If you are overweight have your ankles swollen in the heat?

Mine have. Not very much and they go down at night.
I hate how it looks. It's a good incentive to try and lose some weight.
I've really struggled the last few days.

I’m overweight, and pregnant. The one I broke is a bit swollen, the other is fine although I’ve not been on my feet as much as I’m not at work.
Try raising them above the level of your heart and see if you can get them to go down.

Gatekeeper · 19/07/2022 20:34

Yup....they look like boiled hams ready for Christmas

ApolloandDaphne · 19/07/2022 20:37

No, mine only became swollen when I was pregnant. My ankles look great, the rest of me is a melty mess!

GirlInACountrySong · 19/07/2022 20:37

not yet!!

ive recently lost around 3 stone so i'm significantly smaller than last year. theres still time

bellac11 · 19/07/2022 20:38

Yep, flowing over the sides of my shoes. Disgusting

Also worse because Ive been eating bread, I find they're better if I stay away from the stuff.

MaryJoLisa · 19/07/2022 20:39

Mine are permanently swollen, heat doesn't help, but regardless of my size they are always horrendous. Shoes are a nightmare all year round.

I agree, bread makes mine a lot worse.

That's interesting.I sprained my ankle quite badly a few years ago and on closer inspection that one is definitely more swollen. I hadn't realised that would happen.

No not at all. BMI 37.

JuneOsborne · 19/07/2022 20:43

Like a pp, my ankles (and my wrists) are the only slender part of me. Long may it last.

GoSomewhereThatDoes · 19/07/2022 20:43

If you can, lay on your bed with your feet up on the headboard to get them higher than your head. And drink lots of water.

Pinkkahori · 19/07/2022 20:44

I'm sure age must have something to do with it. I'm 48. This didn't happen when I was younger.
It's worse after work too, mostly sitting in a very warm office.

Yes, I had a knee injury recently and although Ive been discharged from physio and its sort of healed although still healing, that leg is swollen and that ankle is much more swollen. He did given an explanation of why that happens, its not 'inflammation' per se, its to do with the muscle strength lacking due to the injury.

Swimmum1206 · 19/07/2022 20:44

I'm not overweight, but I had a blood clot last year and that ankle is currently swollen and feels uncomfortable. DH keeps panicking incase I have another clot and takes some convincing that it's not! Apparently the veins are damaged, restricting the blood flow and this causes the swelling.

inmyslippers · 19/07/2022 20:45

Legs up the wall, it's bliss

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/07/2022 20:45

No, but I have dreadful probable heat rash in my knee pits. It wasn't even that hot here, but it's the only explanation that I have ☠️

BusySittingDown · 19/07/2022 20:48

I'm not overweight (BMI is 20) but my legs always swell in the heat too! My feet turn into puddings.

Dunno why - I drink plenty of water.

Pixiedust1234 · 19/07/2022 20:52

Yes they have. Only done this the past 3 years but I'm hoping its the kick i need to start losing weight. Six months of steroids are not helping either grrrr

amusedbush · 19/07/2022 20:57

No, they don't swell up, which is odd because I am wildly hypermobile and my ankles are particularly loose/unsupported. I have badly injured them over the years but they are still the slimmest part of me!

My face has puffed up to the point I look like the moon emoji, though 🌝

Gilead · 19/07/2022 21:02

Very overweight (thank you steroids) but fortunately no swelling.

Arnaquer · 19/07/2022 21:04

Mine are today. I really suffered when I was pregnant it haven't really had it since.

FelicityBeedle · 19/07/2022 21:05

Overweight (+++) and a bit swollen, but I’ve been on the past three days (13 hours hospital shifts) and they always swell a bit by day two. This is worse though

Decafflatteplease · 19/07/2022 21:05

Yep, socks digging in.

BMI 37 ☹️

NanaRant · 19/07/2022 21:23

Potassium is your friend. Celery, celery juice, coconut water...look it up

Redcrayons · 19/07/2022 21:28

Not overweight but mine are. I can barely see my ankle bones. I’ve been sloshing down water all day so not sure what’s going on.
