Who do you think will win?

I reckon Rishi.

I'm really really going to be so disappointed if bloody Rishi gets it. We need a GE if he reckons the majority want an out of touch billionaire with one foot in America until recently. His video is revolting and patronising. He was happy to eat cake with bloody Johnson. However I think unless Jeremy Hunt pulls it out the bag we are stuck with him. Nads and Mogg have given the kiss of death to Truss.

savebuckbeak · 12/07/2022 18:26

Personally I like Rishi. So what if he’s a billionaire? It’s hardly like any of the candidates are working class or have any experience of being hard up. Nadhim Zahawi too. Haha, wdym about Truss?

OP posts:
OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:32

Aren't they backing her? And they are so terrible. Mind you Hancock is on LBC wittering on about Rishi being amazing so I expect he's been promised his job back.

savebuckbeak · 12/07/2022 18:33

They are backing her yep. But I don’t really think that’ll count against her?

Rishi voting record

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:34

Depends if you think Mogg and Dorries are credible? I wouldn't want them as my cheerleaders!

savebuckbeak · 12/07/2022 18:36

I don’t think they’re credible at all, but I don’t necessarily think that’ll stop the rest of the parliamentary Tory party voting for her.

OP posts:
Remainiac · 12/07/2022 18:38

I think we might get one of the women. They can all get in the sea as far as I’m concerned.

savebuckbeak · 12/07/2022 18:41

@OneFrenchEgg They Work For You isn’t really a reliable or accurate way of gauging politicians and their motives and agendas. Statements like “generally voted against human rights” aren’t actually helpful and massively simplify the issue as the Government often votes against bills or policies tabled by the Opposition as they have their own policy or initiatives. Plus, if there’s a three line whip they have to vote in accordance with the party line anyway.

Rinatinabina · 12/07/2022 18:44

I think Truss will win, feel it in my waters.

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:44

I'm happy with it as an overview. If you have better sources please feel free to share.

PermanentTemporary · 12/07/2022 18:44

They're all fucking awful. Even Hunt has come out with some batshit nonsense - bringing back hunting for fuck's sake. Braverman is going for flat tax nonsense. Badenoch wants to reduce the police. Zadawi wants 20% less special school places and GPs. It feels like Br**it was the tequila worm that has put all the crappiest purulent nonsense the Spectator ever flirted with into the atmosphere. And they're SO corrupt. Mogg and Truss using Downing Street for party announcements! Fuck them all.

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:47

We won't have any say in it - isn't it last two next week and then the members (who chose bloody Boris) get to pick?
LBC are talking about tactical voting and Rishi being the forerunner and trying to angle for who he wants to go against.
I think we should have a GE, although I think we are doomed to blue for eternity now.

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:48

Truss record, as she's come up. Am I wrong - did she write a book about grammar at some stage?

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 18:52

No, Lyn Truss is grammar, Liz Truss is British books.

Teddeh · 12/07/2022 18:56

I wouldn't mentally disqualify anyone over their supporters, because there are all kinds of reasons for publically supporting a candidate. There will be genuine allies who urged the person to run, and people bartering support for a plum role in the new cabinet. But there's also game playing and strategic support - just for example, I could see someone who wants Sunak seeing he's comfortably ahead and instead throwing public support behind, say, Truss or Tugendhat thinking that's a less formidable candidate than Mordaunt or Badenoch (who are most popular with the membership) for Sunak to face in the final two. I don't think any candidate can, would, or should speak up and say "um, sorry, Jacob - I don't want your vote!"

That said, I also found it interesting to see Michael Gove supporting Badenoch.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/07/2022 19:04

I think Rishi will do well and is likely to be in the top two but once you throw the vote out to conservative members they will be more interested in whichever lower-taxes candidate that makes it through, Truss probably.

BreadInCaptivity · 12/07/2022 19:11

That said, I also found it interesting to see Michael Gove supporting Badenoch.

She worked for him as part of the levelling up remit for some time.

So I'm inclined to think it's not some political gambit, but that he actually rates her.

His ex-wife Sarah Vine is gender critical as is Kemi (and they are apparently still on good terms) so that might also be a factor 🤷‍♀️

ThreeRingCircus · 12/07/2022 19:17

Personally, I think it should be Tom Tugendhat or possibly Kemi as I think you need someone totally new and that isn't tainted by closeness to Johnson. Rishi was fined during partygate so that would go against him for me, I think the party needs to distance itself from Boris Johnson's record and needs an overhaul.

But I'm not one of the people voting so who the fuck knows who it'll actually end up being. I remember in the previous race saying "no way will Boris Johnson end up being our Prime Minister" so my instincts are way off! 🙃

Veralil · 12/07/2022 19:23

Tories have changed protocols again today with regard to not allowing Labour to have a vote of no confidence. What the actual hell is happening in and to our country ?
I don't want any of these candidates to ever be our PM.

balalake · 12/07/2022 19:38

I think Rishi Sunak will be one of the final two, and the other one in the final two will be chosen, as being more to their liking on policy. The older Tory membership want tax cuts and something nearer to their ideal of a true Conservative in policy terms.

Probably Liz Truss (God help the country if so) or Penny Morduant.

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 19:55

I just don't get what is in it for Rishi except status. He's richer than Midas, no history of doing good that I'm aware of, that cringey footage of talking about having posh friends, wrote off the fraudulent lockdown claims, backed Boris while also setting the framework for Rwady4Rishi, I don't think it's anything more than personal gains.
I'd love MPs or cabinet ministers to have to prove a commitment prior to office to improving life for people through work or volunteering or charity.

CalistoNoSolo · 12/07/2022 20:02

Kemi Badenoch hacked into an labour website - highly illegal by any standards. She's just as bad as the rest news.sky.com/story/tory-vice-chair-kemi-badenoch-admits-hacking-labour-mps-website-11323056

OneFrenchEgg · 12/07/2022 20:20

Bloody hell they are all crap.
