HELP!!! Washing machine door stuck closed....

Anyone got any ideas how to open it??

  • I've turned it off
  • Locked it and unlocked with the key button
  • started it on a wash and then turned it off

What am I missing? DD15 has a non-uniform day tomorrow and then sleepover and she put her clothes into the wash for these events 🙈

Push the door as if your shutting it.
Then try the handle.

Tried that too and didn't work. Grrrr

FFS one of these brilliant ideas must work surely??

Has a child lock come on? I have a Bosch machine and called up John Lewis telling them my new machine was broken after trying everything to open it and that they needed to send a replacement. Turned out I had somehow activated a child lock function 😳 No idea how I did or how to do it again. Anyway, they talked me through how to unlock. Could check your manual to see if it has that function?

I was going to post the same, I have a Bosch and did exactly the same, didnt get as far as phoning anyone, I think Google sorted it out for me

Don't do what I did and pay £80 for someone to unscrew the filter and flood the kitchen floor. I could have done that myself for free FFS. I assumed for £80 he would have some "secret power" to drain the machine and unlock the door. Nope.

Old towels are your friend, OP.
Colour catchers and toddler socks are not.

If it still will not open try unplugging it for 15 minutes it will cause a reset and when you plug it back in it should open.

Thinkingblonde · 07/07/2022 22:34

Have you inadvertently set the delay function…clutching at straws.

Hushmental · 07/07/2022 22:35

Happened today with mine. Try the spin and drain cycle and once it’s done , try and open it . This is what worked with mine.

What's the make and model?

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 07/07/2022 23:37

Apparently you can release the catch on the lock by removing the top panel of the washing machine and locating the catch that way instead. Just make sure it's unplugged first. You may need to pull the drum out of the way so wear something to protect your hands.

Did anything work, op?

Sadly not Sad

Spin cycle and a good thump but it's not budging

Unfortunately it's a nightmare to get out as part of the worktop and tumble drier have to come out.

Sadly I shall have to ask ExH for his assistance - he'll happily do it but would have been nice if I could have fixed it on my own! He's an engineer and can fix most things so fingers crossed.

Thankyou for all your helpful suggestions 👍

UPDATE - ExH came round and forced it off with the string trick. Latch broke but a new door handle kit is £24 so not too bad!

Thanks for everyone's input!

Prob a bit late for you but may help someone else. I had this and it resolved when I cleared the main filter out. I hadn't realised washing machines had them too. I thought it was just tumble dryers 🙄

It basically just reached its limit and refused to open up til I unclogged it.

Glad you're sorted now though OP
