We are looking to go to Glasgow to see a friend. I’m trying to find a cheap but not terrible hotel/accommodation. It would be the first week in August so summer holiday time. I haven’t been before so not sure on the area but does anyone have any recommendations? I have come across Travel Lodge, Queen Street, any advice on that one? Thank you.

I've stayed in the Travelodge in Hill Street. I don't remember it being noisy but you have to park in a nearby Car Park and finding my way in when the roads were busy was a bit of a challenge.

Georgieporgie29 · 12/07/2022 21:30

Ok last ones I promise. These are all premier inns
george square
cambuslang
city centre south
Glasgow east
pacific quay
buchanan galleries

i don’t mind not being on the doorstep 20-30 mins out is fine. I will find out the exact area that friend lives but he will also be happy to meet us in places. We would also like to do something a bit touristy whilst there.

What about the Leonardo in Great Western Road. It's not bang slap in the middle of town but accessible to public transport and also has parking. DD and I stayed there once when visiting family. It was a bit dated but clean. We stayed during the pandemic so no facilities open but there is a bar and restaurant and an M&S food place at the garage next to the hotel for snacks.

Also if you don't mind being a bit out of town there is the Premier Inn in Bearsden. It's got parking and is one of the cheaper Premier Inns in the Glasgow area. It's also next to Mcdonalds and a pub!!

Georgieporgie29 · 12/07/2022 21:34

That’s available and not a bad price thanks

I live near Govan.

Premier Inn at Atlantic Quay would be my first choice. It has parking. Right next to the River Clyde.

Science Centre is almost next door.

You can walk into the city centre and the west end.

If you cycle, even better you can use Next Bikes to get about. £1 for half an hour. You'd be staying on a bike route.

Georgieporgie29 · 12/07/2022 21:36

Sorry that should have replied to your first message. 2nd one also available and even cheaper thanks

George Square/Buchanen Galleries are very central location but no parking. City Centre South might actually be the best shout, you're still a bit of a walk from the actual city centre over the river but it's got parking onsite.

Pacific Quay would be not bad either, you're just south of the West End of the city there. I see they do charge a fiver for parking for 24 hours but I don't think that's too bad.

Forget Glasgow East/Cambuslang, you're pretty far out there with not much round about you.

Scianel · 12/07/2022 21:38

In summary if I were you I'd probably pick City Centre South or Pacific Quay if I was coming up by car but still wanting to be relatively central.

Been here on business. Completely agree with location recommendation . Village hotel opposite is also nice and has a pool ( more expensive but worth checking price of)

soupmaker · 12/07/2022 21:42

*sorry meant Pacific Quay.

I'd avoid the Govan Travelodge. There is SFA near it.

janeseymour78 · 12/07/2022 21:48

I live in Glasgow and I wouldn't stay in Govan - and that's coming from someone who is from there!
Although near science centre as above might be ok. Motel 1 or Holiday Inn sound good. George Sq and Buchanan Gal also fine

parenthood1989 · 12/07/2022 21:53

The St Enoch premier inn is good

PITAneighbour · 12/07/2022 21:53

SFA?

FitAt50 · 12/07/2022 21:56

Motel 1 is great, amazing value and looks very high end with incredible staff. Brand new Premier Inn St Enoch's is vert good value also.

soupmaker · 12/07/2022 21:56

Sweet Fuck All

soupmaker · 12/07/2022 21:56

Also Scottish Football Association. Ironically.

Haudyourwheesht · 12/07/2022 21:58

What about the village inn out by the BBC? Much closer than Govan but I think it's reasonable and you can nip across the bridge to the city centre.

weegiemum · 12/07/2022 21:59

Holiday in EK has a pool but no longer a spa. My dd2 worked there but it closed down a few weeks ago.

cheapskatemum · 12/07/2022 22:00

We always stay in Premier Inn when we visit relatives in East Kilbride & find them very comfortable with good service & great breakfasts!

tass1960 · 12/07/2022 22:06

Braehead isn't that far away - free parking and good bus service. I would say 20 minutes max from town centre.

Narcos · 12/07/2022 22:11

I stayed at Pacific Quay last week and had a fab view!

Motel 1 is great value. I think there's also a Premier Inn out by Stepps which could be handy if you're driving and has a nearby train station that takes you into the city centre.

Jofergo · 12/07/2022 23:39

I had a crap stay in malmaison - there is a huge development backing onto it and got woken at 07:30 both days of my stay.

The Novotel is in the same area and I worry it would be affected too. I ended up wishing I'd stayed in the Ibis styles...

Georgieporgie29 · 13/07/2022 09:19

Ok so if it’s just the 3 of us then either premier inn pacific quay or motel 1 (just waiting for them to come back to me with price)

if teenager wants to come as we’ll need 2 rooms and it becomes quite pricey it will either be Wallace street apartments or ibis budget Glasgow Cumbernauld.

what do you think?
