Hot or cold custard

SuperlativeOxymoron · 02/08/2022 22:59

DH and I are having a late night pud with a glass of red and while dishing up have got into the debate of hot or cold custard with a warm pudding (we have syrup sponge if that sways anyone)

I'm a big fan of cold custard with warm puddings (sponge, crumble etc) but DH prefers his warm. Obviously I can portion it out and heat his while keeping mine cold, but who is right?

Is custard better hot or cold?

Cold. Can't be bothered to heat it when I could be eating it. I'd eat yours OP and he can heat his own if he wants it hot. Why are you doing it?

Because I was the one in the kitchen sorting it out.

If I'm already on to something what's the point in stopping and making him finish his own off?

I like my custard cold and DH likes his hot.

unicormb · 03/08/2022 09:28

Warm custard. Not hot. Not lukewarm. The sweet spot in the middle.

ColdMonkey · 03/08/2022 09:28

Coke, especially with syrup sponge! Everyone else in this house prefers hot though so I dish mine up and then heat the rest.

Cold custard, double cream and warm apricot/plum/rhubarb crumble is my favouritest thing in the world

PlanetNormal · 03/08/2022 19:05

Always cold with hot puddings. The temperature contrast is lovely.

pepperminttaste · 03/08/2022 19:09

Cold custard, warm pudding.
Warm custard, cold pudding (looking at you, leftover crumble 😋).

I'm not actually that fussy really. I love custard. And puddings.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/08/2022 19:13

I love the comment - We are not savages
Hot obviously

LondonWolf · 03/08/2022 19:19

No custard. Disgusting stuff.

Fresh double cream 😋

StiggyZardust · 03/08/2022 19:19

I've never heard of anyone eating cold custard unless it's in a trifle!

Cold from a tin. Hot if homemade.

DaysLikeThis1 · 03/08/2022 19:21

Cold with skin!

Lightningrain · 03/08/2022 19:25

Definitely hot with a hot pudding although I do love custard doughnuts, custard danishes, custard slices.

RestingMurderousFace · 03/08/2022 19:27

Cold. Wouldn't dream of heating it up!

Blowyourowntrumpet · 03/08/2022 19:33

Hot

Sierra1961 · 03/08/2022 19:33

I prefer cold on warm puddings.

UnagiForLife · 03/08/2022 19:37

I can have it either way but prefer it heated.

Many years ago I took a crumble and a carton of custard to a friend’s house when they were cooking dinner and asked us to bring dessert. I was disgusted when she just opened the carton and put it on the table without heating it up. But out of politeness I had it cold on my crumble and was surprised it was actually really nice!

Ohahjustalittlebit · 03/08/2022 19:41

Cold with chopped banana and rich tea biscuits in.

Anything else is just weird.

overitall1 · 03/08/2022 19:41

Ok, when making hot custard with powder, who gets the skin? My mum used to have to cut it in half so me and my DSis could each have some otherwise there would have been a riot. Fortunately no one else likes it in my household now so I get it all to myself. 👏🏻

Xanadu58 · 03/08/2022 19:42

Hot , cold custard belongs in a trifle only.

belimoo · 03/08/2022 19:42

Creme Brulee cold.
Cold custard in custard donuts.
Hot custard with crumble, put, sponge puddings etc.

Never heard of having liquid custard cold to serve with warm pudding! If you make it with powder and let it cool, it will congeal surely? So I guess you'd have to have it out of a can or carton.

This is the only sensible answer. I can only assume everybody else was drunk last night Smile

The skin 🤢 that always went to my younger brother as kids, now it goes in the bin!
