Employer not paying me

TeddyisMydog · 17/07/2022 19:08

I was told I would be paid by bank transfer today.
I finished my shift at 1.30pm and still haven't been paid, I've contacted the company twice but they just say it'll be paid today
Not really sure what to do

I imagine you'd have to wait until midnight? And then send an email/something in writing tomorrow if it's not there?

Sorry why midnight if they said today?
I'm really annoyed as I needed this money to go food shopping, I have very little in and was depending on it today so I could go shopping now

It’s Sunday so may not go through…. But to answer your question to PP it is today up til 23.59, so would till be today.

Kezzie200 · 17/07/2022 20:01

Do you work in hospitality where there may be a split of tips required? It will delay things until they can calculate it.

Jules912 · 17/07/2022 20:04

A bank transfer today wouldn't go through until tomorrow as banks only do the processing on weekdays. Saying that, i think it usually shows as pending on my online banking, but can't be sure as we get paid on Friday if normal payday falls on a weekend for this reason.

safetylastday · 17/07/2022 20:10

As pp today is up until 23:59

A bank transfer would go through today, I've transferred money over to my partner today and it went through fine. A BACS scheduled payment wouldn't go through today, but a bank transfer would.

Maverickess · 17/07/2022 20:19

I get paid by bank transfer on a Sunday (today in fact) and it always g

Maverickess · 17/07/2022 20:22

I'll try again!

It always goes through on the Sunday, the only thing holding it up is when the boss gets around to actually pressing the button as it were.

But as others have said you'll need to wait until 23:59 because it still counts as 'today' until then and therefore won't be late.

It sucks though when you're relying on it coming through and it comes through after shops etc are shut, I've been there.

easyday · 17/07/2022 20:34

When I've transferred money to my son it goes through on the day. When I pay my credit card it goes the next working day.

Does your contract state when you will be paid ? If so they are in breech of your contract, however that doesnt mean you then can refuse to work until they pay you (ACAS advice)

Ive had this, wasn't paid my salary for a few months! Lots of back and forth in writing with my bosses, promises of pay dates etc that came and went. I got ACAS involved. They are great with this sort of thing. Keep everything in writing so you have it all as evidence should you need it to take things further.

TeddyisMydog · 18/07/2022 07:22

I didn't get a contract annoyingly, I was actually paid yesterday it came through about 8.30pm but as suspected it hasn't gone through hmrc Confused

What do you mean "it hasn't gone through HMRC"? It was Sunday. HMRC don't work at the weekend. Can you please explain what the actual circumstances here are, because it's far from clear what your complaint is. You said you hadn't been paid - they paid you as agreed. So what is the problem and why do you think it's a problem. It's kind of odd to expect to be paid within hours of working (especially at a weekend).

The company isn't listed on my hmrc tax page, it was just a bank transfer payment
There is no problem now that I was paid

Does the HMRC info get updated straight away?

Does your employer give you payslips showing tax and NI deductions?

But I agree that being paid instantly at the end of a shift isn't a normal expectation. Almost all jobs are paid at the end of the month worked or a week in hand for a weekly paid job.

Kez200 · 18/07/2022 08:11

So, employers should send HMRC a FPS of payment before its paid. Given the speed of this payment, they should have sent the FPS yesterday too.

No way will that show on HMRC the same time. Their systems take at the very least overnight to record, often longer.

HMRC do not need to know in order for you to use your net pay for food so the story here is a drip feed one. If its something to do with benefits I've no experience as to how long it takes for an employers return of pay to be populated in their system.

TeddyisMydog · 18/07/2022 08:15

Oh for gods sake it isn't a drip feed!
It was a bank transfer payment, just the same and you and I could do
But now I'm worried it hasn't gone through hmrc and I don't know what to do, I don't don't think the company took my national insurance down but I can't remember if I gave it to them or not

How long have you worked for this company? When you start employment, they need to complete a new starter form, which will have your NI number on it and they'll want your P45 if they still exist (not sure now a lot is online and there's real time reporting of pay info).

TeddyisMydog · 18/07/2022 08:25

I have done 4 shifts
Not due back in until Friday and no I didn't complete any forms

Oblomov22 · 18/07/2022 08:26

Then your being paid cash in hand / casual labour. Not registered with HMRC?

L1ttledrummergirl · 18/07/2022 08:29

It may have been done out of normal procedure so processed as an loan which will then be deducted from your next pay having been pit through normal process.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/07/2022 08:34

Yes, it could be done as an advance that will be corrected on your normal pay day.

What have they told you about when normal pay day is? Weekly, fortnightly, month end? There's often a cut off which means that if you start mid month you wouldn't normally get paid until the end of the next month, but most places will be able to advance you some of what you've earned in the first week or two working with them to put you on.

TeddyisMydog · 18/07/2022 08:36

I'll be paid every Sunday which makes me think this is normal for them

If you completed no forms how do they know your bank account details to pay you?
