"date" ??

It's a bowl Confused

Its quite a nice bowl. Does it matter if it isn't the height of fashion in a decade?

Preeeettyprettygood · 19/07/2022 15:16

Think the heat has definitely gotten to some people today 😂😂

ShirleyPhallus · 19/07/2022 15:18

Will it date? Do you mean will it romance other kitchen items? Not sure, is it up for a good forking?

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/07/2022 15:21

As that style of bowl has been going since the 1970s and is still popular i dont think theres much danger of it looking outdated and scandi style never dates

Oneminutespeace1 · 19/07/2022 15:36

Oh, how I love Mumsnet. Thank you ladies! It was the part glazed thing and the speckles... as you can tell, I know nothing about this and I thought perhaps that was a “now” thing.

If you are interested in keeping up with the latest trends, then yes it will. Just the same as the brown bowls in the 70s that were replaced with red and white spotty ones in the 80s, then eternal beau, then possibly something teal… just look in the charity shops to see what has gone out of fashion.

Does that matter? Not one jot if you like it. I think it is lovely.

I have an eclectic range of China, though, and no interest in fashion.

That made me laugh.

AreolaGrande · 19/07/2022 15:49

It's a boring basic bowl

Hardly the Prince splashback from the other day 🤣

It will be retro in no time at all.

It's really pleasing and looks '70's.

RudsyFarmer · 19/07/2022 15:53

Pmsl I was prepared to see a grey kitchen and shout YES!!!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/07/2022 15:53

It's part glazed because you can't put glazing directly on the kiln shelf as it sticks, so they make a feature of it.

I really like it and by the time it dates you'll have broken them all. They just look like nice rustic bowls to me and thank God they're not grey!

Starlitexpress · 19/07/2022 15:55

What the hell was the prince splashback?

User354354 · 19/07/2022 15:58

Is that the price for one bowl?!

midairchallenger · 19/07/2022 15:59

Everything "dates" , isn't that how the passage of time works?

nomistake · 19/07/2022 16:07

Wish I overthought £13 purchases like you OP. I'd be a lot richer.

I imagine the OP is considering the whole set.

PestorPeston · 19/07/2022 16:16

You may also be able to find a local potter who makes similar www.whitehorsepottery.co.uk/product/Benjamin-bowl

TenRedThings · 19/07/2022 16:16

With the lifespan of crockery in my household I'd be bankrupt long before it had a chance to date !

chiffchaffchiff · 19/07/2022 16:18

I really like it. I have some speckly tableware myself (Denby Halo range). I bought it because my auntie had similar when I was little and I always admired them so I don't think it would really date.

I want to know this too!

@AreolaGrande please enlighten us!

YorkieTheRabbit · 19/07/2022 16:45

🤷‍♀️I’ve got bowls that are older than my dog, he’s 14, no one has ever fainted or refused to eat from them or run away in horror from them.

Violinist64 · 19/07/2022 16:46

I like it but then I grew up in the seventies. To my eyes it is a classic design and if you get several years’ use out of it and your tastes change at some point in the future and you decide you want a different design, it won’t owe you anything.
