The hedgehog got up the stairs? Is no one else really amazed it can do stairs?

hagelslaagfiend · 23/07/2022 11:13

They have pretty long legs. I've seen one negotiate a raised bed easily. Love hogs, got a smart one there. Agree it might need to be checked out.

greenacrylicpaint · 23/07/2022 11:14

hedgehogs must not have fish.
if you have dogfood, that's great. whenwe overwintered an injured hedgehog we gave it dog food and rodent pellets from the pet food aisle.
but water is the most important.

Do an image search for 'hedgehog climbing'Grin

bluegardenflowers · 23/07/2022 11:35

They are making climbers. One climbed the back stairs and died behind the cooker. Smell was horrendous. Try cat food and water for this one as he's likely dehydrated. Fleas not a major issue if he is still alive and providing nourishment for them

My husband got up for work one morning and found a hedgehog in our bath.

Pinklimey · 23/07/2022 11:42

Are you sure it isn't a she? The Cambridge Evening News carried a story of a female hedgehog that had babies inside a rabbit hutch

@Pricklesinperil can you message me ?
I have loads of these lovely people in my garden all the time.... And do my best .
.but ...
maybe not enough?

This little one was my regular visitor!

I’ve messaged you @bizzey

bizzey · 23/07/2022 13:22

Re the smell.... didn't notice a smell

Just the stuffiness/musty sort of stuff due to windows having been closed.

Maybe that was hedgehog 🦔 smell ?

The stairs bit ,is amazing !
There are 2 deep steps to get up to back door !

Then the normal stairs to get upstairs!

And why did my little friend choose my room ?

This might be the highlight of my holiday !!

I’d spray indoors with Indorex just in case and hoover thoroughly. Fleas tend to stay in nooks and crannies, not on the animal until they want a feed. I’ve just had to treat my place.

AnchorWHAT · 23/07/2022 15:00

Apparently hedgehog fleas wont affect humans, yes there would be black poo everywhere if he or she had been there long, came by just to welcome you home i reckon. Bet it popped in last week to look on the kitchen calendar to see when you were due back.

Soubriquet · 23/07/2022 15:12

Don’t worry about the fleas (haven’t read the thread yet so not sure if it’s been said)

Hedgehog fleas are host specific. They cannot survive without a hedgehog and will quickly die in your home. They cannot survive on a dog or cat. It must be a hog

They’re really good climbers, they can climb fences if they have to. They’re also good swimmers.
