Hot feet in bed

Do anyone else's feet get unbearably hot in bed? Mine have to be outside the covers, even in winter but in the warmer weather they're like size 5 furnaces! I was reading in bed but I've had to get up and am currently sitting with my feet on an ice pack, I've been here 20 minutes and they haven't cooled down at all. No excessive walking or standing in my day to day life so no idea why they're like this, anyone else similarly afflicted?

How old are you? Is this a recent thing?

Workinghardeveryday · 01/08/2022 22:45

Watching as I am having this problem too..

LongDarkTeatime · 01/08/2022 22:49

I have this. Read somewhere it can be related to low ferritin. Started taking heme iron again and it’s a bit better, not gone but better.

MissVantaBlack · 01/08/2022 22:49

I also have fiery feet in bed. Strange, because I always used to feel the cold at night. I put it down to the menopause (I tend to run hot in general now).

Cantbeliveyoufakeit · 01/08/2022 22:50

I'm late 40's and they've always been hot, possibly worse now I'm older though.

I've been like this for years!

I've had it where I have to get up in the night to stand in a cold bath or stick my feet in a freezer. I can't sleep when they're like that.

The irony is, I have raynauds too, which is getting worse.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 01/08/2022 22:53

Yes I have had this for two or three years .
I read that it was a peri menopause symptom like hot flushes.

I am mid fifties so that makes sense.

Yep, feet under the cold bath tap at 3am is not uncommon for me!

Ok, I'm probably going to sound weird here but hey Ho.

When we had the 2 day heatwave I bought a couple of those cooling mats from the pet shop, the ones designed for dogs and put them in mine and DDs beds to let us sleep cool.

I loved it so much I've moved it the end of the bed to keep my feet cold. It's a blissful invention. I love it and will probably sleep on my dog bed forever 😂

AnnaMagnani · 01/08/2022 23:02

Me too! Have wondered if it was peri-menopause but honestly they've been like it for years.

Wool duvet has only partially helped.

A lot of googling has suggested to me that it might be a sort of Restless Legs Syndrome, which fits as when they are really bad I want to move them.

Akite · 01/08/2022 23:03

I have hot feet too, always have. Weirdly only in bed though, they are often freezing during the day but the moment the light goes out they boil. Never ever ever have feet under the covers, even on the coldest night.
I do tend to anaemia so the low ferritin idea is interesting. I'm generally pretty overheated most of the time now I'm menopausal anyway.

justasking111 · 01/08/2022 23:04

My feet are either like this or freezing. It's so hot at night I am under a thin throw with my feet poking out

SmallSoupcon · 01/08/2022 23:11

Yes I've had hot itchy feet for about 10 years, and it's much more frequent now I'm in my early 40s.
I slather my feet in cream multiple times a night and I recently tried anti-histamines (which I think only worked because they knocked me out!) for the itchiness.
I've just ordered some bodyshop peppermint foot stuff, hopefully it works as it's bloody expensive!

snowdropsandcrocuses · 01/08/2022 23:14

Me too. Super hot and uncomfortable feet. I have a standing fan on at the foot of the bed in the summer and I'm not happy unless it is pointing toward my feet. I love it when they feel chilly.

NoInvitesEver · 01/08/2022 23:20

Me too. I have a tower fan at end of bed and my feet sticking out the duvet.
Have been known to paddle in cold bath before bed.

LizzieSiddal · 01/08/2022 23:22

My sister gets this.

She puts a hot water bottle filled with cold water, pops it in the freezer for a few hours, covers it with a thinnish towel and puts it in the bed for her feet. She says it’s brillaint.

ZiggyGigi · 01/08/2022 23:24

I’ve recently started to go to bed in wet socks due to this issue, helps a fair bit

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2022 23:26

Peri-menopause/menopause. It's very common. I have these brilliant bootie things I keep in the freezer.

jessyjo2 · 01/08/2022 23:29

Im in the club too! Cold feet getting into bed, next thing go on fire. I try to get off to sleep quickly before it starts! I usually get up during night to walk on cold tiles and then moisturiser.
Doctor thinks its nerves in feet, put me on gabapentin, definitely helps.

That's genius! I know what I'm buying tomorrow, thanks Smile The low ferritin is interesting, I'm having awful long, heavy periods now I'm peri so that might be why it's worse these days. The restless legs link is also interesting, I suffer terribly with this in the evenings when I'm sitting watching tv although thankfully it stops as soon as I lie down. That's only started in the last year or so and I definitely think it's a peri symptom, can remember having hot feet as far back as my teens.

Some great ideas for relief, going to take a hot water bottle filled with ice cold water back up with me for tonight, too tired to wait for it to freeze Smile

I’ve had this for a few years, my feet feel hot & really dry - I can’t sleep unless I smother them in moisturiser ( I have a massive bottle next to the bed) I had/have transverse myelitis which caused nerve damage to my feet so that didn’t help

demokitty · 02/08/2022 00:37

Yeah I get hot feet. It used to drive me mad but for some reason it's improved with age! I'm early 40s by the way. I used to wake up in the night and have to put my feet in the bath while the cold tap was running. Or have a wet flannel for each foot with a fan pointing at them. I'd completely forgotten about it. My feet still get hot but seem to be happy enough just sticking out of the cover these days.

MadCattery · 02/08/2022 00:43

It’s been this way since I was a small child. If I am very cold, I cover my feet and warm up fast! No matter how cold, I have to poke my feet out from under the covers. I also have red palms and once asked a doctor if that was normal. He said I must have good vascularity? I’m older now, had to have cardiac bypass, so it’s definitely not that! My mother was the same. And, I know a young man with the same.

middleager · 02/08/2022 00:46

Yes. I'm 49 and it's coincided with the perimenopause.
