Coldplay at Wembley - timings

VanCleefArpels · 06/08/2022 07:36

going to Wembley to see Coldplay next week, never been to a gig at a stadium before. It says doors open at 5pm - what time (ish) are they likely to get on stage? Need to think about transport timings!

Ooh I am going too! No help on timings though sorry so watching with interest.

I am going by myself and hope I am not going to feel awkward. Do people go to concerts by themselves or am I going to be the only person Blush.

Am also middle aged and don’t know if I am going to seem out of place.

Thanks for starting the thread 😊.

Stadium gigs usually have a curfew of around 23:00.
depending on how many support acts there are, I’d expect Coldplay to be on around 20:30-:21:00 and be off between 22:30-23:00, usually the earlier as the venues get in a lot of trouble for every minute over curfew.
I’m very jealous! One of the best bands I’ve ever seen for their live shows!

BendingSpoons · 06/08/2022 08:16

I was going to say the same as HappyPie olus there is often a support act from around 7.30, sometimes earlier. My parents are going next week and looking forward to it!

@Questionaboutjoboffer we are taking our 20 something children so definitely in (beyond!) the middle age zone. I suspect we won’t be alone 😉

@HappyPie82 brilliant thank you - end time is stated to be 2230. There’s just one warm up I think.

m my thought is to plan to be there by 7pm latest to give time for entry, drinks etc

Why not be there shortly afterwards to see the support acts as well? Say about 6-6.30pm. Miss the opening rush.

I have consciously uncoupled myself from listening to them, but hope you enjoy it.

MumofSpud · 06/08/2022 08:32

I was at best indifferent to Coldplay when my DH dragged me to see them - at Wembley too!
They really were amazing! I had to change my mind!
Enjoy

When I saw them full of people of all ages - lots 40+ and multi generational groups / families!
Also people by themselves!

VanCleefArpels · 06/08/2022 08:35

@balalake yes I’m with you but it’s a very long (and likely hot) time to stand up!!

Thanks @VanCleefArpels (when I first read 20 something I thought you were going with 20 kids so definitely not alone Grin) and @MumofSpud - I feel reassured re the age factor and going alone.

I am still going to feel self-conscious being by myself but want to see them play more so going wins. I listened to them throughout the lockdowns (and watched their online home concerts - first Chris Martin on his own and then the band as a whole when they could) having hardly paid them attention before - and they are one of the things which helped get me through - as weird as that sounds. I hope they play their older music as well.

I realise I am going the week after next - the concert that got moved from the 19th to the 21st.

I hope you and your family have a great time @VanCleefArpels.

So after a lot of googling I’ve found out they are on stage for 2 hours or so on this tour. Given the tickets say it ends at 10.30 I’m going to say 8pm start to give a bit of wriggle room so my aim to get there by 7 sounds about right. Now all I need to do is work out driving time (we have pre booked parking) in the evenings

@VanCleefArpels Glad I can across this. I'm planning on arriving around the same time as 5pm is a bit early and we have seats. I guess it's fine to go in around 7. Also I've never used prebooked parking and looking at the options....so by pre-booking a space I assume will be allocated? don't want to rock up later and find its full and overbooked! Might look at those who rent drives close by as an alternative. Excited!

I would imagine everyone will be middle aged at a coldplay gig!

annabell22 · 13/08/2022 05:17

DH is 58 and he's going by himself next Saturday. I was once dragged to Frankfurt to accompany him to a Coldplay concert so I'm glad he's finally got the message that I'd rather stick pins in my eyes.

Good to know there will be at least one other person on their own!! I just hope I am not next to a big group who have come together, looking awkward (me that is, not them)!

Well Chris Martin is 45 so I would doubt his fans are exclusively 15 year olds.

Horsemad · 13/08/2022 06:54

I went last night, it was AMAZING! Huge age range from 7-70, seriously!!

Mumski45 · 13/08/2022 07:09

Going tonight with DH and 2 teenage DS. So excited but really worried about travel bearing in mind there are rail strikes on today. 😔

Darbs76 · 13/08/2022 07:13

Allow more time than usual to get there and don’t drive! Made that mistake once and the traffic was backed up for miles and miles and we missed the support act completely

VanCleefArpels · 13/08/2022 08:02

Well readers it was quite magical. We drove, had pre booked parking, it was a nightmare (took 2.5 hrs, journey home took just over an hour!). They came on at 8.25 though so didn’t miss a thing! Drinks criminally expensive

chatterbug22 · 14/08/2022 21:30

@VanCleefArpels was it worth every penny? Tickets are extremely expensive but I bet it’s unforgettable.

VanCleefArpels · 14/08/2022 22:41

yes one of the best experiences I’ve ever had

secretfreckle · 15/08/2022 00:43

I also went last night. It was my first time seeing them, but after the last two years of COVID and turning 50 this year, I decided I didn't care about the cost and was going to see them, no matter what!
Two support acts (Griff and HER). Doors 5 pm, Griff 6.15 pm, HER 7.10 pm, Coldplay 8.30 pm. They played until nearly 11 pm and Chris Martin seemed to be having the absolute time of his life; it was worth every penny.
All age groups from kids to grandparents. Lots of teenagers, so not just middle aged people!
Being in a huge group of people and sharing the light show and their music was magical. Lots of people crying near us! It was an unforgettable experience, one of the best nights of my life.
Some people on their own (we sold one of our tickets as husband double booked himself, so the buyer was next to us and someone else on their own in front of us).
We paid for a parking space on someone's driveway 15 mins walk away. It worked out really well, but took over an hour to drive the last mile on the way in.
Food and drink SO expensive! £32 for two cokes and 2 chicken and chips. There are water stations for people to fill bottles (big queues as obviously was 33 degrees yesterday).
If you are going this week, you are in for a treat. I wish I was going again!

secretfreckle · 15/08/2022 00:46

Forgot to say, great special guest, but I won't say who in case people haven't heard!
