How much is a wedding cake?

Getting married next year and have started looking at wedding cakes.

We plucked a random figure out of the air of £400 for our provisional budget.

I have fallen in love with a cake maker and her prices start at £575.

I am trying to convince my DP that this is reasonable and actually our guesstimate was way under. He wants to keep looking and find something closer to budget.

So what do wedding cakes cost roughly in your area? This is 3 or 4 tiers.

My wedding cake was £400 nearly 13 years ago so I do think think your original estimate is off. However, I’ve been to plenty of weddings where the B&G have had a much cheaper cake or cupcakes and all have been nice. We only spent so much because it was a wedding present from a family member - they gave us £400 specifically for the cake so that’s what we spent.

I know people who've ordered them from Mark's and Spencer and Waitrose they've all been fine I wouldn't waste money

Mine was 395 19 years ago. Traditional 3 tiered cake. Two layers fruit and one sponge

We had several dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts for our wedding cake... A friend picked them up from the shop in the morning and piled high on stands they looked, and tasted, great! I can't remember the cost but was under £100 but several of the children present still mention it now 😆

£200 but a friend made it. 2 tier simple design.

For similar we were quoted 450.

Thats sponge, not even fruit.

I get married next year and I admit that I love cake 😂 I want a tasty cake that looks good but at the same time I don't want to spend too much on it. I draw the line at oh suggestion of a Costco sheet cake though their sticky toffee drizzle loaf cake could be a contender 😂

LoudingVoice · 01/07/2022 09:27

I’m honestly baffled that so many people assume you ‘have’ to have a cake, is it just me who never saw the point? 😂

TunaSalad · 01/07/2022 09:41

I am well known for my love of cake, it's one of my favourite things so a tasty cake is a priority to me.

We have booked a consultation with expensive cake lady and we have also found a much cheaper cake lady and booked a consultation with her too so we are keeping our options open.

In other news though - I bought my dress yesterday from a sample sale and it was 10% of the amount we had budgeted for so more cake money!

Amazing OP

Many people have told you that you should buy a cheap cake but just do whatever is right for you.

It's good that you're having two consultations with different people. We had two and ended up going with the most expensive. The slightly cheaper one brought frozen leftover slices of cake to the consultation Hmm whereas the more expensive one held the consultation in her business kitchen at home where she had made cupcakes that morning for us to try in multiple flavours. The service and quality of the product was absolutely second to none which is why we were prepared to spend more.

I'm sure no one cares but we had three tiers of white choc & raspberry, lemon, and ginger with rhubarb compote 🤤 I still think about it!
