HELP!!! Washing machine door stuck closed....

SummerSazz · 07/07/2022 20:50

Anyone got any ideas how to open it??

  • I've turned it off
  • Locked it and unlocked with the key button
  • started it on a wash and then turned it off

What am I missing? DD15 has a non-uniform day tomorrow and then sleepover and she put her clothes into the wash for these events 🙈

Is it drained? Have you opened the little door at the bottom?

FrankGrillosFloof · 07/07/2022 20:51

Is the lock broken? There’s a trick with a loop of string - lots of vids on you tube.

Maireas · 07/07/2022 20:51

Unplug it and leave it.
Maybe the lock mechanism hasn't cooled down enough?

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 07/07/2022 20:54

Theres often a lever to unlock the door manually. Mine is behind the bottom panel on the front of the machine, where you find the access to drain it too. Pull that lever ( often looks a bit like a cable tie) and the door will open.

HannahSternDefoe · 07/07/2022 20:56

What make/model is it?
Google the instruction manual.
There is always a way in that doesn't involve either a hammer or crowbar

SummerSazz · 07/07/2022 20:58

That's brilliant, thanks everyone

Pretty sure it's drained so will try and find a manual handle. It's clicking as though unlocked so hopefully that will work

Otherwise the manual I hate reading instruction manuals

Found the release pull but that didn't work

Will try the string trick next...

When the handle fell off my old machine, I opened it by sliding my library card into the door jamb which popped it open a treat

That sounds easier than string!

Drain and spin it, let the cycle finish properly and then it should open.

That's what I need to do on mine when it plays silly buggers on me.

SummerSazz · 07/07/2022 21:26

The card didn't work and nor did the string (this felt like the best chance) 😩

Will try the spin cycle

Do you think the latch is broken?

FunkyPhantom · 07/07/2022 21:33

Depending on the make and model.......pull the machine out and see if you can release some screws and remove the top of the machine.

You might be able to see where the door mechanism is and reach down and release it??

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 07/07/2022 21:37

Check the Lost Property hatch!!
Be a thong /sock /hair bobble stuck in there...
Then should open.

takeabrolly · 07/07/2022 21:39

Try thumping the catch. Worked when mine was stuck

Southlandssue · 07/07/2022 21:45

Try looking on YouTube for your specific model, we managed two different washing machine fixes through lockdown with the guidance of YouTube (and saved a fortune)

No idea where my lost property hatch is and even if I did I'd be very surprised to find a thing in there Grin

After this cycle I will try thumping!

The lock sounds like it's unclicked but I can't seem to release the latch with the tried and tested suggestions so no idea!

How old is the machine? Making a clicking noise after final spin but not always opening was the beginning of the end for my old one. Sometimes turning if off for a while worked but eventually the door lock just stuck stuck and died, but it was at least 13 years old at that stage.

New one has done it twice, had to spend quite some time on phone to manufacturer customer services. Re-runing a spin cycle solved it both times. They also told me to manually drain it to ensure there was no water in it (there wasn't so that didn't help).

Floella22 · 07/07/2022 21:56

Push the door as if your shutting it.
Then try the handle.

Has a child lock come on? I have a Bosch machine and called up John Lewis telling them my new machine was broken after trying everything to open it and that they needed to send a replacement. Turned out I had somehow activated a child lock function 😳 No idea how I did or how to do it again. Anyway, they talked me through how to unlock. Could check your manual to see if it has that function?

SummerSazz · 07/07/2022 21:59

It's probably about 4 or 5 years old so would have though it should be ok

I'm running a short cycle to see if that will reset it
