Are any schools cancelling? I guess they wouldn’t obtain refunds but surely it’s unwise to take year groups of children to theme park this Mon/Tue?

My son is due to attend and am considering keeping him at home, ‘sick’.

Anyone else?

Erm... I can only hope this is a PFB

Haggisfish3 · 13/07/2022 20:44

Ours is being postponed.

Snowraingain · 13/07/2022 20:44

I’m taking my class across London on two tubes on Monday. We won’t get a refund if we cancel.
Thoughts and prayers welcome.

What is the educational value of a trip to a theme park?

Walkerbean16 · 13/07/2022 20:47

Mine went on Monday when it was 32degrees.

He had a great time.

It was also his birthday so saved us doing a party.

Sharrowgirl · 13/07/2022 20:49

Mine are going Tuesday when it’s 35 degrees. Nothing from the school yet about cancelling.

I would hate it but the kids don’t seem to notice so much? I’m planning to let them go if the trip is still on.

MuddlingThroughLifeLittleByLittle · 13/07/2022 20:49

It's fine. How is it any different to you booking a day in advance for the summer and it being a heatwave. You wouldn't get refund.
Plenty of water.

Heatwave2022 · 13/07/2022 20:49

@Snowraingain good luck with that!

@jgw1 no idea.

They're not supposed to be educational, they're supposed to be fun.

Notanotherwindow · 13/07/2022 20:53

Don't be daft. Slap on plenty of sunscreen, frozen bottle of water and a hat. He'll be perfectly fine and enjoy himself regardless of the heat.

Heatwave2022 · 13/07/2022 20:53

@MuddlingThroughLifeLittleByLittle if I had booked for school holidays then I wouldn’t be going, would willingly lose the money. I’m aware that’s not so easy for schools though as families will expect to be refunded.

@alphapie not PFB, no. Extreme heat at a theme park sounds like hell on earth for the teachers/staff as well as the children.

Keep him home if he doesn't want to go but it's no different to being in Disney at this time of year. Get him to wear shorts and a lose top, plenty of water + sunscreen

NewYorkLassie · 13/07/2022 20:55

Log flume and rapids all day!

FawnFrenchieMum · 13/07/2022 20:55

My DS is going on Tuesday. I assume it will go ahead. I’ll make sure he has a water bottle and a hat.

Heatwave2022 · 13/07/2022 20:55

@noblegiraffe I agree but Alton Towers etc doesn’t sound like much fun for staff or pupils early next week.

OP posts:
Heatwave2022 · 13/07/2022 20:58

He wants to go. Have been sending him to school with hat/sunscreen/frozen bottle anyway but thank you for suggestions.

Looks like I’m being overly anxious!

To you it doesn't sound fun but the children will think it's fun. You aren't going so you don't need to think it's fun.

Glenthebattleostrich · 13/07/2022 21:05

DD went on Monday, it was 29 degrees. I made sure she had plenty of frozen water in her bag, a fan and money to buy iced drinks.

They had a whale of a time! Absolutely loved it.

Booked · 13/07/2022 21:05

Alton Towers? They'll all be soaked from those squirty boats. Don't even need to queue for them.

Yeah, it'll be fine. How do you think theme parks in hotter countries cope?

Sunnysal · 13/07/2022 21:06

Wouldn't cross my mind not to go. Gets a lot hotter in Florida. Don't overthink it.

PatriciaHolm · 13/07/2022 21:11

DD works at one and lots of things break down in the heat! So not only is everyone hot and bothered because, well, they are hot, but also annoyed because rides are broken....

but yes, lots of suncream, water, money for ice cream if allowed, and a chat about patience ;-)

3WildOnes · 13/07/2022 21:13

I've been to theme parks in Florida and California in similar temperatures so it wouldn't cross my mind to cancel.

Heatwave2022 · 13/07/2022 21:13

I guess IABU (wasn’t brave enough to post in AIBU). 🙂

Oh, I thought learning new things was fun?
