Rubbish time in Greek hotel.

bettyswaps1 · 13/07/2022 22:01

Myself and my teenage ds checked into our Greek holiday hotel this week. We are on ground floor room a metre away from a noisy reception. Our balcony is looking onto a bar which is less than 2 metres away. Noise from bar until midnight every night and noise from reception all day and night.

I am so disappointed with this holiday. I’ve tried asking hotel staff to see if we could move to be told no rooms. I then asked if we could be considered a different room when someone checks out. Again I got told no rooms and to shut my door. The music is blaring even with patio door shut and we can hear every conversation at reception.

i have heard several people checking in and out since our stay here.

i spoke to another member of staff about leaving the hotel early and if they would refund me, but they declined this. I was then offered another room but would need to pay an additional 50€ a night.

is it just a case of back luck and I need to suck it up? I have been polite to the staff at all times. Midnight here now so hopefully some peace from the bar side soon.

The 50€ A night room where is it?
if it’s that bad and finances could stretch I’d do it
but it’s shit and I’d be complaining

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/07/2022 22:05

I would be asking to speak to the manager rather than just members of staff.

EntertainingandFactual · 13/07/2022 22:06

I’m so sorry for you. I would hate that.

The only advice I can give us to keep asking. Have you got a travel rep?
Tell them that you can’t and won’t leave a good review as your holiday is being ruined. Tell them that you are aware that rooms become vacant and that you really do want to move.
Have you spoken to the hotel manager?

What were the reviews of the hotel like?

Mumsnut · 13/07/2022 22:09

I wonder …. If you continually popped your head out asked for quiet in reception and then in the bar area , it might force their hand.

Wartywart · 13/07/2022 22:11

Is it a package holiday with a tour operator? If so, try to find the rep and ask them to either move your room or move you to another hotel. If they won't do that, when you get home, write a letter of complaint to get a refund.

LesLavandes · 13/07/2022 22:13

What is the hotel?

bettyswaps1 · 13/07/2022 22:13

The 50€ a night is to move to another room at this hotel as it’s apparently counted as an upgraded room.

I think it’s a privately owned hotel and no management about. I will definitely be writing a bad review. Most of the reviews on trip advisor are great. It’s a clean, nicely decorated hotel and not in a party place.

thanks for listening to my moans. I know I should be grateful to be on holiday.

I would be playing annoying music to disturb reception so they offered to move me

maddy68 · 13/07/2022 22:39

Write a review now in trio advisor. Saying you are currently in the hotel. State the room number and their refusal to move you ...they will see it immediately.

This. Plus add photos of how close your balcony is to the hotel.

OP they are treating you appallingly. They are in breach of contract by not providing a room with reasonable noise volume and should either move you or refund you. However you have little bargaining power excepto post all over social media naming ans shaming them and make them aware you are doing so. I’d speak to the top manager first however.

You shouldn’t’be grateful’ you should be furious. You’ve paid for something you aren’t getting, they’re basically scamming you.

I used to work on a holiday resort it's awful because you know some of your units are dud's and that you have to put people into them for what is often their one holiday of the year. We used to resist moving people because we knew the next people In would just complain themselves. I hate to say it (I was v junior when there) but the people who got moved were those who made themselves a complete pain in the arse - so much so that it was worse for us to keep them there than put someone new in the unit. It was awful but the kind away decent people just got lumped was a rubbish room

So my advice is, make it really hard for them to keep you in that room.

user1477249785 · 13/07/2022 22:56

Duds. Not dud's. Odd autocorrect

bettyswaps1 · 13/07/2022 23:07

Thanks everyone. Bar is still lively but bass music has been changed to something less noisy. We have to be up at 6.30am to go on an excursion so I will be grumpy tomorrow. My DS has finally fallen asleep thankfully.

Its not a package holiday but was booked through an agent who I have emailed.

I have taken photos of how close our room is to reception and the bar outside. Our balcony has been used as clothes drying area as we haven’t wanted to sit out in it.

I just feel a bit hopeless as even if I get cross they can still carry on ignoring me.

Going to put pillow over my head and try get some sleep.

This 1000%...Really loud, doors open if they are being so uncompromising...

KatharineofAragon · 13/07/2022 23:49

Stand in reception and conduct a loud conversation about how dissatisfied you are. Demand to be moved. Don’t leave until they agree. The embarrassment and annoyance won’t be worth it for them. You really have to be a lot more insistent.

Commentqueen · 13/07/2022 23:49

Also agree with the poster who said about the trip advisor review, do it immediately so they'll see it..

Spaghetti0 · 13/07/2022 23:51

Tie advice about posting on Tripadvisor asap is the best.
keep On complaining

BritinDelco · 14/07/2022 02:42

Social media and TripAdvisor are your friends here, post accurate and scathing reviews and I guarantee they will move you if you take the review down. Or if you're confident being vocal repeatedly can work

Provenceinthesummer · 14/07/2022 02:54

I too would follow SM TA complaints - start crying loudly in a packed reception, that worked for me once. Demand to see the manager and refuse to take no for an answer. Get agent involved in the phone first thing.
if it’s any consolation France seems to be on its knees service wise. We had to leave the last (five star) hotel because they had no food at all - no room service - no chef and nowhere else to eat for 20 odd miles. All local restaurants closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Every service station is empty of supplies and dirty. It’s not just the U.K. that are struggling. In fact U.K. looks well run in comparison.
I hope they move you today op! And you can rest and sleep 😴

honkeytonkwoman38 · 14/07/2022 03:17

I would walk down the road into a hotel I liked the look of and check in there. This is a crap hotel and I wouldn't trust the agent if they booked this. However it will cost you but 🤷‍♀️ you can't get that time back with your son.

Iflyaway · 14/07/2022 03:30

Well, Provence, everywhere is on its knees at the moment, what with 2+ years of Covid causing mass upheaval and subsequent unemployment, rampant inflation, airport bedlam, war in Europe, Brexit problems....
Yep. The new normal.

Local restaurants closed Mondays and Tuesdays? Goodness me, how very fucking dare they??!!
It's their weekend!!

Or do you work 7 days a week? Not even time for doctor/dentist/family/to decompress...??!

Op, I really hope the hotel will move you to a room that is quieter.
An opportunity to step up into your power and not be fobbed off.

Aggressive attitudes as PP have suggested will get you nowhere. It just puts peoples's shackles up.
Good luck.

Honeyroar · 14/07/2022 03:31

That sounds really awful. You poor things. You’ve asked nicely twice, what have you got to lose about kicking up a fuss? Tell them you’re goi g to leave bad reviews. Take names of who you’re speaking to. Stay in reception at a busy time and refuse to move, get i the way..

Roselilly36 · 14/07/2022 04:10

How disappointing, yes as others have said, keep on at them, they must have people checking in and out all the time, of course they can move you, if they want too. Be persistent. Try to make the most of your holiday.

TheBikiniExpert · 14/07/2022 05:24

I feel for you! Ground floor rooms are the worst. I learnt that the hard way after an experience in Venice - noisy with rats! I agree about kicking up a fuss. Good luck!
