You’re making a birthday card for someone with their young baby (who doesn’t speak yet so can’t give their opinions!)

The mum is American so uses Mommy
They live in a country where it is Mør
The person making the card and child’s father is English (and he would write mum) so use Mummy

How would you address the card?

there’s a pack of salted liquorice in it for anyone who votes my way (which is really a punishment because it’s grim)

Mommy

GnomeyGnome · 06/08/2022 22:01

Mommy.. if that's how she refers to herself.

stairgates · 06/08/2022 22:01

Maybe use their name? I'm a bit confused is the card from the baby?

catmg · 06/08/2022 22:02

Why would you write any variant of mum anyway if it's a card for the baby? You write 'to baby name happy birthday from your name'

Unless what you're saying is you're writing a card from the baby tothe mum. In which case ask the dad or someone else how she refers to herself, and write that

Salted licorice? Finland by any chance? 🤢

Liebig · 06/08/2022 22:03

Uterus owner.

Iamthewombat · 06/08/2022 22:04

Don’t use mommy! It’s too Pamela Anderson for words. No.

Iamthewombat · 06/08/2022 22:05

And, the stupidest debate ever is ‘who is the hardest womble’.

"To Mater, life giver, gaia in human form" would be my preference.

Denmark!

My SIL is Finnish and absolutely loves it and limits it as a treat so she doesn’t eat loads. I am mind blown that anyone thinks it’s an acceptable treat!

Card is from child to mum, she’s never actually expressed an actual desire in what to be called just once said “it’s funny, I’m obviously Mommy but DH calls me mummy and the HV called me Mør”

Surely they've had the conversation about what she's called to the child? When a friend has a grandchild I ask who they are eg grandma/nana etc. That's the name used.

EmmaC78 · 06/08/2022 22:17

Mommy

yonce · 06/08/2022 22:20

I'd probably go with mummy as the person writing it would naturally use that, and if mør is the country norm then that would be my second choice, but I'm biased I hate mommy and mom - I love salted liquorice 😂

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 06/08/2022 22:21

Mommy.

We have this in our family.

I say Mammy.
DH says Mommy.
The people we live amongst say Mummy.

My dc call me Mammy.

My dh will say 'pass this to Mommy'

The dc will say 'my mum' when talking about me to their friends but would never in a million years call me Mum as it's not my name.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 06/08/2022 22:22

I'm biased I hate mommy and mom
I hate Mummy/mum. Especially Mum.

NeverHadANickname · 06/08/2022 22:26

Go with the preference of the person who will receive the card, so Mommy.

AugmentedToast · 06/08/2022 22:29

Aw now I want some salted liquorice, it’s yummy
