Red Thai Curry. And I can confidently state that from my vast experience of CB meals (2...the red and the green Thai curry).

It's flipping amazing.

But state your case if you have a contender.

I like coq au vin with Waitrose red cabbage.

Makes me laugh when it says 'serves 2'.
No, no they don't 😂

WeAreTheHeroes · 06/08/2022 10:35

They absolutely do - very many people have lost sight of portion control.

Fish pie for me, but you do need to add lots of veg on the side to make half one of their two person boxes feel like a full meal. Which is probably as it should be.

I don't know anyone who it serves 2 for
I buy 2 meals for 3 peaple and pad it out with veg or sadads and bread

Nah, definitely not enough to serve two - unless you're also cooking lots of side dishes too

BestIsWest · 06/08/2022 10:57

The sticky toffee pudding is divine.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 06/08/2022 10:57

We used to like the thai red curry but they are now selling at nearly £9 which is extortionate so we’ve stopped buying them. There are plenty of other nice meals that cost a lot less.

Yes, yes they do!

One CB meal for two is 100% enough for me and DH! We usually have them when we are on holiday so I don’t have to cook proper meals.

Yay! My MN bingo card is full

Hmm

Jalfrezi for me but until I went to Waitrose I didn't know the extent of the range. Best eaten when there is a price reduction. Puddings are good as well.

ErmineAndPearls · 06/08/2022 13:23

Macaroni cheese, pasta and meatballs here. Haven’t tried many others. Too expensive because deep down, I know I could make either dish for £2.50. They serve 2 here, but with a “massive salad”.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/08/2022 13:46

Pop into Waitrose just before closing and you can get a CB bargain. I bought a few the other week for £3 … they freeze well even the ones that say don’t freeze.

Pedallleur · 06/08/2022 14:49

Have had them as cheap as 1.20. We're a load in a Waitrose the other day at a £1 off but I was just passing. I would never pay full price.

BorgQueen · 06/08/2022 16:52

The mark up on them must be enormous. DH currently doing contracting in a food factory that produces the ‘best’, ‘extra special’ ‘luxury’ ranges etc. He is able to use the staff shop and stuff that is a fiver in supermarkets is between 80p - £1. Luxury individual pies that would be £2.50 are 30p. My freezer is full to bursting and he has another month yet.
I find Iceland very good on their ‘luxury’ range, although the once excellent fish pie barely has fish in it any more.

palygold · 06/08/2022 16:59

I wasn't impressed (the red Thai) but my DC liked it a lot. Quality seems ok.

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/08/2022 16:19

@BorgQueen - the USP for Charlie Bighams is that everything in them is fresh, not frozen so that automatically puts costs up as they're likely to have more wastage. There are a few suppliers who make for the major supermarkets so they produce things on a much bigger scale and have greater economies of scale.
