? What’s your plan of action ? I’ve got meals that can be microwaved so no need for the oven to go on

OP posts:
Areil · 18/07/2022 07:13

Mid twenties here today and raining tomorrow (yes I'm in the uk) so it's business as usual.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 18/07/2022 07:16

I'm going to enjoy the beautiful weather and feel grateful that I didn't need to get on a plane to experience it.

SuperdrugKeysDemon · 18/07/2022 07:17

Salads and an electric fan.

I am in Cumbria though where it’s not quite as hot.

Cervinia · 18/07/2022 07:18

I’m going to lie in the dark like a vampire and only come out again when night falls.

Svara · 18/07/2022 07:18

Day job is work as usual, moved my outdoor second job to Tuesday evening

Svara · 18/07/2022 07:20

Giving my teen a lift to sport tonight so he's not walking 45 minutes at 5:30pm!

carefullycourageous · 18/07/2022 07:20

Have baked bread and bought loads of salad so no cooking.
Moved us to sleep downstairs.
All windows covered.
Bought bottled water just in case.
Frozen empty milk cartons of water to use as cold water bottles tonight.
Bought two fans.

I have also written a strong note in my child's planner that if they feel unwell school is to call me straight away, no pissing about!

daisyjgrey · 18/07/2022 07:20

See how it goes today and then go to the cinema because we booked tickets for tonight.

siblingrevelryagain · 18/07/2022 07:20

Loft hatch open
curtains and windows closed at back of house until 1pm, then the ones at the front drawn and windows at back opened as the sun moves round.
fans in bedrooms
wet, wrung our flannels in a box infridge to take to bed
frozen hot water bottles to take to bed too
No unnecessary trips to avoid risk if traffic/breakdown

MintJulia · 18/07/2022 07:20

Closed the curtains, windows all open in the early morning.

As for food, I cooked a ham yesterday, there's pate and cheese, plenty of salads.
bread, pickles. No-one has much of an appetite in the heat anyway. I made some lemonade.

I've just finished cleaning the windows, the washing is on the line, now I'm going to ease off for the day.

InDubiousBattle · 18/07/2022 07:21

I'll keep the curtains closed on the sunny side of the house, kids have a paddling pool. Lots of cold drinks. I work in a basement so it's cool down there. We're on the very edge of the red warning area and it's forecast to be 33/34 ish today so not as bad as in city centres.

fudfootedfannybangle · 18/07/2022 07:21

Looking at highs of 17 here today. Will go for a nice walk, do some gardening etc. might swim in the sea after work.

FFS climate change is not beautiful.

You deserve a fucking Darwin award.

Alarae · 18/07/2022 07:22

Going to sleep downstairs (dismantling my daughter's cot and building downstairs) and recently bought an air con unit.

Not much else to do!

User539280 · 18/07/2022 07:24

I'm in the hot zone where it may be 40/41 so will be watching tv in front of my fan with the curtains and windows closed, probably stuffing my face on various things from the fridge.

Monoandsix · 18/07/2022 07:24

Work. In my PJs.

Anothernamechangeplease · 18/07/2022 07:25

I'm starting work a bit earlier than usual to avoid the hottest part of the day, and am wfh to avoid the office. Keeping windows and curtains closed during the day. Eating light food. Drinking lots. I am used to these temperatures so not worried about it.

Whendovescry03 · 18/07/2022 07:27

I'm off to the office to enjoy the air con!

Furrybutts · 18/07/2022 07:28

I will be fine, I'm driving for most of the day so will have my air con on.
Will be doing the windows and curtains closed thing before I leave, and have a fan running on a timer in the living room for my dogs.
My only concern is the dogs not coping as they are elderly.
We are just returning from our morning walk now ( been out for an hour) I will give them a quick shower before I leave and only lightly dry them, so they should be good til I'm back around 1pm.

Unfortunately the heat doesn't put me off eating, so I will be cooking as usual this eve, airfryer though, not cooker.

bushtailadventures · 18/07/2022 07:33

I've booked taxis too and from work so I don't have to walk for 30 minutes each way in the heat (asthma is worse when it's hot)(costing me more than I earn too). Curtains and windows closed while it's sunny/hot. Salad and picky bits for meals.

JemimaPuddleducksWaddle · 18/07/2022 07:35

DH left for work at 6.

We are right in the heart of the red zone.

Will spend the day trying to keep DSC as cool as possible. (Their school is closed as their is an issue with the water) whilst saying no they can't go and meet their friends down the park. (The 'it's not fair has started already)

My DSis IL is coming round mid morning and will stay until early evening as she has a toddler and our house is cooler than theirs.

HelpMeGetThrough · 18/07/2022 07:35

Carrying on as normal here and will then enjoy the weather after work.

stuntbubbles · 18/07/2022 07:36

Sleeping downstairs. Curtains closed in the day, windows open at night (except last night because DP, the numpty, closed them all AAARGH). Living off salad, watermelon and melon; freezer full of ice lollies.

DP doing the nursery run both ways as I wilt in the slightest bit of heat and our house is still clinging to the heat from a week or so ago back when I was a naive simpleton who threw open the windows during the day. Thankful I work for myself on Mondays at least and WFH on Tuesdays.

Nursery closing early both days so we’ll then plug DD into ice lollies and, if the garden is shady and tolerable at that point, the paddling pool (I might climb in too).

AuntieMarys · 18/07/2022 07:40

A choice of 120 books. A fridge full of salad and nibbly bits.
No alcohol.
Might not do a spin class 🤣

MassiveSalad22 · 18/07/2022 07:45

We’ll be fine here I’m sure (Surrey so amber but only just!). I’m grateful we have many things at our disposal and aren’t in poverty, basically. Got some cooling dog mats in case we need them but think overkill. Already had fans and an AC in the kids’ room. Pool outside with 2 parasols. Freezer full of ice lollies. Very lucky. Loft hatch open, curtains closed.

Lollies in a thermos later for the pm school run!

lots of telly after going to friend’s house this morning!
