Hypnos, Simba, or Emma?

What mattress should we get??

Doth myself and dp have niggling back issues, we have bought a new sofa which is getting delivered next month, and are looking at getting a new mattress as well. Want to get something quality so it lasts, and we have a noticeable difference in comfort and sleep.

But cant decide between hypnos (premier inn bed), emma, or simba! They have sales on atm so are all around £500-£600, so no massive difference in price that can sway us either way, so thought i would ask for personal experience!

Does anyone strongly recomend or strongly advise against any of our options??

Thank goodness. I thought this was a baby name thread at first glance.

I can't comment on Emma or Simba but have not long bought a Hypnos bed.
I stayed in a Premier Inn a few times to check I really did like it.
I absolutely love it, so so comfortable. I went for the firmest mattress, which might not be for everybody, but I love it.

Something it does say in the blurb is about what base you are putting in on can affect the mattress. Your post sounds like you aren't buying a base, so you may be driven by whatever base you currently have.

IseeScottishhills · 09/07/2022 07:14

I have a Simba now on the spare bed I hate it. Previously bought a Leesa loved it but I dont think they are distributed in the UK any more.

Me three!

I'd go for the Hypnos. I always sleep well in a premier inn and I have a niggly back.

ChatterMonkey · 09/07/2022 07:21

It would be going on a hard divan base that we already have, wouldn't have thought it would make too much difference as all divans are just a solid surface?

Divan is fine, it's the slatted base they mention in their literature.

Me four.

Simba is SUCH a more interesting baby name than MN sponsored Emma so I’d vote that

I think with Emma you can have it for 30 days and return it if you don’t like it?

LeuvenMan · 09/07/2022 07:29

We're on our second Hypnos, (but it's a zip & link king size, not the premier inn one ) really comfortable.
I stay in Premier Inns a bit with work, and these are also very comfortable

ChatterMonkey · 09/07/2022 07:33

My parents have the premier inn hypnos and they love it, but not sure if thats just because they have the massive super king one so they have lots of space. We would only have the room for the double. Im wary in case the biggest comfort of the hotel ones is the size, and when you get the double mattress, its just an expensive normal mattress.

Not on your list, but we have an Eve original hybrid and we absolutely love it. They are a similar sort of product/price to the brands you mention.

We love ours so much, we bought others for our DD and our spare bed, and recommended them to FIL who also loves his.

IseeScottishhills · 09/07/2022 07:35

Our simba has been on a hard divan base and a softer one still hate it. You sleep on it not in it it doesnt welcome you into bed and i find it very hot. Ok perhaps hate is to strong a word over the years Ive slept on some bloody awful mattresses its not lumpy or anything like that it just not great. I find our sofa more comfortable! I love the Leesa I certainly wouldn't buy another Simba.

ChatterMonkey · 09/07/2022 07:41

Oo just had a look at the eve mattress and really like the sound of it!

Was a bit wary about the emma or simba as I've never had a memory foam mattress and know you either love them or hate them.

Eve looks like a bit of memory foam but pocket spring based so the best of both worlds?

We have a simba which has been moved to the spare room as it's way to soft - my DP has back issues and we've brought a much firmer pocket sprung mattress and he has no issues now.

I have a Nectar and like that. Might also be worth a look

We are on our second Hypnos bed. We love it.

Me too. Phew.

We have just bought an orthopaedic mattress from Hypnos (although it was quite expensive). It's very nice and no lumpy areas.

I thought about the Simba type mattresses but was put off by some people finding them very uncomfortable (I have joint issues so need to be careful). Also there were quite a few comments about a ridge developing in the middle of double mattresses which put me off.

Oomph · 09/07/2022 08:03

Not on your list, but similar: I did this exact research 3 years ago, because of my partner’s bad back. We bought a Casper and love it. It’s very comfortable and well made, also combining memory foam with latex and springs.

We had an emma mattress and it was the worst mattress I've ever had.
I also suffer with back problems.
It was hot and uncomfortable (despite it saying it keeps going cool), it also seemed lumpy and distorted in shape.
It was fine for the first 2 weeks then then very quickly became uncomfortable.

I did ask for a replacement which they sent - but this was a 'refurbished' product, which seemed to have the indent of the previous owner in it.

Ended up getting rid and got a silent night mattress instead.

NiceTwin · 09/07/2022 12:38

My Hypnos is a double and it is just like the king, not just like an ordinary mattress.

Madbadandusuallysad · 09/07/2022 12:43

We have a simba luxe.it is the biggest and expensive mistake we have ever made. The zip to the mattress cover broke just after the return period. So the cover is now redundant. The mattress itself is too hot and lumpy, and not at all supportive or firm. Massively disappointed and really wish we had just returned it early on.
