I did archery for a short time, you could try that?

paddingtonstares · 26/07/2022 18:35

Karate aged 55

ModernWay · 26/07/2022 18:45

I started to play basketball 2 years ago. I still can remember how it was. I met my friend who was into sports. He bet a lot and he was trying to involve me too. I found a site www.mightytips.com/bookmakers/uk-betting-sites/ then bet on a random basketball match with the purpose to show my bet to my friend. I hoped he leave me to rest after that. But then I decided to watch a game and I was so excited about it. Next week I went to a local amateur basketball club and started playing. Now I am doing good and playing and semi-professional leagues. Big thanks to my friend, it is such a cool story to tell now)

I've got back into ballet and running.

I'd like to add karate which I've never done before, and possibly cycling (which I have done before).

QuebecBagnet · 26/07/2022 18:47

Cycling

lljkk · 26/07/2022 18:49

i haven't kept all this up, or had long spells not doing some things, but then come back.

20s birdwatching
countryside hikes
country dance
inline skating
bicycle repair
cross-stitch
kayaking
30s off road cycling
running
piano playing
40+ patchwork, quilts; making soup / brownies :)

Homewardbound2022 · 26/07/2022 18:53

I've always fancied fencing but finding class times which suit me is proving tricky.

ShirleyJackson · 26/07/2022 18:55

Yoga
Running
Weights/resistance training
Open-water swimming

fourtytwochairs · 26/07/2022 21:27

Thanks for the ideas, some of these I'd never thought of but am definitely going to look into!

@Homewardbound2022 finding suitable class times is definitely the hardest part for me too.

Parkrun in my 40s.

frazzled101 · 26/07/2022 21:35

Swimming, crochet, and most recently sewing

kittykarate · 26/07/2022 21:40

Karate (started in my 30s - my dojo closed unfortunately and i couldn't face changing styles).

Horseriding - tough to start when you're older because it is a long way down and you don't bounce like a bairn.

Ice dance ( no jumps or spins for me!)

Cross Country skiing (winter) Rollerski (rest of the year)

I'd like to try archery or fencing.

HouseofGods · 26/07/2022 21:42

CrossFit - started at 34 and love it

RuthW · 26/07/2022 21:44

I'm 53 now.

My hobbies are:
crafting, started age 23.
WI started age 21
Ballroom latin and sequence dancing started (again as gave up age 14) started age 45.

Tiddlywinkly · 26/07/2022 21:47

Running at 32. Now 38 and completed 8 marathons and 1 ultra. Love it

Homewardbound2022 · 26/07/2022 21:51

@kittykarate you reminded me. Cross country skiing really appeals to me too. Too afraid now to do alpine skiing after busting a knee.

FiddleFigs · 26/07/2022 21:56

Watercolour painting, early 20s
Sewing, late 20s
Pottery, last year (early 40s)
And I’d love to learn the piano too - but no space for one in the house!

ilovetomatoes · 26/07/2022 22:38

Cricket. Started a team and have a hardcore group of 40+ ladies. It’s amazing

junebirthdaygirl · 26/07/2022 22:58

Golf...sorry l didn't take it up earlier. Love it.

kittykarate · 27/07/2022 18:43

@Homewardbound2022 if you need any advice on getting started on cross country skiing give me a shout!

fourtytwochairs · 27/07/2022 21:08

How many of these have you done classes for vs teaching yourself at home? I'm assuming things like running etc are at home.

StillMedusa · 27/07/2022 21:14

I took up Taekwondo at 45 (got my black belt at 48) Now stopped due to injury.
Bought a digital piano during lockdown.. online teaching and about to start with a real live one :) I can now murder Moonlight Sonata , first movement, and Fur Elise Grin
Took up Kayaking last year!

OperaStation · 27/07/2022 21:24

Swimming in my late 30s.

Would love to do a team sport but it’s hard to find the time. Cricket or hockey would be fun.

AbleCable · 27/07/2022 21:26

Sewing, I bought a singer machine in Aldi, took a 2 hour class in how to set it up and use it, and have made lots of stuff and hemmed curtains and taken up dresses.

Piano, bought a digital one (with headphones), and took weekly 30min classes for about two years. I can now play a dumbed down version of the things I like and it sounds OK.

I took up both since turning 40 and find them a nice change from looking at screens/tv. I need it after a day staring at a computer screen.
Oh, and took up skiing in my 30s after moving to Switzerland. I had a few lessons but mostly learned from skiing with friends who were very good.

balalake · 28/07/2022 07:15

French language cinema, lucky to have opportunities in London at the independent ones and Institute Francais.
