Bless him, wonder how long he has been there?

Seeingadistance · 23/07/2022 00:41

Awwww!

Seeingadistance · 23/07/2022 00:42

You’ll need to go foraging for snails and slugs for him/her.

LBF2020 · 23/07/2022 00:42

Sweet little thing! You can feed them tuna/raw beef etc.. We rehabbed two hogs and they had raw dog food. They were very healthy!

SheeplessAndCounting · 23/07/2022 00:43

That's crazy! Hope he/ she is ok. And also that your bedroom isn't covered in fleas. 😬😬

bizzey · 23/07/2022 00:49

That's a better one ( with one of my best towels !!)

I want to know more about you finding the hedgehog.

bizzey · 23/07/2022 01:01

That little fella ,came in through the cat flap, through the kitchen, in the hallway,up the stairs, and 2nd bedroom on the right.

He was looking for me !!

Awww!

ouch321 · 23/07/2022 01:06

Well that's unusual, maybe he or she was trying to evade the heatwave.

It might have been to the bathroom all over your floor unfortunately. Esp if it's been in your house for some days.

Pricklesinperil · 23/07/2022 01:10

Ooooh poor thing must have been so hungry and thirsty to come into your house. Thank you for caring for him/her. Please call the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) on 01584 890 801 and explain the situation.

in the meantime, you’re doing all the right things in offering water and putting him/her on a towel. Please offer some high meat content pet food if you can.

EmmaH2022 · 23/07/2022 01:12

Aww
if you have a cat flap, aren’t you at risk of coming home and finding all the neighbourhood cats in your home? 😂

bizzey · 23/07/2022 01:12

Off to bleach the house now !

Pricklesinperil · 23/07/2022 01:16

SorryTo bother you again @bizzey but call the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) on 01584 890 801. The hedgehog might be very dehydrated and unwell -they will help.

Let us know!

bizzey · 23/07/2022 01:29

@Pricklesinperil can you message me ?
I have loads of these lovely people in my garden all the time.... And do my best .
.but ...
maybe not enough?

This little one was my regular visitor!

iirc If they roll into a ball properly they are OK, if they can't manage it they need help.

QuebecBagnet · 23/07/2022 07:27

Hedgehog shit stinks so if your house doesn’t smell he probably wasn’t there long.

my spare room used to be a hedgehog hospital and it took six months for the smell to go after the last hedgehog left.

SpikyHatePotato · 23/07/2022 07:45

Please don't fit him slugs! Hedgehogs will eat them if they are starving, but slugs carry lungworm which will kill hedgehogs.

Dried cat/kitten food is best, so long as the top listed ingredient is meat, not cereal. A dish of water left out and kept topped will really help all your garden visitors, including birds, at this time of year.

If you search for Hedgehog Cabin, it's a small rescue, with a website and Twitter with loads of useful information on what to feed (and not!) and when to call a rescue, etc.

Laughingmole · 23/07/2022 11:06

What have you named him / her? 🦔🦔

Hoppinggreen · 23/07/2022 11:08

Non fish wet cat food is best but bits of ham are ok in the short term.
They are quite smelly though so if it’s been there a while your house would stink
