just make sure you practice at home. Naked in the shower at first, then at the loo. And hold it against you at the back at all time. I needed no real practice with this one though.

demotedreally · 09/08/2022 23:15

I love my sheewee. Saves getting wee on legs and shoes. I only practiced once and been fine since. It isn't always difficult.

DenholmElliot1 · 09/08/2022 23:17

I would just use tena pull up pants

marmiteloversunite · 09/08/2022 23:21

Look at Travel Jane. Very useful for overnight camping trips.

whatever1980 · 09/08/2022 23:27

We got this in lockdown - a lot of money for but of plastic but works in car and for camping - just out bag in with stuff that crystallises. Was camping at weekend and a few people had those pop up loo/shower tents next to their tent

I’m finding it very hard to believe that anyone would consider pissing in an adult nappy an acceptable alternative to going to the toilet in the dark Hmm
