Three beautiful baby Wrens.

Mum is absolutely gorgeous and attentive but so small 😭

Apologies for terrible picture. Don't want to disturb them too much.
Have put small dishes of water round the garden and mum has been in and out of the hedges searching for food ❤️

Aww amazing ! Can you Google what food you can give them and scatter it around .

Skinnermarink · 08/07/2022 20:46

Aw wonderful! What a lovely nest they constructed.

Skinnermarink · 08/07/2022 20:48

Water definitely helpful. Wrens aren’t really open ground feeders and you don’t want to leave them exposed to predators by putting food about, Im pretty sure they’re mainly invertebrate eaters anyway

DeanStockwelll · 08/07/2022 20:55

@Skinnermarink you could be right , yes scattering on the ground may not be a good idea , a feeder would be better.

Apparently they like berries too so hopefully @BigRedDuck has a black/red/ raspberry bush near by.

BigRedDuck · 08/07/2022 21:14

Plenty of berry bushes nearby which would explain why she has been hopping into BILs garden!
Apparently only eat insects. DH going to get some mealworm tomorrow and see if she likes that.

Every time she flies in they are so loud and beautiful. If only my children greeted me like that 😂😂😂😂😂

Update for anyone who is interested.

Babies have been Very Loud today, mum looks like she could do with a break.

In the meantime, DH has set them up a little larder in the Ash tree 😂 Water and some mealworm but we don't think she will go for the mealworm. She has drunk some water though 😊

Oh mummy Wren congratulations. I can't see your new babies but I know they must be adorable.

BigRedDuck · 10/07/2022 01:19

I don't think it will be too long until they fly!

I've finally managed to get some pictures. And the best news is... We have four babies, not 3!!!!! They are very inquisitive today and I can hear them from where I am working on my computer. Mum has been in and out all morning and has been drinking the water we laid out for her.

DH is very proud of his larder. 😂

Hi babies. 😘😘😘😘😍😍😍😍

DeanStockwelll · 11/07/2022 21:04

Great photo @BigRedDuck inspired by this thread I bought a suet block and cage to put it in and a shallow water bowl .

I haven't seen any birds at it yet but I only put it up yesterday afternoon

BigRedDuck · 11/07/2022 22:57

We are very lucky here, lots of tits, a resident Robin and we have a family of woodpeckers arrived this year. Usually we have swallows but I haven't seen any thos summer. 😢

We do have a homing pigeon who has rocked up. We call him Peter. 😁

Where do you get meal worm from?

Riapia · 11/07/2022 23:09

Imagine the heat generated by four little bodies packed in that nest.

Wolfiefan · 11/07/2022 23:11

Bless those babies! 😍

BigRedDuck · 11/07/2022 23:12

@MondayMoan just in our local garden centre. They don't like it though.

They look very cosy! My bedroom is 10000000 degrees so can't imagine what the nest is like!

Aww they're lovely 😊

BigRedDuck · 12/07/2022 08:40

All calm and quiet this morning. They're all looking at the mad lady who checks the best every 2 hours 😂

Wilfred, Wilhelmina, William and Wendy have been a bit boisterous today. Ddog and I found Wilfred (well who knows which one but we will say Wilfred because Wilhelmina is enormous - for a wren-) on the floor, hopping about, having been pushed out of the nest and not been able to fly.

I probably did the wrong thing but I picked him up after he calmed down a bit and popped him back in the nest. Mum has been in and out since but I hope she doesn't abandon him 😔

Wilhelmina and I had words about being boisterous. Ddog very upset he couldn't play with his new friend!

Oh no poor Wilfred, I hope he is OK and gets his fair share of the grub now.

When I got home from work last night I saw the suet block had been almost all gone , chuffed that I had fed the local spartows , tits Robins etc , but bit miffed that they had also eaten all of the seed that I had put out to grow my cat some grass .
This morning saw two fat wood pigeons polishing off the suet. So it seems I may not of been feeding the little birds .
Ah well they all need food and water I guess .

Daleksatemyshed · 13/07/2022 11:17

Firstly Op thank you for being kind and taking care of your garden birds. They won't take dry mealworms because the babies can choke on them, you need to soak them in warm water overnight then your visitors will love them!

DeanStockwelll · 13/07/2022 12:39

Warm Worm soup , mmm tasty lol 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/07/2022 12:51

Aren't animals amazing the way they just instinctively know how to care for nurture and protect their babies.

Daleksatemyshed · 13/07/2022 13:48

@DeanStockwelll yeah it smells lovely, nice with some crusty bread! Best to do them in something with a tight lid, the smell tones down by the morning. Seriously though in baby season the birds go mad for them
