What foods have been out of stock in your local supermarket?

Just been to Aldi and non of the essentials stuff was there 20 p spaghetti or the penne pasta for 32p. Not many snacks either. I assume people can't afford to eat expensive hence the basics being taken.

Tortilla chips. Rare as hen's teeth around here.

beansandmayo · 25/07/2022 23:42

Fresh tomatoes that aren't from the finest range (tesco) I'm ready to put my tinfoil hat on and say its delibrate, they're the only big supermarket here so it's a pain😂

extrapineappleonmypizza · 25/07/2022 23:53

My Asda delivery came without coleslaw and mayonnaise. Nothing to substitute it either?! I don't but it.

No honeydew melon
No baking potatoes
no peppers
no salad leaves
no coconut yoghurt
some sausage varieties missing

unfortunateevents · 25/07/2022 23:55

At Lidl (well the two closest to us) there has been almost no choice of cereal, crisps or biscuits on our last two visits. Supplies of pasta are very variable, very often no spaghetti or penne. Almost no tinned tomatoes the last time we were there. I didn't need any at the time but I also noticed that there was no tomato ketchup of any brand a couple of weeks ago, actually I've just remembered, I was looking for salad dressing at the time, not a single bottle to be found. So lots of stuff seems to be in short supply.

unfortunateevents · 25/07/2022 23:56

Oh, more stuff in short supply – no orange juice on our second last visit and last week very little in stock. Generally now I go to Lidl but then have to go down the road to Tesco to pick up all the missing stuff.

extrapineappleonmypizza · 25/07/2022 23:56

*I don't buy it.

And by that, I mean, I don't believe they had absolutely nothing in the whole of Asda that they could sub for my particular choice of coleslaw and mayonnaise.
I think they just didn't want to honour the price difference if they gave me something more expensive.

maddy68 · 25/07/2022 23:57

Is it all stuck with the brexit checks at the port?

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/07/2022 00:01

I shop at Morrisons, nothing missing on my last shop

takeitandleaveit · 26/07/2022 00:14

I didn't notice any particular gaps on the shelves the last time I was in Aldi. What I have noticed in other supermarkets though, is that they seem to be reducing their range of 'budget' own brand produce. I'm guessing that is due to them making more profit on other lines, so they are dropping the least profitable versions.

middleager · 26/07/2022 00:27

Not been able to get frozen sliced carrots for months now.

MarmiteCoriander · 26/07/2022 00:32

I find it depends which time of day I visit. Our local Lidl, for example, has empty shelves in the afternoons.

Noticed at tesco today that the frozen pizza section was almost bare

airforsharon · 26/07/2022 00:53

My local Lidl, pretty much everything. Huge gaps on the shelves the last couple of times i've been, on one occasion no eggs at all, second trip almost no crackers/crisps and very little cereal & pasta. Tesco and Aldi generally pretty well stocked.
I've noticed there seems to be an increasingly small range of sanitary towels in all shops. I'm now buying for teen daughters, and there were so many more brands available when i was their age. I don't know if it's down to Brexit, production issues or possibly more women using washable pads/mooncups so there is less demand for disposables

Irisbouquet · 26/07/2022 06:22

Cans of fizzy drink, I've been to 3 supermarkets this week trying to get some, ended up with Tesco own brand.

MayThe4th · 26/07/2022 06:27

I shop at sainsburys. Nothing missing and no substitutions for months now. Even sunflower oil.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 26/07/2022 06:32

My tesco delivery has had no ham (and no subs for it) for two weeks now. Yesterday's delivery also had no medium cheddar or satsumas. We've been struggling with sawdust for the guinea pigs for several weeks now too.

Beees · 26/07/2022 06:37

Anything frozen or from the fridges. They have just started to put things back after they all stopped working during the heat wave but when I ventured out yesterday the vast majority of the freezers were still out of use in all 3 of the supermarkets nearby.

Also the cereal aisle is looking very sparce in all our local supermarkets including Lidl and Aldi.

User952539 · 26/07/2022 06:39

It’s shop dependent rather than general shortages of a particular thing I think. I went to our enormous Tesco yesterday and there were so many gaps. Meat was very low, crisps were limited, biscuits were limited, cheese was very limited. It wasn’t that I could get any of these things, it’s just that the normal choice wasn’t there and prices were high

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/07/2022 06:39

Tomatoes! Yes! Have been forced to buy the posh vine ones lately (which admittedly taste better!)as value ones gone.

KitKattaktik · 26/07/2022 06:42

Last Lidl shop there were no cucumber, spring onions or lettuce at all. No eggs, no long life milk, no tonic water, no peanuts or cashews.

Last Tesco shop (same day to try to top up what was missing) no cucumber but we got everything else.

You obviously don't shop at the one I work in 🤣🤣

I work in home delivery. We get marked on availability. We are lucky if we get to 92% most days. Our store is particularly bad possibly down to management.

The only reason our AV is as good (🤣) as it is is because we run around searching the warehouse and digging through the delivery to do our very best for the customers

bruce43mydog · 26/07/2022 06:45

It may be that a sub isn't offered to the pickers. We can only put in what comes up on the handsets which is frustrating.

Or if you have a delivery that leaves early the shelves may not have been filled overnight or the store delivery might not have come and so there actually might be nothing on the shelves.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 26/07/2022 06:48

Aldi shopper here. We've been able to get most things apart from wholemeal pitta breads.
My Mum shops at Tesco and they seem to be pretty bad at the moment- no tomatoes, prunes, diced steak, lambs liver, carrots...

This is definitely the case. During lockdown I once had a tube of value toothpaste with "no substitute available" from the approx 100 different types of toothpaste I see on the shelves there.

I learnt back then that if you order something cheap it's rarely substitutioned, but if you order a branded version it is usually subbed for a cheaper or equivalent one. So if there was something I really wanted, I would order the branded version (or both versions!)

As for now, there's nothing I've noticed being regularly out of stock. I went to my very large local Asda yesterday and the only thing I couldn't get from my list was Asda chocolate mousse, but they had strawberry or lemon mousse, or various other varieties of choc mousse so I don't think it was a supply issue.
