continueorterminate · 19/07/2022 18:05

I'm glued to sky news in disbelief. Also can't believe bbc don't seem to be covering it. Tragic. Do we know of any casualties?

It's only about 8 miles from here.

Do they know how it started?

It’s awful, I feel so sorry for anyone affected and hope the fire service stay safe

GodspeedJune · 19/07/2022 18:09

It’s dreadful. I hope people and animals have been evacuated in time.

continueorterminate · 19/07/2022 18:10

Thought I heard there were 3 separate bbqs that started 3 of them. Might have misheard though as it was just as I turned it on

WinterMusings · 19/07/2022 18:19

Just saw the news clip about the falls that are bone dry too & the problems in Europe

Gingermoth · 19/07/2022 18:19

Just a few of the fires raging today in greater London! Homes and businesses destroyed in some cases.

for the love of god, please no BBQs, chucking cigarettes on the ground, glass bottles littered or any other fire creating methods when it is so hot and dry! It just takes one spark! The firebrigade are begging…

TheWeeDonkey · 19/07/2022 18:24

It's shocking. It's over such a large area and looks very fierce and spreading so quickly. I think they said on Sky it started as a barbecue fire. They can be so dangerous.

My heart goes out to the people affected by it.

Nc58985 · 19/07/2022 18:25

It’s just awful. All those poor families who have lost their homes.

Those fire fighters working in this heat are just incredible. I can’t imagine how tough that must be.

TeapotTitties · 19/07/2022 18:28

It's dreadful. I'm currently pet sitting for my friend who was evacuated this afternoon.

She has no idea whether her house has burnt down or not. The police knocked and she had just a few minutes to grab her pets, car keys and some medication.

SnottyLottie · 19/07/2022 18:59

Sadiq Khan is allegedly asking people not to have BBQs in London today and tomorrow because of all these incidents.

GirlInACountrySong · 19/07/2022 19:00

i saw a request for no barbecues and no swimming (13 people died so far)

PuckeredArseFace · 19/07/2022 19:03

Jesus, get rid of the fucking adverts so we can see what's happening

SnottyLottie · 19/07/2022 19:04

I’ve just seen an interview where they said that if we continue getting heat waves like this we might have to adapt to prevent wild fires occurring and spreading; like how they do in Australia. This would include having complete bans on BBQs or anything with an open flame. It would essentially mean that during hotter days it might become illegal to have a BBQ in your back garden.

Neighbours on Mumsnet rejoice

Northernsoullover · 19/07/2022 19:12

But it's just summer! All this hysteria over summer! Get a grip people.
(The above is a piss take in case anyone misses it)

TotalRhubarb · 19/07/2022 19:15

It’s very near my parents’ house. Worrying and so awful for goose caught up in it.

GirlInACountrySong · 19/07/2022 19:16

im 20 miles away from the fires.....i was sat in the garden earlier and it was really windy, the fence was rattling
