Need a bit of pushing from you lot. It's Sunday night and here I am yet again disgusted with myself and determined to do better next week. I've smoked way too much, downed too much booze, ate crap and have just generally been a twat all weekend. I was doing well earlier this year but let some stress get to me over the past couple of months.

I want to stay OFF the fags next week, drink water, eat healthier and do loads of walking. Active, healthy and positive.

Tell me to put down the dirty fire, be good to myself and convince me I can do this!! 🚭

You can do it! So can I, I hope!

AmbushedByCake1 · 07/08/2022 22:41

Take one step at a time. Small steps otherwise trying to change loads of stuff all in one go is not feasible. So pick one thing for your first week like walking every day and see how you get on.

ItWasJustifiedHeWasACunt · 07/08/2022 22:46

It's the fags that bother me the most. I hate them. The irresistible little bastards 😫

That’s a lot for one wwwk, you’re setting yourself up to fail. Why not tackle the fags this week?

ItWasJustifiedHeWasACunt · 07/08/2022 22:53

Yep I've downloaded the app

I stayed off the booze for the first few weeks of giving up smoking. Had a vape handy (but rarely used) for the first few times I drank alcohol again.

If you really want to give up smoking, you can. Just don't have the next fag you want.

Good luck. You've got this.

Probably asking a daft question here, but have you tried any form of vaping? I smoked 30 a day for 25 years and finally gave up this year with the use of vapes. It’s still nicotine initially, but it’s a start and I’m now nicotine free.

As pp said, tackle one thing at a time. You’ll get there, just don’t do too much in one go! Feel proud of yourself for dealing with one thing, it will give you the impetus to tackle the other things. Good luck!

Jar of water. Smoke your last fag. Put it in the jar. Sniff deeply from the jar each time you want to smoke, You'll want to puke.
Alan Carr method I think.

Oooooo! This is disgusting... I like it!

Re smoking, Google ‘Allen Carr free’ and download either the audiobook or the PDF. If you can afford it, sign up for one of the sessions, but the free stuff also works really well. Completely changed my life.

Good luck!

FullBush · 07/08/2022 23:31

Aren’t cigarettes about £14ish a pack now? So approx £420 per month if you smoke a pack a day. How does anyone even afford to smoke these days?!

Smokers absolutely stink as well and no amount of teeth brushing, hand washing minty sweets and air freshener will cover up the stench.

2 members of my family died from COPD, it’s a HORRIBLE way to die.

MrsSales · 07/08/2022 23:34

Me and dh smoked ALOT

He went cold turkey and was fine

I’ve started vaping

started on 12mg and now I’m down to 6 we’ve just been on a big busy holiday and the only time I had to vape was late in evenings and it’s really worked and now I’m home starting to try and reduce my vaping

go to your local vape shops lots around every high street but a decent vape around 20£ then see how you go!

one thing at a time I say!

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 07/08/2022 23:36

After years of swearing every Monday to give up fags booze junk food and walk 490 miles a day, a few weeks ago I decided to tackle one thing at a time. So I stopped smoking first and said to myself I can eat what I want etc and only worry about that. 4 weeks later still off them. Longest I’ve ever gone. And I also haven’t really had much booze as I didn’t want to want to smoke!

tomorrow i start trying to do some exercise every day.

Electriq · 07/08/2022 23:36

Contact NHS Stop Smoking in your area, they will contact you same day, give you support, information and ways to give up.

I did it 2 years ago, good luck.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 07/08/2022 23:37

Like a pp I have a vape thing for emergencies but only really used the couple of times I had a drink.

Homewardbound2022 · 07/08/2022 23:46

Try to break the connections.
So, if you reach for a ciggie with your 10am coffee, stop the 10am coffee.
Apparently it takes 21 days to break a habit.
Good luck.

KumquatQuince · 07/08/2022 23:48

You’re trying to change too much in one go. Ain’t gonna happen. One thing at a time! (Start with the fags)

Wineat5isfine · 07/08/2022 23:52

I swapped to a vape about 6 months ago. 12mg, down to 6mg a month ago. Now dropping again.

Definitely worth looking into - it does help!

This is what l do.

Even if l just drink water instead of diet coke or tea.

Baby steps op.

Booyakkasha · 07/08/2022 23:54

You sound like great fun tbh 🤣this was my previous life until around 5 years ago, now I’m quite a boring bastard who doesn’t drink, smoke, drink coffee etc 🤷🏻‍♀️Not sure what happened..but..yes, I’d definitely try to give up if you can, I loved smoking (only the odd one with a drink) but I still think of the old me as a different person, I can’t ever imagine myself smoking now, seems so weird
I gave up because I was trying to conceive but also because I kept thinking about my health and wanting to be around as long as possible…which annoyed me too as I just wanted to be able to enjoy the damn things 🤣but I couldn’t in the end
Good luck

Hawkins001 · 07/08/2022 23:58

You need commitment, focus, and shear will power, each and every day, each and every hour, to achieve your goals, all the best op.

CPL593H · 08/08/2022 00:01

Seriously, vaping is the answer I think, to at least one of the issues. Recommended by a medic who said that although we don't know all the long term effects yet, they are unlikely to be anything like smoking, ie lethal.

I smoked between the ages of 15-49 and 40 + a day for most of that. Smoked every day, including with pleurisy. Tried vaping 10 years ago and have not had a cigarette since and have not wanted one.

It also costs a small fraction of what smoking does, so another plus. Will take my convert zeal away now Grin

AnomalousChallenge · 08/08/2022 00:06

Also recommending Alan Carr the easy way to quit smoking. I read the book and gave up for good. It was an effort at first but not for as long as I thought it would be. So grateful now (years later). Good luck.

Neverendingdust · 08/08/2022 00:09

I don’t smoke, I don’t drink and I eat healthily. I feel fantastic for it, I have a healthy glow, I’m slim and I don’t ever feel rough or hungover, I have no mood swings either.

Let my gloating be that forceful push you need. You’ll love yourself for doing it. Once you’ve done it you’re going to be in a great place.

Believe me, those changes will seem like impossible challenges but once you’ve conquered them my god will you be smug as fuck!

ChickenBurgers · 08/08/2022 00:09

Oh this is sooooooo me. Sending strong willpower vibes your way, you’ve got this!!
