Urgent referral Breast Clinic

Chocolateismyfavourite · 29/07/2022 15:28

I saw my GP at the beginning on the week because of a lump I found. He said I'd be seen within two weeks at the clinic, he directed me to the hospital website for the breast clinic, had lots of info, including that you'd have a phone call within a few days with a appointment. Nothing from them yet.

Just wondered how long others in the same position had had to wait for a call .

Thanks

Urgent ref is within 2 weeks and I am always seen that quick.
Ref non urgent up to 6 weeks.
See if there is a email for the hospital online and query it

Hope everything is OK.

Mamato4rs · 29/07/2022 15:41

I've had letters arrive before the phone call with the appointment I should have added . If it get to day 5 or 6 def make contact

sbwtgir22 · 29/07/2022 15:43

I got a call from the hospital the same day as my referral from my GP. Was seen a week later.

Hope you're ok x

Thanks for the replies. I have rung the out patients appointment line and all they could tell me is that the refferal so with the breast clinic. I managed to find the right number for them, and they said they could help and promptly gave me the number for the appointment line.

I will ring again Monday afternoon if I've not heard. I want to ring again this afternoon to ask, if I've not heard by then, who do I ring? Because I just seemed to be passed from one to the other.
Thanks - I'm ok, I have been good all week trying to be patient until lunchtime today when I just seemed to have got really annoyed about it all.

I was told that all first instance referrals to the breast clinic were on the 2 week pathway.

It took about a week to hear, though I I'd see the GP on a Friday so taking into account actual working days, not many. Had the appointment the following week.

I know it can be worrying but I'd try to avoid using timescales to represent potential concern or likely severity. If you get an earlier appointment in most instances that's just going to be because there's a cancellation and will ring around to fill it from the bank of referrals on the lit, or a list has changed or opened up.

RosieLemonadeAndSugar · 29/07/2022 16:12

I was referred on an urgent referral and took about 7 days to get an appointment they call and then confirm it in a letter.

Hope everything goes well

Chocolateismyfavourite · 29/07/2022 16:40

Thanks for the info. I logged onto NHS online, and it said I had a refferal pending that was over due and I could ring rapid access appointment line.
The person on the phone said that it was with the consultant and I'd get a phone call at some point in the week and that no one is getting seen within two weeks, they are booking out 2-3 weeks. So maybe the GP shouldn't have said it was a rapid access thing to me.

I was recalled after a routine mammogram.
A week until the appt (could’ve had earlier cancellation but couldn’t make that day), had all the tests then another week for results. All was fine. Once you get your appointment it can all be over ina day, but because I had a biopsy they had to wait for results. Prepare for biopsy is all I’ll say, they are so lovely in the clinic but it’s uncomfortable and faffy.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 29/07/2022 17:35

@JustDanceAddict thank for the advice, I have to say I'm not looking forward to that bit, and I knew I would have to wait a week for the results wich is fine. Just hoping for a call at the start of the week rather than the end.

Good luck! Hope you get the appointment through very soon.

Knittedfairies · 29/07/2022 18:37

I had my appointment date within 2 days of seeing my GP, but waited 3 weeks for it. The waiting is awful - good luck.

SergeiL · 29/07/2022 18:42

Sorry to hear you find yourself in this position. You should be seen within 2 weeks but I have heard that some areas cannot achieve this at the moment. Waiting is the worst bit. I hope you hear soon.

Musicaltheatremum · 29/07/2022 18:44

Urgent in Scotland is 6 weeks to several months. It's horrendous. Breast clinic referrals even urgent are 4-6 weeks. Routine is 2 years for some specialties.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 11/08/2022 14:17

Hi,
Just thought I'd update. Had to wait a week for the phone call to get the appointment, wich was Tuesday just gone.
Had two mamograms, scan, biopsy of the lump and a clip inserted and biopsy of an area towards my armpit wich came up in the mamogram.
There's no appointments next week, I'm on holiday the next so get my results in 31st, but they've said they'll ring if they have a cancellation.
I'm going to work next week then enjoy my holiday.

Glad you got seen. Am hoping for good news for you but equally, if it’s not the news you want, I hope you get a plan put in place quickly. Everything crossed for you.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 11/08/2022 17:34

@SergeiL thank you💐

My lump was spotted on a routine NHS mammogram, on a Thursday,
had appt at breast clinic the following Monday,
saw the surgeon 11 days later,
op was 23 days after that.

Initial scan to home from operation was 43 days. They were really good.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 11/08/2022 19:53

@MintJulia wow that was good!

Yes. I was expecting a struggle and honestly, they were brilliant.

There was one day the radiotherapy machine was broken & awaiting a part, and they got me another appointment, same day, 30 miles away.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 30/08/2022 17:34

Hi bit of an update.

My appointment for my results is tomorrow.
Today, I was at the hospital for a ( non urgent) appointment with gynecology. During taking my history, I said I was back tomorrow for results of my breast lump biopsy. He said, as yes, have they given you a date for your chemo yet?! I was like wtf?! The nurses eyes flung wide open and he sorted of back tracked, and then we got on with why I was there. I was to shocked to say anything.

Can't believe he let something slip like that. Now I have to wait to find out if it's definitely true but it seems pretty definitive to me..

OP posts:
Hugasauras · 30/08/2022 17:38

Oh gosh, that's awful. Hopefully he just misspoke and was confused. Would he have access to the results if they aren't back yet? Or do you think they are back and on your record already?

Hohofortherobbers · 30/08/2022 17:41

That is appalling, make a note of this, in due course you should complain. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow's appt.

Chocolateismyfavourite · 30/08/2022 17:44

@Hugasauras I think they are back as it's three weeks since I had the biopsies on the lump and arm pit. They had no space the week after and I was on holiday last week .
@Hohofortherobbers I am going to bring it up tomorrow in the appointment tomorrow. Thank you.

Thought I'd update to say, I do have breast cancer. It hadn't speak to my lymph nodes wich is good. I start chemo on 22nd, then surgery followed by radiotherapy.
