Anyone up? Is this appendicitis?

I will be calling the GP as soon as they open, 2hrs 53mins and counting.
I started with terrible indigestion yesterday around 3pm. This turned into stomach ache at 5pm. Now it's feels like a bad stitch, or pulled muscle, to the right of my belly button and I've been awake a few hours. I think the pain woke me as rolling over really bloody hurts.
Breathing hurts a bit too and I feel queasy. Any thoughts or just a hand hold? It's just me here with little DC.

Certainly could be appendicitis. Or any number of other things. If it’s the sort of pain where moving makes it hurt more it really needs to be checked out. Can you get to A&E?

NewIdeasToday · 26/07/2022 05:14

Why didn’t you call 111 or your GP out of hours service?

hope you feel better soon.

NewIdeasToday · 26/07/2022 05:15

Sorry that should say “why don’t you…”

It's one of those situations where I cannot tell if I'm over- or under-reacting? The foetal position and shallow breathing is as comfortable as I can get.
I have a car so yes I can get to a&e, little one is fast asleep and I'm worried about the wait time hence contemplating waiting for GP advice.

Oh, poor you!f

I am sorry to say that it does sound very much like I felt when I had appendicitis. I think it would be worth getting it checked asap - if it is appendicitis you really don’t want it to rupture!. Can you call NHS direct and get their advice rather than waiting for your own GP? Or if your area has an urgent care system, either wake the kids and go on an early morning adventure, or get a friend or family to come and sit with them while you go there? Hopefully it is nothing, but I’d definitely err on the side of caution.

ThreeB · 26/07/2022 05:19

You really need to call 111 rather than waiting for the GP surgery to open. If the GP thinks it is appendicitis they will just send you straight to A&E anyway.

NewCatName · 26/07/2022 05:22

I'd get yourself to A&E if breathing hurts and you feel sick. Take your little one with you if there's no one you can call to mind them.

MaizeBlouse · 26/07/2022 05:25

I had similar a few months ago OP. Mine turned out to be a UTI that had travelled up to my kidney tract. I was run down at the time and didnt notice the (mild) UTI symptoms until it had got a lot worse. But at first it was suspected appendicitis.
Hope you feel better soon.

MissedItByThisMuch · 26/07/2022 05:25

Based on the info you’ve given here I’d say your GP will send you to A&E. I’d just go if I were you. (I’m not in the UK though - if calling 111 is what you do there then do that I guess). But either way I think you should get onto it now, not delay things a few more hours.

ISeeTrees · 26/07/2022 05:27

I tried to do 111 online but it wasn't very helpful. Somehow it concluded that I probably had Covid 😬
Googling urgent care, thank you. I am trying to avoid a&e if at all possible. I've talked myself in circles- "maybe it's just gas/that pizza you had/a pulled muscle"- but obviously I just don't know. I thought it would have got worse if it was appendix but apparently not always the case.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 26/07/2022 05:34

I had pain like that once. It was actually a kidney infection but still required hospital stay. Don't wait around. Get to A&E.

dizzydizzydizzy · 26/07/2022 05:39

Go to A&E, OP. Better safe than sorry.

PurplePetalPip · 26/07/2022 05:44

Sounds similar to when I had gallstones so that's another possibility, especially if it came on after something fatty like a pizza. But like others have said, you really need to get to A&E asap. If it's appendicitis then time is critical.

ISeeTrees · 26/07/2022 05:55

I've had a few sips of water with painkillers and there's a fair bit of gurgling going on. It's taken the edge off slightly and breathing is a bit more comfortable.
I do have IBS but didn't eat any of my usual triggers yesterday (pizza was Saturday 😳 but I haven't 'been' since Friday).
I'm going to see if I can get one of my parents to come and sit with DC and head up, no urgent care anywhere near and realistically GP/111 can't help without seeing me can they.

NewCatName · 26/07/2022 08:39

Hope you're being seen to OP.
(Didn't realise you have ibs, hopefully it's that).

ISeeTrees · 26/07/2022 10:58

I am still waiting to be seen, but tests have been done. Hoping it won't be too much longer.
It doesn't feel like ibs pain that I'm used to, just this awful stitch, but I'll let the experts decide. Thanks all Flowers

Throughtheroof · 26/07/2022 13:35

Fingers crossed that what ever it turns out to be, it's sorted out quickly. Good luck.

NewCatName · 26/07/2022 13:50

Hopefully you're not still waiting and it's not anything serious Flowers

legalseagull · 26/07/2022 15:00

If you haven't had a poo since Friday and it's now Tuesday I'd suspect constipation and wind pains. It can be agony!

PurplePetalPip · 26/07/2022 21:08

How did you get on OP? Hoping it turned out to be nothing serious Flowers

WinterMusings · 26/07/2022 21:12

@ISeeTrees

How did you get on?

It sounds similar to when I had my Appendix removed, but I guess you'll know by now!

ISeeTrees · 27/07/2022 09:13

@legalseagull that's pretty normal for me, besides I've been now and it's still bloody agony. It can get pretty uncomfortable though I agree!
I had lots of tests and they couldn't find out what was wrong with me. I was discharged with painkillers and basically told to see how I went.
The pain is just as bad today, I have zero appetite and feel a bit battered from all the tests yesterday Sad

OP posts:
NewCatName · 27/07/2022 09:23

That's sounds hard, OP. Presumably they don't think it's appendicitis then, that's one good thing at least.

Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon Flowers

vipersnest1 · 27/07/2022 09:28

OP, did they do an ultrasound scan?

ISeeTrees · 27/07/2022 09:41

Thanks @NewCatName they ruled out appendix but my infection markers/white blood count was raised slightly and they didn't explain why that could be.
@vipersnest1 no they didn't, I have a gynae appt today for something unrelated but I'll mention and see if they can see/do anything, then chase up with my GP I think.
