Just been to Aldi and non of the essentials stuff was there 20 p spaghetti or the penne pasta for 32p. Not many snacks either. I assume people can't afford to eat expensive hence the basics being taken.

I'm having to rely on online deliveries at the moment.

Consistently they are turning up with only half the stuff. No subs at all. I think @extrapineappleonmypizza is right that they don't want to honour the price difference.

It's a bit of a bummer to pay for a delivery and be left without any milk, bread and laundry detergent. And more to the point, Nutty Bars.

MintJulia · 26/07/2022 07:05

Tesco mayonnaise on Saturday. I had a spare pot in the cupboard so not an issue.

Tesco plain chocolate digestives - no chance of having a spare packet of those 😁

ohblowmedown · 26/07/2022 07:11

Tesco seem to have reduced their range, not sure if it's permanent or a stock issue. None of their own brand chocolate caramel cereal bars, or the honey oat and almond flakes cereal for weeks.

I've noticed there seems to be an increasingly small range of sanitary towels in all shops. I'm now buying for teen daughters, and there were so many more brands available when i was their age. I don't know if it's down to Brexit, production issues or possibly more women using washable pads/mooncups so there is less demand for disposables I would love it if this were the case! There has definitely been a mainstream shift towards reusable period products and it's no bad thing.

AppleKatie · 26/07/2022 07:15

Plain orange squash is getting to be like hens teeth.

I don’t want bloody mango in it!

The Sainsbury’s website likes to default me back to ‘no subs’ but I’m wise to them now and change it back before checkout each time. DC’s magazines often get subbed for more expensive ones.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 26/07/2022 07:17

The only thing missing from yesterdays Waitrose delivery was Colgate toothpaste, in the pump action dispenser thing. Subbed for a normal tube. There were around 130 items on the order, a mix of fresh, dairy, meat and household stuff. They even had toilet rolls ;)

FergieFergus · 26/07/2022 07:19

In my local lidl - basics pasta and spaghetti. Tinned chopped tomatoes. Squeezy yoghurts.

The longest runner is custard creams though - the shelf has been empty for a couple of months now.

UrsulaPandress · 26/07/2022 07:26

Chives. There have been no chives in the main supermarkets for months.

my local independent greengrocer has them.

agree re own brand stuff. I used to always but Tesco own brand cheap tissues but not been any for a long time.

RaininSummer · 26/07/2022 07:27

The problem with Lidl and possibly also others is that they can't get the goods from the warehouses to the stores. They are trying to recruit people for this but so many unemployed people can't drive so can't access the jobs in the warehouses let alone be delivery drivers.

AuntieMarys · 26/07/2022 07:28

Bin liners!!!

MeanderingGently · 26/07/2022 07:28

My nearest Tesco is in a small market town, and it's been half empty recently. No idea why but I'm assuming it's a combination of reasons.

We've only just had our cooking oil shelves filled up because of Ukraine.
All our frozen food aisles are empty, I think that was because everything overheated during the hot weather and the stocks are only coming in now.
Orange juice, squashes, all the ice creams etc. sold out during the hot weather and stocks are only filling up now.
Some veg just can't be found, I couldn't even get a decent onion the other day so resorted to spring onions instead (for the recipe I was following).

I do think stocks are slower to reach us as we're quite rural, even though the store is in a market town.

Oh and hair mousse is another one. Tesco do their own brand but I haven't been able to get it for the last TWO YEARS! In fact, I haven't seen hair mousse about at all, not any variety. I concluded I must be old fashioned and no-one uses the stuff any more, it's perhaps not being produced these days? And then, a couple of days ago three cans of the stuff appeared on our shelves. I bought them all.....!

HelebethH · 26/07/2022 07:37

LIDL West country location . The lack of stock on the shelves has been diabolical for weeks. Very hit and miss. Spoke to the manager who said that it is a warehouse issue. Apparently they cannot recruit forklift drivers to meet the orders. Apparently lost lots of European workers and wages are rising and the drivers can take their pick of better paid companies. Funnily enough Aldi down the road is fully stocked. Just dont bother with Lidl now.

Cervinia · 26/07/2022 07:38

Nothing said above I couldn’t readily get although there are a few caveats.

I don’t eat coconut yoghurt so wouldn’t notice e any supply issues
We’ve just had a few days of excessive heat so I would expect the squash aisles to be right down, especially orange, I could still get it but the HiJuice sugar free was low down
we have access to large Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco, and Morrisons as well as lots of Lidl and Aldi, so I’m not limited to one store.

gogohmm · 26/07/2022 07:42

Crisps, well the knock off kettle chips at lidl which are nicer than the original

BeastOfBODMAS · 26/07/2022 07:43

I’ve been buying massive punnets of lovely English tomatoes from my local greengrocers for £1, nicer than the finest ones even. So those of you struggling for tomatoes I’d check there.

We get a delivery from a big Tescos and everything is usually in stock. Local Lidl sometimes has gaps in the baking section but otherwise pretty good

cliffdiver · 26/07/2022 07:54

In Sainsbury's, a lot of the things that are price matched to Aldi.

Recently, I've noticed halloumi, coffee and milk.

Yeah we keep running out of custard creams too. And loo roll.

Tbh a lot of stuff isn't coming in but also the supermarkets have cut hours so there aren't staff to work what's actually there. They need to give us all a pay rise but they don't want to increase the pay budget so they're cutting over-contract hours. Contract hours are often 12 with people then working 25 plus so basically they are cutting the workforce in half.

Plus people are leaving in droves either because they want more hours but can't have them or that they are being given extra hours they don't want. And recruitment is capped to save the wage budget...

TheBikiniExpert · 26/07/2022 07:54

I'm in Italy and haven't noticed anything missing but prices are up- especially pasta. And vegetable oil is rationed normally to 2 bottles per shop (who needs more anyway??)

newtb · 26/07/2022 07:56

Mustard

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/07/2022 08:00

Cooking oil, ketchup, crisps, squash/cordial, stick deodorant

peridito · 26/07/2022 08:34

I had to catch a bus from one shopping location to another to find pork shoulder steaks .And even then I ended up buying a pork shoulder joint which I then had to cube .(recipe I'm following )

heartbroken22 · 26/07/2022 11:21

Cucumbers is another one. Also cheap own brand noodles.

OP posts:
PrezelwithMarmite · 26/07/2022 11:23

Tesco had no mayo. Even branded stuff!
And the cereal has been sparce

AppleHa · 26/07/2022 11:30

In our local Tesco Express practically everything at one time or another. They don't sell everything anyway so these are things they usually sell and have been out of stock in the last few days:
Packs of ready salted crisps
Whole roasted chickens
Smoked salmon
Bagels
Hot dog buns
Sweetcorn
Various fruits at various times , although haven't seen nectarines/ peaches all summer
