Title says it all. I'm 20 and looking for some pointers! Feeling very lost atm.

I'm nearly 40.
I stayed with my first boyfriend far too long. He was nice but not the one.

Learn about money. Don't get into credit card debt. Do start an ISA/pension.
Look after your skin, teeth and feet.

Can you tell us more about your circumstances? Who do you live with, do you work/study? Have/want children? Have hobbies or interests?

Wish I’d taken some time out after caring for a terminally ill parent at 23 and gone on a gap trip. Instead I met and went out with an absolute arsehole for seven years.

paddingtonstares · 30/07/2022 21:22

I wish I had travelled and had the confidence to go on my own. I wouldn't have had children with hindsight, I was a shit at parenting.

I wish I'd gone Inter railing. Is that still a thing?

BruisedSkies · 30/07/2022 21:23

Saved money. Just not spunked it all on shit I can’t remember.

MrsMitford3 · 30/07/2022 21:24

To be perfectly blunt I wished I'd shagged a bit more.

One bf in Uni who I married. that was it.

should have had a bit more "variety" and a bit of fun really

weshouldeatcake · 30/07/2022 21:26

I regret not doing things for fear of what other people would think of me.
However, I did go travelling twice and on lots of city breaks with friends. I regret not travelling to some places worrying about lack of funds.
I regret staying with my then boyfriend for fear of being alone.

merryhouse · 30/07/2022 21:27

Weights, and stretching. I cannot stress this enough.

Singing lessons.

My niche hobby (I neglected it for 15 years. I think I could have been at the top of the middle-range by now, certainly much better than I currently am).

All the domestic-goddess stuff that I've spent years half-arsing Grin

Haggisfish3 · 30/07/2022 21:28

I’m pleased I had lots of boyfriends and partied lots. I wish I’d travelled more, started a pension, and had more confidence in myself to apply for better jobs.

grafittiartist · 30/07/2022 21:29

I wish I had looked after finances better. Boring, but it would have made life easier later on.

Supersee · 30/07/2022 21:29

Taken a year out to travel alone and to think what I really wanted to do career wise. I rushed into uni, dropped out and have went from boring admin to admin job since.

Don't take out credit cards, save for a house deposit.

goinback · 30/07/2022 21:34

Turned down an opportunity to work with friends abroad in a new business, they have an amazing life now while I was a scared little mouse .

newbiename · 30/07/2022 21:36

Why weights and stretching if you don't mind me asking?

Blossomtoes · 30/07/2022 21:38

More sex. Been more sensible with money.

This. Apart from that, I don't regret anything.

Suprima · 30/07/2022 21:39

Not been desperate to play house with a mediocre boyfriend in my early twenties

travel, date, level up your career. Dick is abundant at any age

DelilahBucket · 30/07/2022 21:41

I regret not being able to travel. I had my son at 22 and feel like I missed out on a significant part of life where I could be free. That said, in some ways I'm glad I had my son at a young age as I had lots of energy and now he's nearly an adult I'm young enough to enjoy my life with the money I didn't have in my 20's.
I also regret living on the never never and the mountains of debt I had in my early 20's. I moved out of home at 16 and had I not done that, life would have been very different.

Mochatatts · 30/07/2022 21:43

Travelled, saved. Had better boundaries. Not put up with rubbish friends and settled for a 'nice' bloke. I wish I'd lived alone and learnt how to be financially independent sooner. Just spent time getting to know myself and doing the therapy I needed.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/07/2022 21:44

I wish I had:
Travelled more
worked abroad
Not got into debt
Learned about money and started savings and pensions much earlier
Slept with a couple more women
Not worried so much about what I was going to do for a career
Kept up fitness

I am glad I:
Travelled as much as I did
Had a good time
Had some crazy entertaining boy friends, and friends
Slept with quite a lot of men
was stubborn and said no to career paths until I found the right thing

Bubbleguppette · 30/07/2022 21:44

Should have sorted finances, started pension earlier.
I should have had my kids a bit earlier...late twenties or early thirties. I waited until late thirties and it just made things more difficult and stressful.

Bonbon21 · 30/07/2022 21:47

I turned down the chance to travel...very cheaply!!!... for the sake of a new boyfriend.. my life would have been very different ....

DuesToTheDirt · 30/07/2022 21:47

I wish I'd travelled more. I did travel, but there are so many places I'll never go now, and it's not the same when you're older. I felt I needed to come back and get a career instead.
