What meals can you do apart from salad without using an oven or much heat trying to think ahead a bit

OP posts:

Cold meats and cheeses - most supermarkets do packs

Sandwiches

Cold sausage rolls

Sushi

Bbq

Sandwiches, buffet style, supermarket deli counter offerings, ploughmans, cook up some pasta (I know that's hot) but then make some variants of cold pastas.

Jacket potatoes are never too bad in this weather if you have a cold topping.

We’re having salad as all week, just add anything you fancy.

Ham
Egg
salmon
tuna
crab
prawn
cheese

With lots of crusty bread,

iloveredwine · 16/07/2022 16:14

Quiche, new potatoes and salad

StrawberriesAndCreamPlease · 16/07/2022 16:14

Cooked salmon and cooked chicken with pre made salad

Tally111 · 16/07/2022 16:14

Crusty bread and dips, kiesche, sandwiches, sort of finger food you'd find at a party. That's what I'm planning anyway

bathbombaholic · 16/07/2022 16:15

I just bought some sushi for our dinner. Meat and veggie tho; we don't do seafood of any kind!

ShaunaTheSheep · 16/07/2022 16:16

Cook a gammon ahead (mine is in the slow cooker right now) and have it cold and sliced with salad, couscous etc.

Mol1628 · 16/07/2022 16:16

You could do wraps with veg/salad etc and if you want meat use chilled pre cooked pieces.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2022 16:19

I'm doing a prawn and avocado salad tonight. Tomorrow morning I'll be making up some salads - pasta salad, potato salad, tomato with mozerella and basil and some leafy salad. I'll boil some eggs and then people can help themselves over the next few days. Plenty of icecream and fruit.mNone of our appetites are huge at the moment.

liveforsummer · 16/07/2022 16:20

Pre boil some baby potatoes and eggs now and pre cook chicken. I use the air frier so doesn't give off any excess heat anyway but got my fridge stocked now with baby pots, eggs, chicken thighs and drums, cheeses, salad stuff, olives, cold meat, quiche. Also got mix of crackers, a tiger baton, cheese bread plus some part baked baguettes(air frier again) and wraps so we've food without cooking bar the baguettes for a few days.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/07/2022 16:20

Smoked mackerel pate and toast or crispbread here.

Pixies74 · 16/07/2022 16:20

If it's to reduce emitting heat, rather than because you don't want to eat anything hot, slow-cookers don't give out much.

My DC aren't a fan of salads so I'm going to do enough spag bol in the slow cooker for both Mon and Tues 😁

Might sound strange, though isn't there a theory that eating/drinking something hot cools you down anyway?!

I wish I'd done that now. Only thought of it after my shop but tbh think I've got plenty already 😆

houseargh · 16/07/2022 16:25

Sesame noodles (or other not hot noodle dishes) using the kind of noodles you can prep by pouring over freshly boiled water. My favourite recipe is Smitten Kitchen takeout style sesame noodles (weird, pasting of links not working)

merryhouse · 16/07/2022 16:30

cold-soaked oats (using yoghurt or fruit juice) with fresh or dried fruit and spices
bread and butter - with or without various sandwich fillings
salad - with or without tuna, cheese, seeds, basil leaves etc (and I suppose dressing if you like that kind of thing)
antipasti (olives, sundried tomatoes... erm.. et cetera)
dips; with lettuce, carrot, cucumber, Pringles or tortilla chips
pork pie - with salad and pickles oh and coleslaw
corned beef slices quite nicely if put in the fridge for a bit
summer pudding (needs a lot of advance warning)
fruit and yoghurt

I have never tried tinned boiled potatoes - anyone know? Otherwise if you're prepared to cook while it's slightly cooler you could have cold potato, or pasta, in your salad. Boiled eggs too (you can have them still slightly soft if you're careful when peeling). Sausages are delicious cold, chicken pieces edible.

cakes, sweets, biscuits, crisps, peanuts, ice creams, beer Grin

stuntbubbles · 16/07/2022 16:33

Last night we had stuffed vine leaves, Greek salad, hummus, tzatziki, green salad, and gigantes (from a jar).

Tonight is rotisserie chicken with aioli, baguette and green salad.

Tomorrow-Tuesday we’ll probably subsist entirely on watermelon and iced lollies; appetites always dip in the heat. Though I keep daydreaming of sitting in a particular shady taverna, eating calamari and chips and ice-cold beers, dipping in and out of the sea. A paddling pool in a London terrace garden doesn’t really cut it. 😭

Whataretheodds · 16/07/2022 16:49

Do you not eat any types of salad?
I've just had goats cheese, beetroot, cucumber, rocket, walnuts and lidl tomatoey lentils.
Yesterday had chopped tomatoes, cucumber, pepper and parsley with chickpeas.
Defrosted peas, courgette ribbons, mint and feta (no cooking) - could add pasta if you wanted.
You could do a nicoise - you'd only have to boil an egg (and potatoes)
Ready-made tomato soup eg covent garden, eaten cold.

With a food processor make your own dip

Yoghurt and fruit/ bircher muesli

BadNomad · 16/07/2022 17:02

If you want warm food then pre-cook everything now, then use the microwave to heat up on the day. If you want cold food then just eat it cold.

Marinated chicken wraps
